In 1924, the US military listened for Martian signals. But I have no doubt they’re still up there, biding their time.

That’s bizarre. They had to be able to see the surface pretty well in the 20s. Did they think a civilization capable of sending a signal wouldn’t show any signs of life on their planet’s surface?
