CBO: Fake GOP Health Care “Bill” Is Useless

Turns out Alan Grayson was completely right.

I am totally shocked.

The Congressional Budget Office said on Wednesday that an alternative health care bill put forward by House Republicans would have little impact in extending health benefits to the roughly 30 million uninsured Americans, but would reduce average insurance premium costs for people who have coverage.

The Republican bill, which has no chance of passage, would extend insurance coverage to about 3 million people by 2019, and would leave about 52 million people uninsured, the budget office said, meaning the proportion of non-elderly Americans with coverage would remain about the same as now, at roughly 83 percent.

The budget office has said that the Democrats’ health care proposal would extend coverage to 36 million people, meaning that 96 percent of legal residents would have health benefits. The Democrats’ bill would cost $1.1 trillion, with the costs more than covered by revenues from new taxes or cuts in government spending, particularly on Medicare.

The Republican party had years to improve the health care of Americans, they didn’t do a damn thing. If the Democratic party has any interest in not being complicit in the deaths and discomfort of millions of Americans, they’ll do the right thing and pass this law.

  1. Jaim says:

The wing-nuts have an irrational hate of Grayson, which means he’s doing everything right.

  2. Dennis says:

“Is this news to you that this guy’s one fry short of a Happy Meal?” asked Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.)
    —-

“There’s no call for that language. No call for it. That’s absurd. If he was standing here now, I’d say that to him,” said Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.)
    ——–

House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer defended Robertson,[who Grayson called a whore] whom he said he knows.

“I think it’s inappropriate and unfair,” the Maryland Democrat said. He decried the “heated rhetoric” that he said interferes with the ability solve problems.
    —–

Democrat Dina Titus of Nevada called Grayson’s remarks “a bit extreme and rather sexist.”
    ———-

‘A bit extreme and sexist’…..from a Democratic colleague. Of coure Jaim thinks he must be doing everything right.

    • Chris K. says:

Shorter Dennis: Please, Please, PLEASE look over there.

Don’t focus on the GOP’s crapstastic plans for Healthcare. Let’s look at some quotes instead!

  3. Jaim says:

    Thanks for proving my point.

    • Wilbur says:

Thanks also, Dennis, for proving that most Democrats have higher standards of civility than you do.

      • Dennis says:

Oh, but I agree with those Democrats, Wilbur. I’ve said as much or more about Grayson on here. I’m pro-civility.

That’s not the message on here about Grayson, though- he’s always being praised for his non-civility by the gang here; so I’m not sure I understand your point.

        • Marco says:

Three million by 2019? Wow, slow down there GOP. Where’s the fire?

Take it on the chin, teabaggers. Your pals failed again.

        • Rheinhard says:

Well of course you agree with criticisms of Grayson; he’s on the other political side. (In other news, water still wet)

But if you expect to be taken remotely seriously in your noble concern for “civility” I’d like to see your criticisms of other equally, if not more, histrionic members of Congress (I’m not even going to bother about radio talkers, since being loud and crazy is their job) on your own side. Where are your denunciations of Michelle “Death Panels! See the Whites of their eyes!” Bachmann, Virginia “Health Reform is more dangerous than any terrorist!” Foxx, Joe “You Lie!” Wison, etc. etc. etc.?

Sure it would be very nice if all of our policy discussions were conducted in measured tones. But that’s not the world we live in, and if these wingnut congresscritters can not only get away with outbursts such as I’ve mentioned but get nice little accolades and FOX News sinecures for doing so, then insisting that only Alan Grayson is beyond the pale and needs to shut up is basically demanding one side’s unilateral disarmament (a concept most wingnuts I’ve met generally seem to be against)…

  4. Dennis says:

Yes, excellent proclamation. That makes you a far-left wingnut. The obsession with even moderately left-wing loons for Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity must make them doing all kinds of ‘doing everything right’, Jaim.

“One fry short of a happy meal”, he-he. From Anthony Weiner, one of the most prominent Dems on the healthcare front. Pretty must shoots down the ‘doing everything right’ rah-rah cheering from the South Korean ambassador of the loony left in America.

  5. Jaim says:

And yet, you spend more time on liberal blogs than I do. Interesting.

  6. Bruce Henry says:

Dennis is obsessed with the word “obsession.”

It’s unseemly to accuse others of “obsession,” Dennis, when you yourself spend hours every day trolling Oliver’s blog. I can’t imagine how you get anything done at the job you say you have when you post here roughly every 10 minutes around the clock. Does your boss know how you spend your time? I remember even reading a comment by you in which you said you were posting on like 4 blogs in the same day…although, to be fair, I think that was on a weekend.

Do you really think you’re changing anyone’s mind here, sir? Or are you yourself “obsessed” with Oliver and his commenters?

  7. Dennis says:

You should see my Inbox, Bruce.

  8. Swamptroll says:

Is it filled with shipping confirmation emails for boxes of Calvin Klein’s Obsession?

  9. SaveFarris says:

The Republican bill extends coverage to 3 million and lowers rates for 253 million.

The Democrat bill extends coverage to 36 million and lowers rates for 0.

Yeah, I know which one I’d support.

    • I'm a Hick says:

As wackadoo as it sounds, why don’t they work together and try to do both?

    • Yeah, I know which one I’d support.

No, can you actually spell it out for us, please? Are you saying you’d support the bill that won’t raise your costs at all but give more Americans coverage, or you want a small decrease in your own premium while a few millions elderly and poor go uninsured? If you’re going to toss some weird bravado out about this you might as well be specific. At least man up and be honest about it.

      • SaveFarris says:

Are you saying you’d support the bill that won’t raise your costs at all but give more Americans coverage.

That bill doesn’t exist. The one Democratics are pushing would raise everyone’s costs, as existing plans would now be required to cover more procedures (while not being able to deny coverage based upon pre-existing conditions.) If you think prices will remain static after those new regulations are enacted, I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

If you lower EVERYONE’S prices, the folks who couldn’t afford it before will be able to afford it now. Win-win, my friend.

        • Enlightened Liberal says:

So you are for a bill that claims to lower everyone’s prices by…allowing the insurance companies to cover less?. Yes, run on that next election.

        • If you lower EVERYONE’S prices,

Again, nice way of ducking the whole issue of people not having any prices because they can’t get insurance. Eff em, you’ve got yours, right?

The Democrats’ bill is better, provides more coverage, and projects a higher deficit reduction. And you’re response is to snark “nyah nyah I don’t believe it.” Seriously, please keep running on this.

    • Enlightened Liberal says:

Yea, the one Rush Limbaugh tells you to support.

    • Marco says:

Yes, it lowers the rate to 0 except when it doesn’t.

  10. Repack Rider says:

Dennis is OBSESSED with O-Dub! He can’t help himself…he can’t keep from posting.

    In 3, 2…

  11. jr says:

even Fox whore Mort Kondracke thinks the GOP bill is a joke

  12. Jaim says:

Dennis doesn’t have a job. At least not one he wants to share with us.

    • Jaim says:

My suspicion is that he has an E-TRADE account, and he loses money on it every day and his wife supports him with a government job.

I can’t imagine any sane employer would give him a paycheck.

      • Indeed says:

I think “Dennis” is a gift to Teh Reality Based from George Soros. Occam’s Razor. I mean, come on, nobody, but nobody in real life could possibly be as cartoonish as Dennis (“That’s exactly why I don’t give an inch here on anything”!) is here. Nobody.

        Thanks Uncle George!

      • Dennis says:

Jaim, I’ve actually told you specifically before, and a couple other guys here, too. I don’t see the need to repeat it. Why does it bug you so much?

I’ve told you I’ve been very fortunate. And earlier in my career when it got tough and I didn’t like the surroundings or the politics in my job, it only made me dig in and work that much harder. I didn’t bail. I didn’t break down and cry. I didn’t abandon anything. I’m not a GenX-er like you, though, either.

        • Indeed says:

Childish, Passive-aggressive,Ironically-challenged Troll posts every few minutes, yet doesn’t “see the need to repeat it.”

        • Indeed says:

Self-absorbed Tuff Guy Troll got going when the going got tuff, as he’ll be sure to tell you. Early and often.

  13. Jaim says:

Dennis, like I said, having an E-trade account is not a job. It’s a hobby.

  14. Dennis says:

Are you looking to send me a resume or something, Jaim?

  15. Jaim says:

Eating Cheetohs and trolling liberal blogs and making threats of violence then shitting your pants when you get called on them isn’t a career any sane person would be interested in. But for wing-nuts, it’s like being president (since you guys can’t actually win the real White House).

  16. gumby says:

Dennis, you are OBSESSED with this blog. You post 10 times more than anyone. Look at yourself man. THIS IS YOUR LIFE.

I lurk a lot, but don’t post that much. Know why? I have a LIFE. Job, kids, spouse, pets, in laws, chores, other hobbies, Archie comics to read on the can, toe lint to clean. Dennis, this seems to be the central pillar in your life right now. If you were observing that in someone else, wouldn’t you think that more than a little sad?

And what’s with the dick measuring contest on providing a link? If it’s not that hard, why not do it? I do not understand. You refuse to answer questions asked of you, you refuse to support your statements with links. What is the problem? You think it weak to answer people? How insecure are you?

    • Dennis says:

      gumby,

If it had been you that had asked me for where I had gotten the information, I’d gladly supply the link. I post as many links as anybody here, so no, I’m not afraid to back up anything. fafaroo does it for sport and to be cute. I told him where he could find the info and he could go look it up., and that I don’t dance for him. I told Indeed the same thing when he started doing the same thing. Fafaroo’s just playing games and your lurking here you ought to be aware of that. And just as Parthy relates, I’m at home monitoring markets and at work all day doing the same and it’s easy to be having a multitude of screens up at any time. I have to be aware of what’s going on to talk to customers, but I have busy times and slow times. It takes about a minute to make a post, usually less. I don’t care how much anyone posts here; that’s not what makes them obsessed. What makes fafaroo obsessed is that about 80-90% of his posts are directed at me, and they are all of the nitpicking variety. Silly stuff, stuff no one in their right mind would care about, but he thinks other people do because he’s got a loyal group of parasites that faithfully follow him when decides to do shit like obsess over the word ‘if’ and then they chime in too. Dude’s nuts.

      • Indeed says:

I’m not afraid to back up anything.

Good to know. What are the “several tenets of the Laffer Curve” you mentioned some time ago?

      • fafaroo says:

… and that I don’t dance for him.

Wow. You’re wrapped up pretty tight, man.

      • gumby says:

It takes a minute to reply?

That was a 250 word stream of consciousness rant there. Either you’re sniffing dexatrim, or that’s at least 10 minutes. Multiply by how many posts a day? Even if you have multiple screens up, you are only focused on one. Full fucking time. It’s just WEIRD, dude. You really are doing nothing else other than this, are you.

  17. Parthenon says:

If I have occasion to be sitting on my ass at the computer all day for a particular task (and it happens), my comment postings could appear as if I’ve been doing nothing but reading blogs all day. It’s conceivable. So everybody lightening up on the ‘you’re obsessed NO YOU’RE OBSESSED’ stuff might not be such a bad idea.

  18. Jaim says:

We’re all guilty of spending too much time on the internets, but the reason Dennis is a constant source of amusement is that he spends hours upon hours reading a site that he constantly bitches and whines about. He really thinks in his heart of hearts that he’s some sort of internet Freedom Fighter. Typical example of the 101st Fightin’ Keyboarders.

In real life these are the guys who think driving an SUV makes up for a small penis. And he probably thinks Dane Cook is like totally the funniest dude ever.

    • Indeed says:

The utter inability to admit a mistake in the face of overwhelming, indisputable, laughably obvious evidence is the real funny with Dennis, however.

My god you’re dumb. Do you even know what a troll is? I mean, you are one, but you don’t actually understand the meaning of the term, do you?

A person who posts comments on a blog run by someone with whom they generally agree is not a troll.

To break it down all nice and simple like, if I spent twelve hours a day monitoring a conservative site I’d be as pathetic as you. And nobody is as pathetic as you.

              • Dennis says:

Jaim, sweetheart, when I break it down in simple terms how pathetic you are and the reasons why and how you couldn’t hack it in the real world, you pretty much end up breaking down and spilling the beans on your whole life story.

Then people come on here and tell me to stop being so mean to you.

                • Jaim says:

Says the day-trader who spends more time trolling a liberal site than he does. . . . Come to think of it, what do you spend more time on that trolling this site and making threats of violence that you get called on? Hmm?

Full-time employment Dennis. Try it some time.

Will there be a response to this from Den? No.

  19. Dennis says:

None of those, Jaim. I get tremendous laughs here and I truly believe that laughing is important and it helps me in what I do, where it’s always good to be upbeat. Nothing more, nothing less; no axe to grind here and no objective other than personal satisfaction. I love Honda Accords and Toyota RAVs and I swear by both manufacturers; though at times I wish I had an old beat-up pick-up truck for hauling brush every spring and summer instead of getting ripped off contracting it out. And Dane Cook makes me ill.

  20. Felix Helix says:

Back in the day, when I was in collitch and the internets were still mostly text-based, a troll was what we called a person who camped on a discussion thread and wrote “ur teh suk” over and over again. We didn’t call someone a troll because we disagreed with them, or even because we considered their opinions meritless. The epithet “troll” was reserved for juvenile bottom-feeding morons who truly had nothing of substance to say, whose only goal was to annoy those of us who were trying to have an actual conversation.

Seems to me the term is thrown around way too freely these days, but that’s probably just because I’m crotchety. I lurk here much more frequently than is good for me, and post infrequently because unless I’ve got something relevant to say that hasn’t been said yet, saying nothing seems like basic good manners. For that reason, I’m usually silent when I agree with Oliver — which is often. I rarely agree with Dennis, SaveFarris, Frank or Jay Tea (where are you, Jay?) but I don’t begrudge them their points of view. In fact, I welcome their presence here. Divergent perspectives make debate possible. Without conservative commenters, this would just be an echo chamber. Boring. It’s a measure of the site’s relevance that conservatives bother to show up.

Just as boring as an echo chamber, though, is the tit-for-tat baloney that flares up whenever someone gets personal and someone else takes the bait. It’s just so easy, and so pointless, and it’s got nothing to do with politics. If you think somebody is pathetic, try exerting a modicum of restraint and keep it to yourself! Attack the argument, not the person who makes it. It’s really not that hard.

And if it is too hard, guess what? You might be a troll.

    • Jaim says:

Posting the daily talking points from RedState is not the same as having a valid opinion or argument.

And while I understand that “troll” has a complex and rich linguistic history, I’m surprised you have a hard time spotting serial thread-shitters (these types are often but not always the same thing, I admit).
