Legacy

But according to a report issued last week by the State Department’s inspector general, the complex is a monument to shoddy work and incompetent oversight. Walls and walkways are cracking, sewage gas flows back into residences, wiring is substandard, fire protection systems are faulty and other safety provisions are not up to contract specifications.

The report says that construction “was significantly deficient in multiple areas” and may not meet safety codes. It called on the State Department to seek $132 million in damages from the main construction company, First Kuwaiti General Trading and Contracting, which received $470 million for work on the embassy.

My bet is look over there in 3 posts.

  2. jr says:

This is “limited government” to the Beckies

  3. cj says:

Wait so Bush gave Iraqis stimulus money to build buildings for us in Iraq but no one screamed and yelled about it, but when President Obama passed his stimulus bill for money to be spend here in the States everyone(mostly right wingers) went bat crazy with venom coming out of the months and shaking at the legs with craziness?

I say waste the money here instead of over there.

  4. cj says:

Also $700 million dollars on one embassy! Is it made out of Saddam Hussein gold?

  5. SaveFarris says:

cj, the difference between “million” and “billion” is more than just a letter. It’s literally 1000X larger.

  6. timmy says:

“But my embassy has a moat full of sharks armed with lasers” Dr. Cheney says touching his pinky to his mouth…

  7. cj says:

Yes $700 million to build one thing (in another country)is definitely different than spending billions to build many things in our own country.

But yet it was the latter that outrage people more. Just a funny thought.

  8. The Federal Government has spent more than $700,000,000 since you woke up this morning.

  9. cj says:

Also giving billions in education, unemployment benefits, Medicaid, middle-class tax cuts, renewable energy, etc to and for our own citizens but of course outrage over that is understandable. *roll eyes*

  10. cj says:

Just think about what was spent everyday over the last 8 years.

  11. 2ndAmndmnt says:

Just think about what was spent everyday over the last 9 months

    Deficit spending under BOOOSH BADDDD!!

    Deficit spending under Obambi…kinda AWESOME!!

  12. SaveFarris says:

It wasn’t just “billions”. It was billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions
and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and billions and bill.

That’s 393.5 “billions” (or $787 billion) for those too lazy to count. Does bring a sense of perspective to how piddling the amount is that you’re bitching about?

PS: By spending that $700 million, think of all the jobs Bush created or saved…

  13. cj says:

Yea deficit spending on other countries and wars is the same as deficit spending on approving our lives( in health care, energy, education, unemployment benefits, our infrastructure, etc).

I do have a problem with the amounts of spending that is going on, but I am willing to let it slide some since WE ARE THE BENEFICIARIES.

  14. cj says:

So spending billions on US is bad, but spend millions on a build is okay?

Also this is only one thing I am picking a bone about. Lets not forget about millions and billions, and trillions lost under Bush, okay.

  15. SaveFarris says:

We definitely need to approve our education.

(Sorry, but you walked right into it.)

Spending on National Defense doesn’t benefit the country?

  16. SaveFarris says:

Hey, that’s … … … still $400 million less than Obama lost in his first 9 months in office.

    E for effort though.

  17. cj says:

How is losing $1 trillion dollars considered spending?

  18. cj says:

Ah yes that evil Obama spent huge amounts of money here on us. Why couldn’t he be like the other President and just lose it or spend it all on another country.

You get an F as in FAIL.

  19. Jaim says:

We should be spending billions on American infrastructure, because it’s falling apart and it creates jobs for American builders and contractors. We shouldn’t spend another penny on trying to prop up an Iraqi regime led by pro-Iranian Shias that will be hostile to us.

Remember when you cons attacked Clinton for “nation building”? No? I sure do.

  20. Jaim says:

“Spending on National Defense doesn’t benefit the country?”

It does, but it’s not as cost-effective as spending on infrastructure (roads, bridges, schools, hospitals).

  21. Jody says:

Spending on national defense benefits the country.

Spending it on boondoggles based on falsehoods most assuredly does NOT help the country.

Not that they’ll ever understand the difference.

  22. Matt Osborne says:

Jody, you need a lesson in ECON 101.

    GDP = (G) + (I) + (E) + (C)

The economy is made of four things: government spending, investment spending, exports, and consumer spending.

Consumer spending has taken an enormous hit and shows no signs of recovering. We haven’t had an export surplus since the 70s. And investment spending is *just* starting to come back.

The only thing left to pick up the slack in GDP is government spending. It can’t solve the problem, but it can certainly make things less awful. Haven’t you heard of the New Deal?

  23. Carlos says:

Wait a second – didn’t Dubya tell us that all that shit was going to be paid for using Iraqi oil? WTF happened to that “selling point” to the war? Just another lie.

  24. EOM says:

So the only important thing is Who spent the money, not what it was spent on. This certainly should reduce oversight and paperwork costs.
Does this mean if the money just disappears, nobody is at fault? Time to study Magic.

  25. ‘Spending on National Defense doesn’t benefit the country?’

Exactly what benefits from the Bush administration defense spending can you point to?
