Thankfully latinos are not being fooled about CNN’s relationship with Lou Dobbs:
The hypocrisy, critics say, lies in CNN’s decision to woo Hispanic viewers with a prime-time documentary while still giving Mr. Dobbs a nightly forum. Roberto Lovato, a founding member of Presente.org, a Latino advocacy group, said in a statement, “We won’t allow the network to court us as viewers while, at the same time, they allow Dobbs to spread lies and misinformation about us each night.”
Separately, Mr. Dobbs is also the target of a “Drop Dobbs” campaign by the progressive groups NDN, Media Matters for America, and others. That effort started after Mr. Dobbs repeatedly raised questions about President Obama’s birth certificate.
There is no indication that the campaigns are affecting CNN’s revenue, but they are highlighting Mr. Dobbs’s status as an outlier at the channel, which has sought to position itself as a middle ground of sorts in the fractious cable news arena. Mr. Dobbs is known to be exploring an exit from CNN, and he is viewed as a potential hire for the Fox Business Network, an upstart channel owned by the News Corporation.
As I’ve said before, Lou Dobbs already has a Fox News show… it just happens to be on CNN.
Don Lemon would do a good job in Lou’s timeslot
A reanimated corpse would do good in Lou’s timeslot.
Speaking of which, did the wingnuts get Saint Ronnie pieced back together yet? I hear jelly beans work in a pinch if you don’t have glue handy.
It’s unbelievable to me that CNN is still keeping this bigot on the air. They must feel very proud.
I dreamed Lou Dobbs and Soledad O’Brien were a couple on “Dancing with the Stars.” I woke up in a sweat.
As I’ve said before, Lou Dobbs already has a Fox News show…it just happens to be on CNN
Exactly. Those who come on here and argue that cnn and msnbc are as biased to the left as Fox is to the right need to answer the question: what prominent spokesman for the left does Fox have comparable to Lou Dobbs on the right?
CNN is a middle ground? Between Fox and what?
Oh, right, Al-Jazeera. But really and without sarcasm, isn’t that unfair to Al-Jazeera?
CNN is a middle ground? Between Fox and what?
Reality.
It also looks like Mr. Dobbs is going over to Fox. (Rumored)??????
Lou Dobbs Bashes His Potential Future Fox Business Colleague John Stossel
Who is Lou Dobbs mad at now? No, not Keith Olbermann or anyone on MSNBC, or Pres. Obama or anyone in the White House. How about John Stossel? You know, the newly hired analyst at Fox Business Network (the same outfit Dobbs is rumored to be headed to!)
Get Dobbs off the air already. Ugh.
I’m not a fan of Lou Dobbs, but when has he made anti-Latino remarks?
In the reality-based community, Lou Dobbs’s wife doesn’t exist.
Remember when a key part of the Rove plan for eternal Republican dominance came from Latinos swooning over a president from Texas that spoke some Spanish?
And then he tried to pass mild immigration reform and the fundies/teabaggers/bigots that constitute the GOP lost their freaking minds, cheer-led all the way by Lou Dobbs? And even John McCain got burned by guys like Tom Tancredo and Pat Buchanan wondering how quickly it would be before nobody spoke English in America ever again?
Too funny.
What is important to remember is that cable news networks are not in it to espouse or champion left or right causes. Cable news networks are businesses and are in it to make a profit. Lou Dobbs may or may not be a racist, but basically his main goal on CNN is not journalism – it’s to make a name for himself. You would have to be blind not to see all the potential of appealing to all the people in this country who label themselves as conservatives. So by leaning to the right and taking up their causes Mr. Dobbs is simply increasing his popularity among this group in order to increase his marketability. Lou Dobbs is not the only “journalist” who has done this. Anyone ever here of Geraldo Rivera? How about Juan Williams? Anyone who remembers Juan Williams from the pieces he has done for PBS knows that he is an extremely talented journalist. To see him now hosting the O’Riely Factor, you would think that he is just another right wing, wing nut. Not so. He is just another cable “news” guy now making the big bucks. Bully to him.
In short, people, don’t waste your time rallying against these cable news personalities – the Dobbs, O’Rielly’s, Oberman’s, Williams, Geraldo’s and the rest are just appealing to the crowd in order to make a buck. Better to spend your time educating people to what is really going on and just laugh this stuff off. People tend to start out with a certain view point then look for evidence to support it rather than starting with an open mind. The only thing that we need to fear is when uneducated people fall for this stuff and take it seriously.
David, the first and last sentences in your last paragraph above kinda contradict each other, unless I’m misreading you.
I think what DavidP is saying, is that there’s a difference between mindless mobs who attack that guy, and mindless mobs who attack you.
I am now convinced that the only time when somebody makes a racist statement for some of you it’s when you perceive that it’s being made against whites. So predictable.
Doesn’t even have to be “against” whites, ‘Fredo. Some of these folks tally a statement up as racist if it even mentions the word.
Did you hear Dobbs going on and on about Geraldo today. Something about Geraldo’s rear-end and gunk like that. You don’t think that Dobbs is basically trying to appeal to the uneducated mind out there? The sad thing is that he is doing it because he judges that the majority of Americans fall into that class of boobs and dim-wits. I wish we could prove him wrong.
Nice work Oliver –
“A gunshot was fired at the New Jersey home of CNN’s Lou Dobbs after a series of threatening phone calls earlier this month, the host told listeners on his nationally syndicated radio show.”
I guess if you can’t get him thrown off the air with your little “Drop Doobs” campaign, you and La Raza will just have him killed eh?
