I can never believe that there are people in the world this stupid. Taking umbrage at teabaggers being called by the word they popularized – teabagging – Scott Johnson Scott Ott at Power Line takes this one step further:
Referring to a sexual practice featured in pornography, Dowd had titled her column “A daisy chain of Cheneys.” (For those who need help picking up Dowd’s sick joke, the Urban Dictionary helpfully defines the term “daisy chain.”)
Yes, daisy chain is a sexual reference, it is totally based on sex. It is all about — WHAAAAA?????
daisy chain
–noun
1. a string of daisies linked together to form a chain.
2. such a chain used as a garland or carried on festive days by a group of women college students.
3. a series of interconnected or related things or events: a daisy chain of legislative delays and stalemates.
4. Slang. a group sexual activity in which the participants serve as active and passive partners to different people simultaneously.
5. Commerce. a series of transactions designed to create the appearance of active trading, as in a particular stock, in order to manipulate the price.
The daisy chain in question here is of course about a series of connected events – like one Cheney popping up after another. But Power Line could not keep its mind out of the gutter!
Are you kidding? Maureen Dowd is famous for her sexual-related double entendres, Oliver. All the way back to the early Clinton years. I doubt if anyone in journalism has giggled more over the teabagging term more than she has.
I think it’s a stretch to assume she wasn’t aware of the double meaning. Good enough for the headline to get past the editor, but no innocence on her part by any means.
Proving once again that conservative media criticism is all about what you think someone is saying rather that what they actually said. I’m no fan of Dowd, in fact I can’t stand her, but Occam’s Razor applies here.
Dowd actually *DIDN’T* say “daisy chain”?
Mmmm-hmmm.
When someone you don’t like posts a harmless picture, you not only are sure you know what they’re thinking, you’re so sure you put quotes around the thoughts of hers that you presumed she was thinking.
Occam’s Razor indeed.

Are you saying that you detect a smirk on Dowd’s face, Dennis?
Good one, Wilbur.
But, yes, I do. I think she was giggling more than Anderson Cooper did when he said “It’s hard to talk when you’re teabagging.”
What do you think?
I’m about Maureen’s age and I’ve maybe heard “daisy chain” once or twice in my life with a sexual connotation and hundreds of times with non-sexual connotations. Wouldn’t be the first thing that popped into my head, and, as you know, I’m pretty snarky.
Given Ott’s smarts and Dennis’s depth, Occam would have to trade up for a meat axe.
Also, Urban Dictionary is not a source anyone should be trusting. All the sex definitions in it sound like they were invented by bored 14-year-old virgins.
A.
Wow. Daisy-chaining my disk drives on my old Apple computer in the 1980s now seems so… dirty.
Good enough for the headline to get past the editor, but no innocence on her part by any means.
Jesus, Dennis. Are you really such an uptight prude? Get over it, already.
No, I love double entendres, fafaroo. I don’t have a problem with her using this one, either.
Gawker is pretty sure it was one, too.
Dennis just likes to argue. It doesn’t matter if he actually believes it. Hey Dennis: The sun rises in the east.
No, I love double entendres, fafaroo.
I could tell from all your whining about “teabagging.”
The ‘whining’ about teabagging, fafaroo, was in idiot Indeed’s pretending to be shocked that a particular someone would use the phrase ‘he expects us to bend over and grab our ankles’. How can you go around acting shocked that a radio guy would say that when the whole leftist/Maoist movement is snickering over the teabagging silliness. You guys play silly games and act shocked about something you pretend is too vulgar for your virgin ears, and then I simply call you out on it. You mistake that for whining.
You do that on purpose, too.
What’s that beeping?
Dennis- You know the difference between “daisy-chaining” and “teabagging” – one literally doesn’t have a non-vulgar connotation- the act of making tea involves steeping a teabag- but guess what its not called
“teabagging”- where as this usage by Dowd was clearly an alliterative play on words.
How can you go around acting shocked that a radio guy would say that when the whole leftist/Maoist movement is snickering over the teabagging silliness.
So you’re saying that Indeed was upset by the sexual connotations of that statement?
Because I thought it was the racism:
It was the racism. Go figure.
WHAT is racist about it, fafaroo? No one has answered Boehlert on that challenge because it’s a stupid question. I don’t agree with RL saying that or phrasing it like that; but he’s saying we’re being told to just stfu and accept that we lost and don’t put up any resistance because if you do you’re a racist. Why is that so hard to understand, given that there’s not a website in existence that adhere’s to that line of thinking more than this one. Just look at all the Jaim’s and Indeed’s nutcases this place attracts. Why does that statement offend you? There’s not a better description of this blog’s philosophy that I can think of, save for the half African American description.
Before I go on, have I made any mistakes?
Before I go on, have I made any mistakes?
Yeah. You said Jaim was upset by it because of the phrases’ sexual connotations.
No, I said Jaim is a nutcase who has called everyone he’s disagreed with who posts here a racist and reminds us everyday that the only reason we disagree with this Maoist administration is because it’s headed by a black man.
Now, again, have I gotten anything wrong?
You get a fucking lot wrong, Dennis. See our last spat about the Limbaugh bullshit.
Not only are you wrong, but you refuse to correct your error. Just like a typical conservative fucktard.
The Earth is 6000 years old, I don’t care what you say! Carbon dating, fossils? LIES! God did it to TEST OUR FAITH. Or Satan did it to lead us away from God. Either way, really.
See also: global warming, evolutionary theory/intelligent design, etc.
Went back and read your reply – it’s more of a non-apology than anything, but whatever. You still don’t acknowledge that you were wrong, but you acknowledge that you might have been. I suppose that will have to do.
reminds us everyday that the only reason we disagree with this Maoist administration
Like Limbaugh’s meltdown today when he mistakenly read a hoax on the air and took it seriously, stuff like this from you makes it clear that you and most conservatives have gone off the deep end and are not to be taken
seriously. America rejected your deviant beliefs. When people voted for “a new kind of politics” by voting for Obama, what they were thinking about is right-wing deviants like yourself who froth about “Maoist administrations” while ranting about their own freakish right-wing beliefs, and they’re all laughing at hearing your freak out about Obama. And it’s all the sweeter when a throwaway line from Maureen Dowd throws you into apoplectic fits while at the same time you slobber over Rush’s “grab our ankles” rhetoric.
Dennis, this stuff from you, Rush, and Powerline shows the conservative movement to be in fuill-on meltdown mode.
Yep, definitely the racism.
Oh and Dennis, have you seen the photo accompanying this post?
Shocking and outrageous, no?
Now, again, have I gotten anything wrong?
Yes, again, Dennis. Because what you wrote was:
Of course, you posted this in this thread. Right up there. So I’m surprised it has be repeated to you so soon. But the obvious subject of this rant is that Indeed was “shocked” by the “vulgar” sexual connotations of the phrase, presented without the part of the sentence that dealt with Obama’s race and compared to the “snickering” over “teabagging.”
So maybe you want to re-write your initial comment about it, Dennis. Because you’re kind of all over the map here.
Oh and Dennis, remind me, who is that you’ve been calling a “hoax swallower” lately? Cuz I think he’s got some good company:
http://mediamatters.org/blog/200910230018
And do we even want to know how the Urban Dictionary defines “hoax swallower”? For shame, Dennis!
As noted elsewhere, some details emerge:
http://washingtonindependent.com/65015/the-obama-thesis-hoax
http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/200910230019
Irony! Who’s the hoax swallower now? Bwahahahahahahaha!
I wonder if Tiger-Beat Dittoheads will continue to defend their idol. I’m guessing they will.
Hey Indeed,
Media Matters reported on Limbaugh talking about that quote earlier in the day and they didn’t mention that it was a hoax.
Funny that. They reported on him talking about it, but not that it was a hoax.
What the hell is going on there, it’s a research firm for Christ sakes.
Not a good week at the MM Coral. Not a good week at all.
I’m not sure Indeed wants to be in the same company as the Maha Rushie, fafaroo, but if you want to go there, fine with me. And since ALL you guys just sat there and watched Indeed self-destruct, I gotta with ‘hoax-swallower enablers’ for the rest of you.
Why didn’t you try to save him, fafaroo?
C’mon, do unto others. How would you like to be drowning and none of your comrades throws you a lifeline?
since ALL you guys just sat there and watched Indeed self-destruct, I gotta with ‘hoax-swallower enablers’ for the rest of you.
There you go again.
Why didn’t you try to save him, fafaroo?
Go with this, Dennis! I sense this is going to be real winner for you. No downsides at all!
and since ALL you guys just sat there and watched Indeed self-destruct
Link-free, per usual.
Who came to give you a lifeline, Indeed? Everyone just let you drown.
Look over there! Where?
Defensive Childish Dittohead Troll bites when cornered.
How can you go around acting shocked that a radio guy would say that when the whole leftist/Maoist movement is snickering over the teabagging silliness.
Let me explain it AGAIN. The term is only half of the joke. The other half is the fact that these people were so clueless and prudish that they used that term and not one of them pointed out that it might possibly be a bad idea.
I wasn’t aware that “daisy chain” had an X-rated alternate definition, but no doubt Ott is more plugged into the alt-lifestyle demi-monde than I am. If I ever visit the Mini Apple, perhaps he’d be kind enough to give me a guided tour of the strip joints, porno shops, swinger clubs, etc. Because he sure seems like an expert.
FYI that’s a clip. Media Matters doesn’t do analysis on clips. Lawd.
Analysis or no, they put up a clip of RL talking about something that even cursory analyis would’re revealed to be a hoax, and they failed to mention it.
Weak.
Oliver,
Scott Ott does not write for Powerline.

Corrected, got my right wing hacks mixed up.
I couldn’t begin to list the daily accusations, slanders, and insults leveled at Mr. Obama and his family. But one smutty double entendre from Dowd and the Powerline cretins go nuts.
Figures, don’t it?
