Media Matters never dug up anything to support her excuse that she was referring to Lee Atwater, who she claimed used to use that particular aphorism of Mao’s. No one has been able to. That would have cleared her somewhat. At least her excuse.

You only have to watch the tape to understand that that was no joke, and high school kids do not understand the joke, they just chuckle. ‘Not often coupled with each other’ would garner a slight chuckle, yes, exactly the small one she got. But then she goes on into the history of Mao and Chiang Kai Shek in 1947 that shows that she was in fact not joking; that Mao is one of her favorite political philosophers. There was nothing ‘joking’ about anything after that coupling of Mao and Mother Theresa.

I don’t consider myself a socialist per se, more of a “social democrat” in the European mode. Which just goes to show that we have very different definitions of socialism. The modern conservative definition seems to be “anyone to the left of St Ronnie.” I wouldn’t mind having a European-style socialist in the White House, because I think it would bring some much needed change to our national priorities without sacrificing what makes American great.

The reason (as I suspect you well know) that so many of us are upset is not that the right is calling Obama out on being a socialist, but that they are (a) distorting his record on so many issues and (b) equating European-style socialism with Lenin/Maoist one-party rule that will destroy America as we know it. Which is utter bullshit.

I’m pretty well aware of that SQ. Most of the posters here have failry similar sentiments, but for some reason get all hot under the collar when someone refers to Obama has having socialist tendencies. Why not just say ‘Ha, Obama a socialist? We wish he was a socialist”?

When Beck finds out that his boss/station supports Communism, do you think he will cry or do you think he will organize a tea party protest? Do you think when the Foz News viewers find out that their favorite TV station is a communist supporting/Anti-American network, they will form a “grass roots” movement and demand their country back?
