I’m not too hyped about tablet computers, I remember the hype about them from about a decade or so ago and the splat that followed. But if the much rumored Apple tablet had some sort of magical comic book features, that would be like a free marshmallow on top of a chocolate sundae.
The comic book industry is ailing and I bet paper costs are part of that. Existing infrastructure to create digital comics doesn’t really exist. Web comics aren’t portable enough, and the existing portable devices are either too small (iPod, iPhone) or not in color (Kindle) to make a go of it. It’s still a relatively small market but an Appleish device that could deliver super-awesome looking digital comics would be the bees knees.
Bah! These Superwomen look like ordinary suburbanites. If it was up to me, Superwoman would look a lot more like OW’s Moms.
You want Superwoman? I got yer Superwoman right here.
As someone who is entering the thick of the comic book industry, the issue seems less about paper costs and more about a ramshakle distribution structure that bottlenecks all sales of major comics through one distributor and puts the power to choose who gets published into the hands of really just two companies. The tide is turning thanks, not to digital technology or even the web, but thanks to traditional book publishers getting into the game and finding talent that is often overlooked and ignored by DC and marvel. Lastly, even this won’t fix the downward trend of comics until these traditional publishers become more educated on what comics are.
The comic book shop and the “floppies” are dying, but they are slowly being replaced by traditional book sellers in the form of bound “trades” and, more and more, comics printed and bound just like “regular” books.
I do like the Mac Tablet, though. I use a PC tablet to color and edit my comics, so an Apple tablet is an appealing prospect.
Who’s the redhead, and what’s Kara been up to lately, anyway?

If you can get over the fact you’re not holding a comic book, Longbox is truly a great thing.
I get a ton of books to review that are PDFs and the experience is more painful than the time I heard my Granparents having sex.
Longbox is way overdue in my opinion and I think it’s the hook to getting kids back into comics.
The question remains though as to whether older fanboys will dive in.
DA- I’m assuming it’s Fairchild from Gen13 and Abby from Danger Girl in Supergirl outfits, given the art is J. Scott Campbell and those are the main characters in his two most popular comics.
You are correct.
