Now that it's clear that their friends won't be mercilessly tortured or accused for no reason, people feel free to tell the authorities what they know and what they heard. Even enemies don't want people to undergo what happened to people at Gitmo, so a lot of people probably held their peace if they heard something. A secret of a lot of fanatic groups is that there are many people who get disillusioned with the whole thing and defect. A person gets caught up with a cause and begins to recoil at the violence or simply the rigid radicalism.
