Funny how we arrest these guys and the Obama administration does so without a huge dog and pony show about how you should wet your pants.
Tarek Mehanna, 27, of Sudbury, a small town west of Boston, allegedly conspired from 2001 to May 2008 with Ahmad Abousamra and others to support and carry out attacks abroad, including on U.S. and allied soldiers in Iraq, the Justice Department announced.
An FBI agent alleges in a complaint and a search warrant affidavit that Mehanna, Abousamra and an associate traveled to the Middle East in February 2004 seeking training at a terrorist camp in Yemen, and that Abousamra made two similar trips to Pakistan in 2002. The men were unsuccessful, however, the agent said, and the associate became a government informant.
Detective work isn’t sexy to cons like bombing Arabs
Also, haven’t you noticed that suddenly we are making more arrests? Now that it’s clear that their friends won’t be mercilessly tortured or accused for no reason, people feel free to tell the authorities what they know and what they heard. Even enemies don’t want people to undergo what happened to people at Gitmo, so a lot of people probably held their peace if they heard something.
A secret of a lot of fanatic groups is that there are many people who get disillusioned with the whole thing and defect. A person gets caught up with a cause and begins to recoil at the violence or simply the rigid radicalism. However they have made friends of people who are temporarily caught up in the madness and hope for their redemption.
No 9/11’s under Obama’s watch. By wingnut standards and those of the McCain campaign, this makes him a complete and absolute success.
Personally, I’ll wait until 2016 to cast judgement. But so far Obama is doing an excellent job.
