IF that was your argument, why didn’t you state that instead of your non-sequitors? Mao’s writings and philosophy were infinitely more intertwined with Communism than Plato’s were with homosexuality. Your comparison is not only weak, it’s absurd.

She did more than admit she finds merit in Mao’s writings; she named him one of her two most favorite political philosophers, one she turns to most often.

Your countering method makes no sense at all and is the current favorite among the Media Matters/ nutroots nation trying to defend her Kinsleyan gaffe, to make ridiculous analogies of any person quoted and the negative side of their history, and listing other prominent politicians who have quoted Mao. Neither of them address the fact that she praised him as one of her favorite philosophers and that she felt compelled to praise him in front of a bunch of high school students.

Then when confronted, she blames Lee Atwater and says the irony is lost any anyone who couldn’t see the connection to Lee Atwater. Only no one has any record of Lee Atwater referring to that quote of Mao she thought was so wonderful.
