Dana Perino: Still Useless

Dana Perino is as useless as a Fox News pundit as she was as the White House press secretary. She claims its the work of dictators to critique the press, but Dana apparently forgot that the red light means the camera was on when she was attacking the press as Bush’s press secretary.

  1. There is a reason she got all those nicknames(Dana Peroxide, Pig Missile, … ).

  2. Dennis says:

Anita Dunn, Rahm Emannuel, David Axelrod, Barack Obama, Robert Gibbs….every one saying Fox is not a legtimate news organization in apparent all out frontal assault, appearing on all the major networks and cable services with the same message about Fox.

Pretty much the exact same thing as Dana Perino responding to a specific question about how NBC clipped a quote of Bush’s in a press gaggle.

  3. mambochicken23 says:

And every one of them are correct to do so.

And when she adds at the end, “Were just curious to find out what they believe, and the same goes with the economy”?

Bush never gave a single interview to the New York Times during his eight years a president. As per NYT’s Sheryl Gay Stolberg:

The New York Times, for instance, has had a standing request to interview President Bush since well before I came on this beat in May 2006. So far, no interview — and the reason why is hardly a secret.

White House officials are quite open about the fact that we have not gotten an interview because they don’t like our coverage. I get e-mails to that effect from them all the time. But the request still stands, and we are hoping for an interview before Mr. Bush leaves office.

    He never gave them one.

  5. Dennis says:

How many interviews has Obama given the Wall Street Journal, fafaroo? Or Fox News?

Obama couldn’t have given a bigger gift to Fox News if they actually wanted to, but tell me when, since the New York Times is an excellent example albeit further to the left than Fox is to the right, Bush and his advisors went full out assault on that newspaper.

  6. fafaroo says:

…but tell me when, since the New York Times is an excellent example albeit further to the left than Fox is to the right, Bush and his advisors went full out assault on that newspaper.

The New York Times is “further to the left than Fox is to right”? Where do you get that from? Can you support that claim with proof from the actual news sections?

You clearly have no problem with a presidential administration selecting their news venues based on their perceived ideological biases.

What you seem to have a problem with is that administration actually voicing their opinions about a certain news venue in public, as opposed to behind the scenes or in one off incidents before the press.

Why is that? What’s the difference?

  7. albeit further to the left than Fox is to the right
Especially when they carried Bush admin propaganda on A1 to sell the Iraq War.

  8. william says:

“Addressing the nation on his weekly television show on Sunday, the Venezuelan president laid out plans for his next crusade, ordering his governors and mayors to draw up a “map of the media war” to determine which media are “in the hands of the oligarchy.”

Chavez said that “if it weren’t for the attack, the lies, manipulation and the exaggeration” of the private media networks, the Venezuelan government would have the support of at least 80 percent of the population. Recent polls have put Chavez’s popularity at a little over 50 percent. [...]

Chavez frequently criticizes opposition-aligned television stations and newspapers, at times holding up copies of the papers during public addresses to ridicule articles that criticize him.”

    Sounds familiar.

  9. Dennis says:

They also leaked a lot of memos that hurt Americans, too, Oliver.

It’s tit for tat, but the point is, Bush didn’t go all-in trying to delegitimize them, did he? Announced to the world through his Maoist Communications Director and then followed up with his chief of staff and advisor on the Sunday news shows and then his press secretary defending it as ‘only their opinion’ that the New York Times isn’t a real news organization and put the focus singly on them to be demonized.

C’mon. I can’t believe you’re defending this even though you hate Fox so much you couldn’t formulate an objective opinion if someone paid you to try; but this will have far-reaching consequences that you’ll either have to eat your words or look silly for objecting to later on down the road when a Republican administration decides to test the waters like Obama is doing now.

    • They also leaked a lot of memos that hurt Americans, too,
Um, bullshit. Those memos revealed crimes and un-American behavior committed in our name. The biggest mistake the NY Times made was taking too long to release them.

You’re just upset that a Dem administration is freezing out an outlet. And they’re doing so with far less contempt for the profession of journalism than the Bushies did. Of course it helps because Fox doesn’t practice journalism.

  10. Dennis says:

Fox couldn’t buy better advertising. In an off election year their viewership is growing by leaps and bounds and the effects are showing in two states that Obama won easily for the elections in two weeks, imagine what continued growth by Fox viewership couple with increased unemployment and it has the making of disaster for next year’s congressional elections. If they were going to experiment with trying to cut them off or change their behavior- what they’re really trying to do is change other news firms’ behavior really, this is the time to do it. But judging by how foolish and small Gibbs looked yesterday, it’s probably something they’re going to back away from very soon.

And really, why the bug push against Fox with two wars, one heading toward disaster, huge problems with Iran, and the health care bill legislation going on?

Like Gibbs yesterday, it just makes Obama look small.

  11. jr says:

No Democrat should go on Stormfront TV aka Fox

  12. mambochicken23 says:

And really, why the bug push against Fox with two wars, one heading toward disaster, huge problems with Iran, and the health care bill legislation going on?

You’re right, Dennis. It’s really difficult to deal with two wars, Iran, and health care simultaneously. But THEN, to also throw out a few pieces of commentary about the Fox News network… well, that’s just too much! Clearly, if Obama says mean things about Fox News, then he is not spending enough time orchestrating these other important matters. Obviously.

Like Gibbs yesterday, it just makes Obama look small.Like Gibbs yesterday, it just makes Obama look small.

I disagree. It’s him being blunt, to the point, and calling a spade a spade. Fox News is a den of partisan hackery and shouldn’t be taken seriously. I’m glad that the administration is talking about it instead of ignoring it.

Also, I find it rich that Fox and conservatives everywhere are talking about “Obama picking a fight with Fox News.” As though Fox hasn’t been picking this fight for a long time. It’s laughable that they claim to be innocent about this.

  13. Dennis says:

Four or five comments from Axelrod and Emmanuel. And a nine minute diatribe from the White House Communications Director who considers Mao one of her two favorite philosophers, on CNN’s Reliable Sources. And Gibbs.

And President Think-skinned for the last year and a half.

And Oliver, and mambo too, 10% unemployment and 17% real unemployment.

mambo, that’s crazy. It’s not the time he’s spending personally, it’s the perception of where his focus is, and he looks like a kid who’s pissed at his rival classmate and he wants to get even instead of paying attention in class.

He needs to toughen up and focus on his real problems. Even Democrats are telling him so, not that he’d listen.

  14. Dennis says:

And President Thin-skinned for the last year and a half.

  15. mambochicken23 says:

And Oliver, and mambo too, 10% unemployment and 17% real unemployment.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. Two wars, healthcare reform, unemployment AND a few comments directed at the bullshit “news” organization orchestrated by Rupert Murdoch and Co.? I mean, the first three items on the list might be doable, but jeeeez, throwing in some comments about the sad state of a media outlet IS JUST TOO MUCH! Please, gimme a fuckin’ break. Presidents have to multitask. It’s the nature of the job; I doubt calling out Fox News as bullshit doesn’t occupy a significant portion of Obama’s psyche or actions.

Take me, for instance. I can spend time here talking about politics with you folks and call Fox News bullshit, while also getting my experiments finished, journal articles published, and my dissertation completed. OMG it’s too much!!!

it’s the perception of where his focus is

I don’t give a fuck what the perception of his focus is. I care where his focus ACTUALLY is. And I do not believe that a substantial portion of it is with Fox News. I think he could spend more time fighting back against the entrenched conservative bullshit that that network promotes.

he looks like a kid who’s pissed at his rival classmate and he wants to get even instead of paying attention in class.

To your eyes and to the dipshits at Fox News, sure. But it’s not like you wouldn’t have complained about anything else the guy did, either – so this really isn’t special in any way.

He needs to toughen up and focus on his real problems.

I’d say that Fox News is a real problem. Compared to Iraq, Afghanistan, healthcare, and unemployment, it might be compared to a mosquito, but it’s still a problem. And that’s not even acknowledging that Fox News is intertwined with ALL the aforementioned big problems.

Stormfront TV. I likes that one. Clever indeed.

  23. ‘In an off election year their viewership is growing by leaps and bounds and the effects are showing in two states that ‘

Who cares? The purpose of a news organization is to report the news, not promote an agenda by telling people what think, primarily by repeating lies and distortions endlessly.

Those viewers who latch on to such obvious and obscene attempts to influence people’s perceptions by blinding them to the truth deserve FOX.

Those who actually give a shit about what’s going on, don’t pay the slightest attention to FOX or the brainwashed saps who thrive on their biased crap.

  24. Dennis says:

Those who actually give a shit about what’s going on, don’t pay the slightest attention to FOX or the brainwashed saps who thrive on their biased crap.

Oh my, jrfunky. I think you people who claim you give a shit about what’s going on pay quite a bit more than the slightest attention to FOX. One could easily make the case that you’re obsessed with what’s going on at FOX. ACORN would not have been exposed for the lying, corrupt organization that it is, and Van Jones would still be talking about his communist views as an Obama czar if not for FOX. Jon Stewart would not have admonished all the media and journalists besides FOX who did not cover this story if you guys didn’t pay the slightest bit of attention.
Obama’s Maoist Communications Director would not attack a news organization like FOX if no one who gives a shit about anything watches them. Nor would all of his top advisors. Nor would he.

As is common with you here, you make very little sense.

  25. The only people who are obsessed about FOX are those like you, who choose to defend their utterly biased and dishonest practices.

Suggesting that someone who dares to admit she finds merit is Mao’s writings is a Communist is like suggesting anyone who finds merit in Plato’s writings is a Homosexual; in other words, it’s idiotic.

  26. Dennis says:

Plato wasn’t responsible for the deaths of 70 million people, jrfunky. Slight difference.

She did more than admit she finds merit in Mao’s writings; she named him one of her two most favorite political philosophers, one she turns to most often.

Your countering method makes no sense at all and is the current favorite among the Media Matters/ nutroots nation trying to defend her Kinsleyan gaffe, to make ridiculous analogies of any person quoted and the negative side of their history, and listing other prominent politicians who have quoted Mao. Neither of them address the fact that she praised him as one of her favorite philosophers and that she felt compelled to praise him in front of a bunch of high school students.

Then when confronted, she blames Lee Atwater and says the irony is lost any anyone who couldn’t see the connection to Lee Atwater. Only no one has any record of Lee Atwater referring to that quote of Mao she thought was so wonderful.

Again, you feel compelled to type on things you know nothing about.

Start reading more and typing less, jrfunky.

  27. ‘Plato wasn’t responsible for the deaths of 70 million people, jrfunky. Slight difference. ‘

And Dunn didn’t say she admired Mao’s politics, she said she admired his philosphy/writings.

    Also a slight difference.

  28. ‘Start reading more and typing less, jrfunky.’

    Look who’s talking.

  29. mambochicken23 says:

Plato wasn’t responsible for the deaths of 70 million people, jrfunky.

    Relevance?

  30. Dennis says:

I’m sure her high school students detected the nuance, jrfunky.

IF that was your argument, why didn’t you state that instead of your non-sequitors? Mao’s writings and philosophy were infinitely more intertwined with Communism than Plato’s were with homosexuality. Your comparison is not only weak, it’s absurd.

  31. Indeed says:

Your comparison is not only weak, it’s absurd.

Ya, way more absurd than “ZOMG, THERE ARE TOTALLY COMMIES IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!!!!”

  32. Dennis says:

Dennis, you should check that thread. I posted a relatively lengthy note.

  34. daniel rotter says:

    More like 45 years.

  35. daniel rotter says:

What exactly is “dictatorial” anyway about a president, ANY president, issuing press-related criticisms, even unfair and/or inaccurate criticisms? I didn’t agree with the Bush 43 Administration’s attacks on NBC, but I didn’t think they were dictator-esque.

  36. She’s on her way out
    Bwahaha.

  37. canadian bacon says:

“Plato wasn’t responsible for the deaths of 70 million people … .”

I bet he read Plato – Philosopher King, which Mao was. Unfortunately he did have alot of people killed. Theory is just never the same when people get involved in it’s execution.

  38. Fafaroo says:

It’s not the time he’s spending personally, it’s the perception of where his focus is,

Dennis don’t pretend you care about anything actually important after rattling off Van Jones, Dunn and Acorn references all week. And who knows what totally random Glenn Beck rant will get you all fired up next week. Or tomorrow.

You have all the focus of a meth addict.

  39. fafaroo says:

Plato wasn’t responsible for the deaths of 70 million people, jrfunky. Slight difference.

And Dennis, don’t tell me you admire Plato! You know he wasn’t really a fan of representative democracy, right?

  40. canadian bacon says:

“Mao’s writings and philosophy were infinitely more intertwined with Communism than Plato’s were with homosexuality.”

Plato was a ’statist” to use Mark Levin’s current favorite work. His Utopian society was definitely not libertarian. The division of labor would be highly organized and controlled top down, for example. No flights of fancy except in the ethereal world of words.

  41. canadian bacon says:

“And Dennis, don’t tell me you admire Plato! You know he wasn’t really a fan of representative democracy, right?”

Representative democracy for some and not others. That’s conservative democracy – it’s fuck you, I gots mine.
