Glenn Beck’s America Is GOP Mainstream

Link

A new focus group study from the Democratic-friendly polling firm of Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research shows that right-wing Republicans have jumped the political rails to inhabit a world of their own. The dominant ‘fact’ for this band of conservatives is that President Barack Obama has a secret plan to impose socialism on the United States and repress the citizenry. Consequently, they believe that Obama’s success is tantamount to the destruction of the country.

And off the cliff they go.

You keep using that word, mainstream. I do not think it means what you think it means.

  2. SaveFarris says:

So far, Obama’s biggest “success” is the stimulus, which has made quite the difference in both unemployment and the deficit.

One telling sign from the study is that the teabagger/birther contingent of the right doesn’t identify a Repub politician that speaks for them, rather it’s media personalities on Fox. And guess who their hero is? Come on, I know you know.

How fucking sad and pathetic is that?

  5. zadura says:

This poll is merely substantiating what is patently clear to the average political participant.
    1) The Republican Party currently has no coordinated leadership and no serious answers to modern questions.
    2) In the absence of coordinated leadership, demagogues and charlatans with simple answers seize the day.

The question for Republicans is whether they want to be defined by Beck and Limbaugh or whether somebody on the Republican side wants to come in and recast their political identity. Frankly, I don’t see how the latter wins out, but it’s just as likely as a Democratic party full of neo-liberal economists and labor leaders. Politics does make for strange bedfellows.

Some say poll, some say study. What I find interesting about this “poll” is they talk about the “results” of this “poll” as if these are facts. Does anyone know how the “poll” was conducted and what questions are asked. Personally, I would welcome the results of this “study” with open arms. The Republican Party is a fraud. Conservatives have no where else to go but to the Republican Party which is NOT controlled by conservatives – it is controled by “politicians”, some of whom claim to be conservatives. Leftists claim Rush and or Glenn Beck is the “leader” of the Republican Party, their not, not even close. Both men have little respect for the Party. It is simply the only vehicle to which they, and other conservatives, can participate in the system. We certainly could NEVER participate with the ultra-left Democratic Party. All that Party wants is a New World Order where America is on it’s knees with Capitalism dead and buried – and you guys know who you are!

Looks like as good a place as any for your weekly Pierce:

Part The First: Considering that the money behind the sainted American Football League fifty years ago belonged to the Hunt family in Dallas, the pre-eminent wingnut sugar daddies of the 1950’s and ’60’s, it’s pretty rich that, even in the beginnings of what may be a collective-bargaining armageddon, both the labor and management sides of the modern NFL have declined to be associated with the former Jeff Christie. The weeping in the wingnuttosphere leaves me strangely unmoved. It does, however, move me to gales of helpless laughter. Dude, I am not. You are not. You are, however, an idiot.

Part The Second: There is no way I am not buying this. “Here comes Santa Claus/Here comes Santa Claus/Right down Highway 61.”

Part The Third: My knowledge of Russian libel law is admittedly limited, but I’m thinking this case is kind of a longshot.

Part The Fourth: Good nominees, I think this is a good list. But, check out the list of judges in the nonfiction category. Apparently, Waldo The Drunk Security Guard at Salon has a brother who works for the National Book Foundation. We’re damned lucky Glenn Beck isn’t a finalist, I guess.

Part The Penultimate: this was the best treatment of the whole Nobel business that I read anywhere. The Pooka McPhellimey and I will brook no debate on this point.

LOL, if only it was a secret plan instead of out there in the open.

If I was them I’d vie for the third party option because once unencumbered by the wimpy GOP, they’d have a really good chance to win in the next election.

  15. kth says:

America has been socialist in their eyes since FDR. There’s simply no objective basis to their sense of crisis, certainly not in anything Obama has done or proposed,

except that the prospect of ever rolling back the monumental achievements of progressive government from FDR to the Great Society is now as distant as it has ever been. Obvious as it has been that the New Deal is never going away (Reagan raising taxes to save Social Security might have been one clue), even they can’t deny that reality now.

What’s beautiful is that the birthers and teabaggers are turning on elected Republicans:

I couldn’t write a better script to a 2009 blockbuster film entitled “The GOP Beclowns Itself and Then Commits Suicide and Eighty Percent of Reality-Based Americans Laugh Their Asses Off.”

  17. Jaim says:

Reagan not only raised taxes, but he was a personal fan of FDR’s.

It’s funny how they love to claim the benevolence of St. Ronnie, but they actually know nothing about him.

  18. Amused Observer says:

    Jaim,
It’s a shame we can’t trade Obama for another the likes of Reagan. I am sure that although your personal political frame of reference begins at the dawn of time with the Clinton years you have absorbed enough truthful history to have a very clear picture of Reagans impact upon the nation. As if, LOL.

  19. Zython says:

you have absorbed enough truthful history to have a very clear picture of Reagans impact upon the nation.

Well, I have a very clear picture of his impact on other nations, such as Iran and Nicaragua.

  20. Jaim says:

You’re a fan of higher taxes AO?

  21. Repack Rider says:

It’s a shame we can’t trade Obama for another the likes of Reagan.

This just in. Reagan was a dolt whose ONLY skill was reading a teleprompter, and he was a tool of the defense industry, looting the treasury in their behalf. His was the most corrupt administration until GWB took the record away, and still holds the record for most convictions of appointees.

I see where your priorities lie.

  22. Amused Observer says:

    LOL Repack,
To paraphrase another criminal in the Whitehouse I suppose that depends on what your definition of corrupt is?

  23. abanterer says:

I might place it at “the administration that negotiated a deal with Iranians, against Congress’s ban, in order to get money for the Contras, despite Congress specifically denying funding for this purpose.” I know, that’s a pretty specific definition of ‘corrupt’, but I think it has a good beat and you can dance to it.

  24. To paraphrase another criminal in the Whitehouse I suppose that depends on what your definition of corrupt is?

Because the people who all went to jail was too vague for you?
