What are they going to do about the Sermon on the Mount?
I’ve always said: a conservative Christian is someone who treats all parts of the Bible as revealed truth except for the dietary laws and the teachings of Jesus.
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the liberal and the tyranny of teh gay. Blessed is he who, in the name of kicking ass and taking names, bootstraps himself through the valley of the darkies. For it is every man for himself, except with the unborn. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy me. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.
But Schlafly may not get the cooperation he hoped for. In fact, many of Schlafly’s would-be allies in the conservative quest are rolling their eyes, to say the least. (Others, right and left, still can’t believe it’s not a hoax.)
And another feeble attempt to smear all conservatives with the same brush fails, if one reads the WHOLE article.
It’s not enough that they try to hijack my faith and get it all wrong in the process, now they’re going to rewrite the Bible? Good night people, get a grip.
It may be the case that other conservatives are (rightfully) denouncing the action. However, the Schlafy-family backing makes this something a little different. Unless, you’re going to argue that the Schlafly’s haven’t been stalwart leaders of the conservative movement for the last thirty-odd years.
Also, you called this an “attempt to smear all conservatives”. However, Oliver’s original post didn’t say anything implicating everyone falling in the conservative spectrum.
You call this a “smear”. When progressives point and laugh at the absurdity of the other side’s actions it’s not a smear. It’s derision. In this case, I think the wound was self-inflicted.
“Blessed are the warmongers”…that was healthy derision.
The conservative bible is the dumbest thing from the right this week.
I bolded it, in case you missed it.
I call it a smear, because, as usual, Oliver chooses to call any and all conservatives who come into his sights influential leaders of, and representatives of, and spokespersons for, all conservatives.
He wouldn’t say Pres Obama speaks for all liberals, or even all Democrats, and he’s the President!
Locus, I would argue that Pres Bush did quite a bit to weaken the influence of the Christian Right, Further, I would argue that while Phyllis Schafly was the “go to gal” for great right wing sound bites on women’s issues, she is an old line conservative of the Golwater stripe, who lost a lot of their power when Pres Reagan won in a landlide in 1984.
Some country song ditties would be a nice addition to this King Limbaugh Version of the Bible – say like “drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life.”
jaim, haven’t you realized yet that the most annoying person posting on this blog is you, and no one forces you to be annoying? The only person who actually stated that he regretted being unable to attack people is you. The only person that cannot let one thread go by without bad mouthing me is you.
In sum, “the blog” is not oppressing me, the people who comment here are not ganging up on me, and no one is harassing me but you.
“Blessed are the warmakers, for they shall inherit the government contracts.”
What are they going to do about the Sermon on the Mount?
I read about this earlier this week. So dumb. So very dumb.

Isn’t the Bible nothing more than interpretations anyway?
Oops “then”. Dang it!
cj, you were right the first time
This isn’t just a pointless exercise. It’s blasphemous.
The conservative bible is the dumbest thing from the right this week. Which is saying a lot.
If by “dumbest” you mean the “funniest fucking thing that ever happened,” then yes.

So funny.
@mambo- Thanks. My fingers get confuse from time to time over than and then.
They should call it the King Limbaugh Version.

Not enough Christians are willing to stand up to the fundies who, on an hourly basis, demean the name of their savior.
Seriously, if real Christians won’t stand up to these people then they might as well become atheists.
I thought there already was a Conservative Bible.
The Art of War by Sun Tzu.
Or is that more like Conservative porn?
So God didn’t write the Bible, but he wrote the Constitution? Just making sure.

*yawn*
Will the book of Matthew be there, but heavily redacted?

Plenty of us stand up to them, Jaim. But teh blithering idiots are the ones getting air time because it sells.
Frank,

Not so fast, Oliver. You forgot this little gem:

My fave part is the pregnant woman siding with Satan. Pretty much says everything one needs to know about the artist’s psyche.

Poor Frank. Terrorists have tied him up and forced him to read this liberal blog. It oppresses him so!

You, and you alone.
Yes, Jaim, you.
‘jaim, haven’t you realized yet that the most annoying person posting on this blog is you, and no one forces you to be annoying?’
You seem to manage pretty well without being forced.
