Blanche Lincoln & The Rigging Of The Game

The NY Times writes up the role Sen. Blanche Lincoln will have in the upcoming health care bill. Of course the problem is that Lincoln is up for re-election in a red state, and despite all the evidence that people in Arkansas support a public option – she keeps voting against one.

Republicans too often react with kneejerks to the demands of their base, Democrats act as if they’ve got none.

I’m not donating to the DSCC this cycle. I don’t want a penny of my money going to Lincoln’s campaign. We would be better off if she lost in 2010. Another D would take her place on Senate Finance, and Debbie Stabenow would probably become chair of Senate Agriculture.

  2. You know what the article forgot to mention? It mentions the fact that Cranky McSame beat Obama by twenty points there. It would be helpful to mention that any polls I saw said Hillary would have smoked Cranky McSame if she were the nominee. Which tells me two things. Arkansas voters love Hillary(Democrat and all), and I am sure plenty of them, sadly, were voting against Obama.

The want for short term wheelbarrows full of cash is an understandably powerful draw, but Senators have a chance to vote for a popular program and to be on the right side of History. But money, damn, that’s nice.
