In an ideal world, the owner of the Redskins, Dan Snyder, would be fired. That can’t happen, but the next best thing would be for coach Jim Zorn to get the axe.
Zorn was the accidental head coach last year, and it has become apparent why. The Redskins playcalling has been horrendous, with trick plays called unnecessarily, sweeps when the play should go up the middle, and an almost pathological avoidance of passing to the team’s #1 receiver.
The players aren’t stepping up – most notably QB Jason Campbell, but the major failure with the Redskins is in Jim Zorn’s hands.
So far this season they’ve allowed the useless Rams and Lions look decent, and are unable to call up basic plays to get the ball into the end zone.
For the good of the Washington Redskins, Jim Zorn should be fired.
You what you want about the Lions being useless the score is still ‘Skins 14, Lions 19. As a long suffering Lions fan I am going to gloat just this once because the big money team got their asses handed to them with a team that is started five rookies today.
team that is started five rookies today.
Sorry, “started” five rookies today.
Hold on, there about Jason Campbell, O-Dub. He threw for 340 yards and two TDs. Where the hell was the defense today?? But I agree: this is all on Zorn.
Jim Zorn has only gotten this far in football thanks to a right-wing nutjob of a former teammate.
Unbelievable.
The ‘Skins gave the Lions their first win. That is an OMG in the NFC East division, Oliver.
We can’t have this. As a Giants fan I will tell you that this is bad. Really bad.
We whipped Tampa Bay’s ass. At least beat them by three?
As a ‘Skins hater, I just have this to say:
May The Dan own that team forever.
As a Browns fan, I feel your pain, but at least your team got more than 3 points on the board today. It’s going to be a very long year in Cleveland, and even if you think Campbell’s inconsistent, he’s much better than either of our QB’s.
Calvin Jones, what’s the right-wing connection to Zorn you cite? Just curious, as I’m not in the DC area, and don’t know all the day-to-day stuff about the team.
>The ‘Skins gave the Lions their first win.
Ow.
Just ow.
As I clicked on ow.com, I made a bet with myself that the top headline was going to be ‘Fire Zorn,’ or some variant.
Just look at what Mike Singletary’s doing with subpar talent and tell me a coach can’t be a difference maker. They lost today, sure, but that team could easily be 0-3.

Zorn should have followed Singletary’s lead and dropped his pants at halftime.

I think CJ means Zorn spent a fair amount of his career throwing to Steve Largent. Made Zorn look like a decent QB. Why that should make him a head coach, IDK.
Zorn should have followed Singletary’s lead and dropped his pants at halftime.
Also punk the team diva by leaving him in the locker room at halftime. He’s got a 6-10 team playing at a 10-6 level. Zorn’s just the opposite. Maybe a mooning or two wouldn’t hurt.
Mike Wilbon was right.
Unload Campbell now while he’s still worth a little something. At the end of this season he won’t be worth anything.
Actually, it’s probably still too late.
This is going to be a long season. And Dan Snyder is a fucking moron.
fire zorn the idiot now.
I thought if you lost to the Lions, you get demoted to the CFL.
New York Giants 3-0
New York Yankees….American League East Division Champions.
Greatness is just a short ride up rt 95…Oliver.
On a day when the Yankees:
A. Clinched the AL East
B. Against the Red Sox in a sweep
C. Clinched best record in the major leages
and when the Giants stomped the Bucs 24-0, it’s a good day.
Seeing the Redskins fall to the Lions is like a cherry on top.
Seriously though, Oliver is right. The Redskins have a good team. They just have a lousy coach. Looking at today’s numbers, you can see that the killer here was time of possession. The Redskins only had the ball for 23 minutes. It’s hard for the defense to to play at the same level all the time when they have to be on the field for nearly 40 minutes of a 60 minute game. What gets me is why Zorn didn’t choose to run more. It’s not like the Lions were stuffing Portis (12 carries?!?!) and even Campbell rushed the ball once for 21 yards.
What gets me is why Zorn didn’t choose to run more.
News reports state that Portis is dealing with bone spurs, which is possibly why Zorn was skittish on this front. On the other hand, it’s not like you don’t have backups for that reason.
I grew up in the DC area in the Gibbs years. Good times.
“The Redskins have a good team.”
Honestly, people keep saying this but I don’t think it’s true. Campbell is a bust. The defense is serviceable, but not great. The offense is just pathetic. Portis’ best years are behind him.
What the ‘Skins are is the most expensive re-building project in the NFL.
“”"”"Seriously though, Oliver is right. The Redskins have a good team.”"”"
No. I keep hearing this on DC’s local sports talk shows and I just don’t buy it. They don’t have a good team and they haven’t had a good team for quite some time. They’ve got some talented players on both sides of a ball but calling them a good team gives them too much credit.
Fire the coach, sure. They have to. But as long as Danny the Putz Snyder owns this franchise and as long as he keeps the no-talent Cerrato as the defacto GM – no manager in the world will keep this franchise from being a dysfunctional assortment of overmarket over the hill players.
If you want to see how it works from the top down – take a quick drive up 95 to Baltimore.
Being skeptical as to going for QB’s in the college draft and starting them right away, it pains me to see Flacco and Ryan doing as well as they are.
Owners from Al Davis to Ralph Wilson to Dan Snyder like having little puppets around who won’t stand up to them
Kristol is to advocating war as Blatche is to running the Cover 3.
Zorn isn’t the only coach who needs to be fired.
I say you go with the Packers, but, by now, you all know this.
Here’s your problem in a nutshell:
