"They will not vote for a Republican for President or Senator,..."

Well, not recently, anyway. Bush 41, even as a non-incumbent, handed Dukakis his behind (figuratively speaking, of course), in N.J. in 1988.

Corzine did lower property taxes through the expanded homestead rebate. Unfortunately, the Bush recession blew a hole in the budget and he was forced to cut back on the rebates to balance the budget. Don't blame Corzine for Bush's failure.

New Jersey isn't a guidepost for anything. They will not vote for a Republican for President or Senator, but will vote for a Republican governor. In NJ it's all about property taxes, which are way too high. All candidates promise to lower property taxes, but no one ever does. Corzine said he would, but he didn't.

Dennis, unless Oliver pays to to "liven up" his blog (I kind of doubt it), you really should look into getting your own. Oliver is a lenient man in his moderation policy, and that's fine. It's your right to treat this place like your own, but it's also really pathetic.

It's really not that hard. If you fancy yourself such an awesome and authoritative internet-dude, why not just jump into it?

Considering how much time you spend posting here, once you were set up you couldn't probably do three or four posts a day on your own.

Get to is, sparky! America needs you to save itself from Barack Islamoblack Halfbama!

I'm interested in the race, because I live in NJ, but it is certainly not a bellwether of anything, anymore than a GOP Mayor in New York indicates an upturn for the GOP nationwide. Christie was ahead when people knew less about him, and you were basically measuring Corzine vs. "anybody". Lately, not so much.

14 posts in 17 hours, Enlightened Liberal, I just wanted to get things livened up in here a little bit since a scant few seem to want to talk about Corzine and New Jersey apparently. Can't figure out why you guys seem so down lately.

On a thread about a poll on a political race, what's so off topic about an article about fundraising for political races being down for Democrats? And why are you put off by it? Nothing to fear but fear itself, right?

Individual Governors races are rarely bellwethers of the national mood, and given the current economic climate incumbent Governors are frequently unpopular regardless of party.

I don't really care who is the Governor of New Jersey, but the state has a recent history of disappointing Republicans come election day.

Rasmussen's polling tends to be fairly reliable in the days before an election, falling in line with most other major polling firms. How accurate they are in capturing a snapshot of the electorate six weeks out is only guesswork - but a reliable tilt towards Republicans when compared to other pollsters makes their numbers suspect - unless you are among those that believe that every other polling firm is in the bag for the Democrats - in which case I have a Kenyan birth certicate to sell you.

Wilder? The guy who was thinking about switching to becoming Republican for a vice presidential bid?

As someone who used to live in Virginia, Wilder's endorsement doesn't count for jack shit, even among African Americans.

I still think the race is a tossup at best. Rasmussen's polling methodology is questionable at best. They frame their questions shoddily and use samples that favor conservative results. They're not as bad as Zogby by a long shot, but they aren't impartial either, especially after Fox started using them.

In 2008, Rassmussen had the <a>NJ senate race</a> at Lautenberg +14. The race ended at Lautenberg +13.

Rassmussen had the <a href="http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/nj/new_jersey_mccain_vs_obama-250.html#polls" rel="nofollow">Presidential tilt</a> at Obama +15. The final result was Obama +15.

You can't just throw out slurs and not expect to be refuted with the facts. "We checked!"

PS: Rassmussen currently has <a href="http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2009/governor/nj/new_jersey_governor_corzine_vs_christie-1051.html" rel="nofollow">Christie +7</a>.

<i>A poll conducted by Greenberg and Carville finds good news for the Democrat? Well knock me over with a feather!!!</i>

There are plenty of places you could wager on that outcome. If your believe so strongly that Greenberg and CArville are so biased, you really ought to get some money down on Christie to win at your earliest convenience. Good luck!

Yes, the same pollsters that showed recently congressional GOPers gaining on Dems. Dems/libs rely on GQR for serious analysis, we don't need cheerleaders like the right does (Rasmussen).
