Sarah Palin Attacks The President On Foreign Soil

Remember when Republicans considered such activities equal to treason? Not any more.

Also, from what I’m reading the moron’s speech was awkward liberal-bashing from people who wanted to hear some sense – but consider the speaker. For instance look at this:

Now even Milton Friedman, he recognized that the free market is truly free when there is a level playing field for all participants, and good financial regulations aim to provide the transparency that we need to ensure the level playing field does exist, but we need not, we need to make sure that this regulatory reform that we’re talking about is aimed at the problems on Wall Street and won’t attack Main Street.

This makes no sense. Not on policy, its just incoherent Palin babbling.

    Amazing.

Per the Olbermann Watch Research Division, MSNBC online transcripts of various stories discussed over the last week on Coundtdown yielded the following results:

    * racist/racism/racial: 83
    * palin: 67
    * beck: 43
    * acorn: 7
    * iraq: 2
    * afghanistan: 1

The parallels to here are astounding.

    Even the footnote rings true:

Notes: The references to ACORN were part of attacks on O’Reilly, Fox, etc. None represented any actual reporting on the ACORN scandals.

  2. merl says:

what the hell is wrong with you dennis? what did that have to do with the post?

  3. Luv says:

They’re not hypocrites because they’re Republicans, they’re Republicans because they’re hypocrites.

  4. isms says:

just ignore him, he’s irrelevant but he just doesn’t know it yet.

  5. Dennis says:

All Palin, all Beck, all racial issues, merl.
The parallels are amazing, that’s all.

    Carry on.

  6. Sean D. Martin says:

That is babbling. Does she not have a prepared text written out? Perhaps she should look into using a telepropter?

    Also

The opposite of a common-sense conservative is a liberalism that holds that there is no human problem that government can’t fix if only the right people are put in charge.

“is a liberalism”? Really? The opposite of a person is an ideology?

  7. JK says:

She’s like the bimbo that keeps running for class President. Initially, very popular because she’s “hot,” but once she opens her mouth, people figure out she’s dumb as dirt (sorry dirt) and vote for the nerd who’s head of the chess club.

These people must have been hard up for a speaker to drag her sorry *** to Hong Kong.

Maybe it was cheaper than hiring a stripper.

  8. Mike says:

By no means are all conservatives stupid, but nearly all stupid people are conservative.

  9. Parthenon says:

What’s somewhat more amazing is that anyone other than her non-adult children think this human random text generator ought to have been president.

  10. Indeed says:

“Maybe you’re hoping to hear me discuss the derivations of the formula for effective rate of protection, followed by a brief discussion of the monetary approach to the balance of payments,” she said. “If time allows, a quick summary of factor price equalization. Maybe some thoughts on quantitative easing, but that’s for next time. Because I have spent my life closer to Main Street. That’s what I want to talk about is that view from Main Street,” she said.”

No questions were allowed. For some reason. Also.

  11. Amused Observer says:

    LOL,
Did any of you folks actually click through and read the excerpts in the WSJ coverage of her speech?

Ollie even for you this is a new low. To use the words of the patriot Joe Wilson ” You Lie”

Please show me the quotes from the WSJ article you linked that constitute an attack on Obama on foreign soil?

  12. Indeed says:

    More.

It’s a shame that John McCain did not allow Sarah Palin to show off her incredible grasp of foreign relation– Oh wait, he did.

Will it ever stop being funny? Signs point to no. Also.

  13. Dennis, if you want to write your own blog, feel free. I’ll stop writing about Palin when she and her trailer gang close their pie holes.

  14. Amused Observer says:

    Say Oliver,
A wee bit confused about that Palin attack on Obama. Perhaps you could highlight a quote contained in the WSJ article you linked that might bolster the credibility
    of the lede you posted.

  15. A O: This is left wing America … Disagreement is an attack.

  16. Duros62 says:

Oh fuck, she’s citing Milton Friedman. Talk about out of your depth.

just ignore him, he’s irrelevant but he just doesn’t know it yet.

    Like a zombie.

  17. Duros62 says:

    We don’t believe that human nature is perfectible;

I’m sorry, is that a word?

  18. Amused Observer says:

Please Duros expound at length on Milton minutia. Show us your chops. Palin makes more sense in that excerpted article Oliver linked to then Obama has during his entire reign.

  19. Sean D. Martin says:

Frank DiSalle: A O: This is left wing America … Disagreement is an attack.

    Better that than “treason”.

  20. Sean D. Martin says:

Amused O: Palin makes more sense in that excerpted article Oliver linked to then Obama has during his entire reign.

See, it’s so obviously nonsensical stuff like that that keeps you from having any credibility at all.

Has Obama said stupid things at times, sure. Has Palin made sense at times, I don’t doubt it. But to say this ramble of a “speech” makes more sense than Obama ever has? Obvious nonsense.

  21. Sean D. Martin says:

“Maybe you’re hoping to hear me discuss the derivations of the formula for effective rate of protection, followed by a brief discussion of the monetary approach to the balance of payments,” she said. “If time allows, a quick summary of factor price equalization. It’s like the person who, uh, no. It actually is the person who desperately wants to impress so memorizes a few smart-sounding words with no idea what they actually mean, and ends up instead making it painfully clear just how little they do know..

  22. Indeed says:

It’s like the person who, uh, no. It actually is the person who desperately wants to impress so memorizes a few smart-sounding words with no idea what they actually mean, and ends up instead making it painfully clear just how little they do know..

Indeed. Much like this irretrievably stupid fraud and figurehead. Character counts!

  23. Duros62 says:

Oh shut the fuck up, AO. Not going down that road again.

  24. Matt Osborne says:

Oh, but she didn’t SAY THE NAME “Barack Hoo-sane Obama” so it’s all okay.

  25. Randy Brown says:

Somebody needs to zing Cut’n'Run Sally with Redd Foxx’s old heckler-killer:

“I could shut you up permanently, but my zipper’s stuck!!”

  26. Repack Rider says:

Having so much emotional capital invested in this empty pair of waders, the Right is having a hard time digesting the fact that she makes Reagan look like a razor sharp intellect by comparison. Nouns and verbs in her sentences seem to be chosen by random drawing, with no consideration for content or context. She’s so dumb that she doesn’t know that she’s dumb.

She’s a teen movie staple, the unwitting, arrogant buffoon soon to be deflated. She’s giving the book report without reading the book. She’s Chance the Gardener without the dignity. There is no rational explanation for her presence at any world summit of anything, but the entertainment value is priceless.

  27. Jaim says:

Palin matters because she’s a possible candidate for 2012.

And she’s going to get annihilated due to her sheer idiocy.

And I shall LOL and LOL and LOL.

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article6846041.ece

“One senior fund manager told The Times that the 80-minute lecture, and the lack of an opportunity to fire any questions at Ms Palin, was a disappointment. ‘You would think that with her team of speechwriters and a supposedly media-free environment Palin could have afforded to be either funny or thought-provoking, but she was neither,’ she said.”

So she wins the nomination for 2012, and Obama crushes her 70 to 30. Or else Romney squeaks it out but it fatally wounded by the birthers, fundies, and teabaggers, and he loses 60 to 40. Either way, it’s seven more years of having adults in charge.

  28. Randy Brown says:

Jaim, the way things look, the GOP may have a schism before 2012, with the more reasonable conservatives leaving to form a third party with center-right Dems and indies. That leaves the GOP to Palin, the mother-Beckers and the ditto-heads, which is not much of a party at all. BO still wins.

  29. Dennis says:

Amused Observer is 100% correct, there is no ‘Attack on the President of Foreign Soil’. None whatsoever from this link.

Saying conservatives used to consider such activities equal to treason, but not anymore?

What ’such activities’ of Palin’s did conservatives used to consider treason, but don’t anymore?

    Unbelievable.

  30. Quaker in a Basement says:

Great Scott! She talked for 80 minutes? She must have gone through three, maybe even four sentences!

  32. PD100 says:

“That leaves the GOP to Palin, the mother-Beckers and the ditto-heads, which is not much of a party at all. BO still wins.”

You can guarantee an Obama win in 2012 if the 9/12 nutter demographic get their way with opposing healthcare reform. They’ll be dead by then.

    GO TEABAGGER / PALIN / BACHMAN-FRONTAL-OVERLOBE / DEATH-PANEL 2012!!

  33. Who even gives a shit what this inbred troglodyte has to say?

By 2012 no one will even remember her name.

  34. ‘Disagreement is an attack.’

This from the people who applauded when Bush was arresting those wearing T-shirts that dared to criticize his sorry ass.

  35. ‘Palin makes more sense in that excerpted article Oliver linked to then Obama has during his entire reign.’

You forgot to wink, you betcha.

  36. Amused Observer says:

    LOL,
Even considrering the normal level of dumbass bullshit the reality impared liberal posters here spout this is a new low for intellectual dishonesty.

Linking through to the article that Ollie posted from the WSJ he is flat out lying when he speaks of an attack on the president on foreign soil. Flat out lying.

The rest of you pile on over, wait for it, absolutely nothing. Which is what you got, absolutely nothing.

I realize you prefer to believe in the lies that Obama routinely spreads but for what reason? In your gut you have to know it’s not true. No new taxes? get real. You can keep your existing health insurance? Sure up until the ins. companies are forced out of the biz. No rationing? Please, the more soberminded members of the administration have brought it up several times.

LOL, why do you guys bullshit yourselves? What purpose does it serve?

Palin, in Hong Kong, Criticizes Obama’s Policies

Sarah Palin took her closely watched political act overseas for the first time since resigning as governor of Alaska, telling a Hong Kong audience that President Barack Obama had weakened American influence in Asia….

Speaking on China policy, the former governor criticized the Obama administration for cutting back on some defense spending, suggesting that it sends a worrisome signal to allies depending on U.S. strength to counterbalance China’s growing influence.

“Our strong defense posture in Asia has helped keep the region safe and allowed … this area to prosper,” Ms. Palin said. “Our Asian allies get nervous if they think we’re weakening with security commitments.”

It is considered politically risky for U.S. public figures to criticize American policy on foreign soil. A White House spokesman declined to comment on Ms. Palin’s remarks.

Ms. Palin referred specifically to weapons cutbacks such as the F-22 Raptor fighter that the White House is pushing to cancel.

  38. Quaker in a Basement says:

I realize you prefer to believe in the lies that Obama routinely spreads but for what reason? In your gut you have to know it’s not true. No new taxes? get real. You can keep your existing health insurance? Sure up until the ins. companies are forced out of the biz. No rationing? Please, the more soberminded members of the administration have brought it up several times.

Have your taxes gone up, AO?
Has your insurance company gone out of business?
Has your health care been rationed?

    No?

    Then you’re making stuff up.

  39. Amused Observer says:

    LOL,
That’s an attack? Maybe O-Dub is just engaging in an extremely blatent case of inflammatory rhetoric. Why not play just play the racist card and say she’s speaking in code about Obama’s ethnicity. It makes about as much sense. After seeing Obama fold on Poland to placate Russia why wouldn’t Asia have some doubts about Obama’s commitment to a robust defense? There is no one so blind as those who choose not to see.

  40. Jaim says:

“After seeing Obama fold on Poland to placate Russia”

1988 called, AO. They want their delusional fantasies back.

But I’ll take the Joint Chiefs’ opinion over yours any day.

The missile defense stuff was pure fantasy. And expensive fantasy at that.

  41. icruise says:

Yeah, Oliver linked to the wrong article. That apparently equals “flat out lying.” Is this blog your only source of news, AO? Because I’m sure most of us had heard about Palin’s attacks on Obama earlier, so we knew what Oliver was talking about.

If someone high-up in the Democratic Party had flown to China while Bush was in power to give a speech saying that Bush was weakening the country in a time of war, I’m sure the Republicans would’ve just smiled and nodded right?

We on the left aren’t particularly outraged by what Palin is saying. We are just trying to point out the hypocrisy of how the right reacts. There’s no consistency whatsoever.

  42. Wilbur says:

What’s pathetic about Palin’s speech is not that she didn’t write it – all politicians have speechwriters, Obama included, but most politicians at least understand what the words of their speeches say, and can answer questions about them without tripping over their tongues.

    More Sarah, please!

  43. Sean D. Martin says:

Jaim: Palin matters because she’s a possible candidate for 2012.

Oh, please let her be the candidate. Please, Please, Please.

  44. Sean D. Martin says:

Amused 0: You can keep your existing health insurance? Sure up until the ins. companies are forced out of the biz.

Yeah, just like the Post Office forced FedEx and UPS out of business. And just like the existence of Medicare has resulted in nobody over 65 being covered by private insurance. And just like.. uh… Oh, wait.

  45. White Whale says:

At the very least she has committed treason to the English language. I hereby sentence Sarah Palin to an eternity of grading DOL papers!

  46. michael says:

I’m just impressed she didn’t wander off halfway through her speech.

  47. Amused Observer says:

    Dear Quaker,
I understand you deep seated need to nitpick. Perhaps I should have been more precise in my wording. Obama is lying when he claims his PROPOSED policies will not raise taxes, make it unlikely that your current insurance will be available, or lead to rationing. But you knew that.

    Icruise,
Ollies ledes are often inflammatory and misleading. This one was way over the top. With a different track record a mistake might be more plausible. Even parsing the link he did not use doesn’t give much credence to his wildly misleading lede.

    Sean,
I see we have one thing in common. Your post office example is however not one of our rare agreements. If you had better reasoning skills and a better grasp of history and economics it might occur to you that Fed. Express and UPS are private sector solutions created to compete with the shortcomings of the govt. run postal system that had been in existance 200 years prior to their founding.

  48. Anyone found that “attack” yet?

  49. Wilbur says:

Frank, yes. See Indeed above at 12:48. And then there’s this plan by the simian senator from Oklahoma to undermine US policy abroad.

  50. Amused Observer says:

    Wilbur,
Since the term simian would undoubtedly be termed racist if directed towards Obama is it appropriate to use it at all? We must be PC after all. Your definition of undermining US policy abroad seems a little overbroad.

  51. I see no entry at 12:48.

Of course, the Republicans referred to statements made by Democrats on foreign soil that undermined the efforts of our troops. The equivalence is not there, but who cares?

    We won

    den Den DEN!

  52. Indeed says:

If you had better reasoning skills and a better grasp of history and economics it might occur to you that Fed. Express and UPS are private sector solutions created to compete with the shortcomings of the govt. run postal system that had been in existance 200 years prior to their founding.

What about Sean’s ensuing example (the very next sentence)?:

And just like the existence of Medicare has resulted in nobody over 65 being covered by private insurance.

One could add that public universities haven’t driven Harvard out of business. Nor have public defenders driven private defense lawyers out of business.

  53. J. Winnfield says:

    That’s an attack?

Yes it is, “Amused Observer.” Yes it is.

  54. Indeed says:

Hong Kong Palin vs. Katie Couric Palin:

“We got into this mess because of government interference in the first place,” the former Republican U.S. vice presidential candidate said Wednesday at a conference sponsored by investment firm CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets. “We’re not interested in government fixes, we’re interested in freedom,” she added.

“Ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up the economy- Helping the — Oh, it’s got to be about job creation too. Shoring up our economy and putting it back on the right track. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americans.”

But Palin’s primetime disaster didn’t end there. Far from criticizing government regulation as she did today, Palin insisted, “John McCain will reform the way Wall Street does business.” But when pressed by Couric to “give us any more example of his leading the charge for more oversight,” Palin famously looked for a lifeline:

COURIC: I’m just going to ask you one more time – not to belabor the point. Specific examples in his 26 years of pushing for more regulation.

PALIN: I’ll try to find you some and I’ll bring them to you.

  55. Indeed says:

    Good grief:

Here’s Starburst Boy, after the Dixie Chicks said something mean about George W. Bush overseas, in 2003.

What the Dixie Chicks forgot is that, as country singers, they might be “artists,” but they’re not entitled to the alienated self-righteousness assumed by most every other artist in the country. No, they are part of the Country Music Nation, the red-white-and-blue musical heart of America, where our enemies are evil, our cause is righteous, and comments critical of the commander in chief on foreign soil on the eve of a war are, uh, shall we say, not appreciated.

And here’s his reaction when his crush Sarah Palin gave a lengthy speech in Hong Kong in which she criticized Obama’s handling of the current war in Afghanistan, his foreign policy, domestic policy, economic policy — pretty much trashed his entire administration.

Palin is an authentic, powerful voice of the populist right and in the speech she implicitly connects its call for limited government and sensible fiscal policy with America’s role as a world power.

It’s official: the “Country Music Nation” has changed its policy about criticizing white Republican commanders-in-chief overseas.

    Good to know!

  56. Zython says:

A O: This is left wing America … Disagreement is an attack.

A wise man once said, “Turnabout is fair play, bitch”.

  57. Sean D. Martin says:

    Amused 0: Sean,
I see we have one thing in common.

Our disdain for your typically irrational posts? Our amusement that you think you actually say anything relevant or meaningful?

If you had better reasoning skills and a better grasp of history and economics it might occur to you that Fed. Express and UPS are private sector solutions created to compete with the shortcomings of the govt. run postal system that had been in existance 200 years prior to their founding.

UPS has been around over 100 years, 0. But don’t let the facts stop you from casually tossing your ignorance around in an attempt to make a point.

And if you had a better grasp of current reality it might occur to you that the gov’t run post office has added many of those solutions (overnight delivery, real-time tracking of package status, etc. etc.) and still hasn’t been able to put any competitor out of business.

    -
I’m amused at those folks who complain that government can’t run anything efficiently, and then express shock at the thought of a public plan because the gov’t will run it so well it will but private insurance out of business.

  58. Sean D. Martin says:

Indeed: One could add that public universities haven’t driven Harvard out of business. Nor have public defenders driven private defense lawyers out of business.

Public vs private universities. THAT’s the other example I was trying to think of.

Despite costing significantly more than public schools, private education (at all levels) continues to thrive. Having a public option for education hasn’t put private schools out of business.

And I’ll remember the public defender for future reference, although it’s not quite the same thing since if it’s determined you are able to afford a private attorney you don’t get to make use of the public defender’s office. That is, it’s not like you can choose to use a public defender. You have to qualify.

  59. Wilbur says:

I see no entry at 12:48

    Sorry: 12:08

    Wilbur,
Since the term simian would undoubtedly be termed racist if directed towards Obama is it appropriate to use it at all?

Of course it is. Some words, like p0la¢k, d&g∞, h*nk3y and j!g@boo, are intrinsically racist; others depend on context. “Boy” for instance, has racial connotations in certain contexts; in others there is no racial connotation whatsoever. Same with “simian.”

No charge for the lesson in elementary semantics, a.o., happy to be of service.

  60. Duros62 says:

What the Dixie Chicks forgot is that, as country singers, they might be “artists,” but they’re not entitled to the alienated self-righteousness assumed by most every other artist in the country.

But you know what, Richie? As American citizens, they are.

  61. Sean D. Martin says:

“Ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up the economy- Helping the — Oh, it’s got to be about job creation too. Shoring up our economy and putting it back on the right track. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americans.”

With the sentences that trail off and then turn into tossing out a buzz word (”Oh, and job creation, too!”), does anyone else just hear Tina Fey’s voice when reading that?

I swear, Palin just sounds more and more like a caricature of herself every time she pops up.

  62. Duros62 says:

But wait! Buried in the word salad is something interesting. She agrees that reforming health care is needed to shore up the economy.

    Hmm.

    And such as.

    For the children.

  63. Amused Observer says:

    LOL Wilbur,
Your lesson on elementary semantics is bullshit. That’s the funny thing about black rappers etc. They put nigger out there for street cred, to make it real, and to “own” the term. The world doesn’t work that way. Nobody “owns” language. If you put something out into the common vernacular it becomes mainstream. You don’t own it, you can’t control it. Lose the taboo by over use and it’s gone. Richard Pryor finally got it, you don’t. No charge, happy to help.

  64. Zython says:

A.O., why do you care so much? Do you want to use the word THAT badly?

  65. Quaker in a Basement says:

Obama is lying when he claims his PROPOSED policies will not raise taxes, make it unlikely that your current insurance will be available, or lead to rationing.

Apparently you believe that both you and Mr. Obama can know the future.

  66. Wilbur says:

Did I say something about the word ni663r? Looks like a.o.is suffering from n!9q£¶ on the brain.

  67. Parthenon says:

S.D.M.:does anyone else just hear Tina Fey’s voice when reading that?

Off the top of my head I can’t recall another SNL parody that required literally no exaggeration.

and then express shock at the thought of a public plan because the gov’t will run it so well it will but private insurance out of business.

To be fair, I think the argument is more that the government plan will operate w/ a deck stacked in their favor, and set up incentives for employers to drop private plans. I don’t believe that’s actually what will occur for reasons already listed, but the argument -isn’t- that the government plan will be superior.

One could add that public universities haven’t driven Harvard out of business. Nor have public defenders driven private defense lawyers out of business.

Those are both excellent examples. Both public defenders and public universities operate at enormous unnatural advantages to their private counterparts. Both private systems existed a while prior to their public counterparts. And both public systems democratized access to the service they were offering.

  68. Indeed says:

Off the top of my head I can’t recall another SNL parody that required literally no exaggeration.

Indeed. In the Couric Interview Sketch, one of Fey’s answers was verbatim (literally, yes, word for word) what Palin had answered to the same question. Astonishing.

  69. Duros62 says:

    Richard Pryor finally got it,

What, by being dead and all?

  70. Duros62 says:

one of Fey’s answers was verbatim (literally, yes, word for word) what Palin had answered to the same question.

Except for the kicker: “I’d like to use one of my lifelines, Katie.”
