To be fair, I think Burton was thinking more of the original Joe Shuster image of Superman, who was thinner, longer-faced and had a capacity for shocking acts of violence — in other words, rather more like a Nicolas Cage character: http://kleinletters.com/Blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/superman1.gif

At least he has a cape. When producer Jon Peters first met with Kevin Smith, he told him that he didn’t want Superman to have a cape and in the movie you wouldn’t see him fly. I kid you not. This is the vision Peters had for Superman and Nick Cage was the guy to do it.

10 years ago Nicolas Cage would have been a very intriguing choice for this kind of role. But now? The dude’s hairline is receding almost as much as Lex Luthor’s. And that pic? Good Lord. It’s what we all pictured guys in KISS looked like without makeup. The idiotic costume is reminiscent of that horrible leather outfit that Ben Affleck wore when he ruined ‘Daredevil.’

Oh, come on! That’s a plastic action figure with Cage’s head photoshopped on. Look at the obvious joint between the arms the the torso.

I think that was preferable to putting him in an actual costume.

I know this sounds crazy, but until Warner Bros. decides to give either Spielberg or M. Night (you read correctly) a call, they’ll be walking on eggshells with every Superman movie. As the Batman and Spider-Man franchises proved, you need to find the right director.

I also noted that the “video” at timburton.jp is just a series of still images. We don’t see Cage moving around in this alleged suit, as we would in a real costume test.

It is a little known fact that Tim Burton neither reads nor likes comic books. Proposed scripts in the Tim Burton project had Superman being unable to fly himself and instead getting around in a flying car.

Crisis averted gentlemen. I wasn’t crazy about the last Superman flick, besides Spacey being Luthor(excellent!). I am waiting to see what is next down the pike for Supes. Lord knows I will be busy with Green Lantern, Thor, Avengers etc…:)
