Another Romney Fail?

1:39 am EST September 20th, 2009 | Politics | 16 Comments

Mitt Romney got clobbered by Mike Huckabee at the straw poll at the “Values Voter Summit”. For the GOP, the next election is likely to come down to a fight between the bible thumpers and the Wall Street crew in order to determine who eventually gets beaten by President Obama. My guess is that Huckabee isn’t a serious contender (Palin will likely be the preferred candidate of the evolution deniers) but its not good for the Mittster to have yet another poor showing with the base.

Mitt lost to an admitted squirrel eater

Squirrel eaters got gumption. It’s that kind of rugged individualism and backwoods ingenuity that made this country great.

I think the writing is on the wall. The DC Republicans want Mitt, since he’s potentially electable. Palin isn’t. But the fundies and the birthers and the bigots can’t get behind a Mormon who is on video tape clearly supporting a woman’s right to choose.

It’s going to be a bloodbath between Romney and Palin. And I’ going to enjoy every minute of it.

The Mittster expressed support for “Chairman Maobama’s Hitler Youth Indoctrination Session” (i.e. President Obama’s innocuous speech to schoolchildren), so he’s gonna have to explain that one to conservative Republican primary voters, lol.

Fear of Magic Underwear will ensure that Mitt Romney never becomes the nominee of the GOP. Nuff said.

My money is on Pawlenty in the stretch. Low goofball quotient and he’s willing to say/do just about anything, including rejecting federal funds for his state. Or at least take the pose. Look at me, cons! I’m ideological!

Presidential timber if I ever saw it.

It’s been my consistent belief that those shilling for Romney in the Republican party simply don’t understand evangelicals. Anyone who thought that a Mormon would make it past the gauntlet of the Republicans’ religious right base simply doesn’t understand the base.

Like anotherbozo, I’m betting that Pawlenty pulls it out: he’s the perfect compromise candidate: acceptable to the base as well as being perceived as electable by those pulling the pursestrings.

    O Dub

Remember now, this is the “christian” base of the party. Romney is never going to win a lot of those people over because he is Mormon. Nobody wants to really talk about it but its the truth. Hell why do you think John McCain all of a sudden became born again all of a sudden last year?

As much as I would love to see these people pick Palin in 2012 I actually think Mike Huckabee would do a lot more damage to the GOP than she ever could.

Romney is hands down the only person who could beat Obama in 2012. Obama will only be vulnerable if the recession lasts until then, and there is widespread victory. Short of that dire outcome, Obama will sail to victory.

If we are in a protracted economic crisis, no one will consider an unknown like Pawlenty, let alone someone as thoroughly frivolous as Sarah Palin. And evangelicals have often in the past held their noses to vote for the candidate with the best shot in the general election: George H.W. Bush, Bob Dole, John McCain just last year.

While I really can’t guess the GOP canditate in 2012. But if Obama serves two terms ; I’ll bet money that their guy in 2016 will be Jeb Bush. Yeah, that’s right another Bush. For awhile, I was sure that W. had permanently fucked Jeb’s chances; but as time goes on, I don’t think so.

This meeting probably includes 50%+ of Huckabee’s Fox audience.

I’m not so sure about that. Palin is cuter than Huckabee, but that’s pretty much all she’s got going for her at this point. I don’t think her bizarre decision to quit as governor is going to play very well with the base.

As for Romney, he’s always bet that there are enough non-morons in the Republican Party to carry him. Interesting strategy.

The Mittmeister has Big Money on his side, and it doesn’t take Bobbi Flekman to know what that means. He’ll buy off Dobson and Co. with public blowjobs and private wheelbarrows full of cash-money. Besides, it’s his turn. Between that and the dough, that’s how it works.

I don’t think Palin’s runnin’. She still has support from some mouth-breaters, but she’s a punch line and entirely unelectable. And she may even know this. She’s not showing up for the mandatory meetings like this freakshow and will be content to cash her book money and speaker fees and bask in the the undue attention media villagers will throw her way whenever she opens her chalupa hole.

    “…Pawlenty…Low goofball quotient…”

Timmy blasted Obama’s speech to schoolchildren and called for Minnesota state agencies to cease ACORN funding, even though Minnesota state agencies don’t receive ACORN funding in the first place. Anotherbozo, are you sure by “low goofball quotient,” you didn’t actually mean “high goofball quotient?”

    I know it.
    You know it.
The Media Village does not know it.
