My response would be that you are very lucky. Apparently your wife and daughter are both in excellent health and have never had any major health problems. You apparently have the wherewithal to pay for routine health procedures out of pocket.

Further, my response would be to wish your family continued good fortune. The type of coverage you seem to have is of the sort that insurers like to rescind if it looks like the patient is going to cost them money.

The problem is, we are fiddling with all of these weird metaphors like “buying insurance” when what we really want is to make sure everybody who needs health care gets it, just the way we expect that every child will go to school and every fire will be extinguished.

That’s why things like “excluded pre-existing conditions” are anathema, because they are attempts to exclude people from something that, regardless of how it is delivered, should be accessible to everyone.

For the record, I did make that up as an illustrative example of a cause that 50,000 people would be shocking to see coming out for.

Quaker, “mistaken” for what, my wife, and daughter are covered and it is cheap, but it requires shopping around, and going through the underwriting, yes it took longer to get them covered but they are both covered for less than 200 per month with Anthem Blue Cross. You know what though, I am for Darwinism, I am against the seatbelt law, the helmet law, and other laws that have been on the books for far too long. If you are too stupid to survive in this country, then you need to get out of the gene-pool, (this is certainly one reason to support abortion). Now what would your response be? “Oh that’s smart, without those laws our healthcare costs would be even higher because of accident victims.” Yes, but in the long term we would have a smarter less costly populous.
