Limp Harry Reid Pushing Useless Trigger
Tweet
Harry Reid plots to give it all away again.
Speaking to reporters near the home where he grew up in this rural mining town south of Las Vegas, Reid said that Finance Committee negotiations over a ‘trigger’ for a public option are something ‘we’re going to look at.’ This trigger concept has gained steam in recent days; under this proposal the government would only start offering health insurance if the private insurance industry did not meet certain benchmarks for covering the uninsured.
A trigger is a waste of time and a poor substitute for the public option. If Harry Reid and President Obama try to push this excrement sandwich we folks on the left should all find something more interesting to do in November of next year, like bowling.

Amen to that.
Oliver, I remember not too long ago when you were a pretty middle-of-the-road Democrat (as I used to be myself, pre-W.) Lately you’re sounding like an out-and-out dirty fucking hippie. Welcome to the club and keep up the good work!
Lazy Harry killed health care reform so he could have a month long vacation. He can’t relate to the struggles that an independent contractor or someone to young to get medicare would face to pay 4 figures a month in health care premiums.
Lately you’re sounding like an out-and-out dirty fucking hippie.
Fact is I’m still pretty middle of the road but I don’t see the logic of eating crap sandwiches when you have majorities in the House, Senate, and you run the White House. This is important stuff.
It’s almost as though Harry wants to raise money for a primary challenger.
I might have something else to do on election day, myself. A perfectly pleasant round of golf sounds good.
There’s nothing overly librul about wanting strong leadership. And Harry Reid ain’t it.

You don’t like your current Senator or Congressperson because they aren’t fighting hard enough (or at all) for the things you want, so you’re going to abstain in the next election and let them be replaced by someone activey working AGAINST you?
Ant then what? Deny all responsibility for the resulting mess because, hey, you didn’t vote for Senator Wingnut. While also feeling satisfied that you really showed Obama, et al a thing or two?
Find someone you Do like, someone who WILL do the job and work to get them elected, vote for them. It’s far better than petulantly stomping your feet.
“… all that is needed is for good men to do nothing.”
so you’re going to abstain in the next election and let them be replaced by someone activey working AGAINST you
The way they’re operating now, are they doing what we need them to? Why reward bad behavior? If someone in a primary position is on the right side, all for them, but I can’t think of a single good reason for people in Nevada – for instance – to keep voting for Harry Reid.
It really is starting to seem to me that Obama is playing the “Yeah, I’m bad, but where you gonna go?” card.
That’s the problem with the GOP. They’re so batshit insane that this IS the best we can hope for right now.
If Obama keeps up this consistently disappointing track record I’m dreading a Palin face-off in ’12.
I’m not worried about Palin. She’s too much of a fruit-loop.
But there are credible GOP candidates out there who might survive the circular firing squad that is the loony-tunes GOP and make a decent run at it.
The fact is, the centrist Democrats know your threats are empty. You won’t stay home and see the Republicans take over Congress(not that it even matters where you live, so your gesture would be purely symbolic). Nor will liberals vote against health care reform. And the President will sign any bill.
It’s all a bluff. And we all know it’s a bluff.
What’s really weird is that liberals have thrown away health care reform in a fit of pique before: during the Nixon administration. They wanted something better, so they took nothing at all. Way to serve the people there.
As I have posted elsewhere, if the Democrats don’t pass health care reform with a strong public option, I am leaving the Democratic Party for good. I have worked for Democratic causes for 30 years and given thousands of dollars to the Party. However, if they blow this opportunity to make meaningful change, given majorities in both houses of Congress and in the White House – I am done. I will throw all of my support to the Green Party because to me, there isn’t a nickels worth of difference between the two major parties.
You don’t like your current Senator or Congressperson because they aren’t fighting hard enough (or at all) for the things you want, so you’re going to abstain in the next election and let them be replaced by someone activey working AGAINST you?
welcome to Conservativeville, 2006-present.
1994, bitchez!
Adding that if a lot of Democratic voters are unmotivated next year it’s PRECISELY the conservadems who will lose their seats, not the liberals in safe blue districts. If they don’t know that they’re stupid. Which they may be.
Personally I think it would be worth it just to get rid of some of these worse-than-useless assholes, including Harry Reid (whose own re-election bid is not looking too good right now.)
There’s nothing overly librul about wanting strong leadership.
What’s the GOP’s excuse?
OW: The way they’re operating now, are they doing what we need them to? Why reward bad behavior?
Who said reward it? I said if they aren’t doing what you want you should replace them with someone who will, not with someone who will actively work against you.
I can’t think of a single good reason for people in Nevada – for instance – to keep voting for Harry Reid.
Nor can I. And I can think of lots of reasons that they should vote against him. That is, FOR someone who will actually do the job right.
I can’t think of a single reason why they should stay home, go bowling or play golf and hand the spot over to someone even worse than Reid.
Can you?
Can you?
Yes, because with Reid gone the Dems may elect an effective leader in the senate.
OW: Yes, because with Reid gone the Dems may elect an effective leader in the senate.
That would also be the possibility if Reid is replaced with a different Democrat. Why give his seat to a Republican?
You’re not making sense.
Friends Democrats and progressives, remember,
the last 8 years was a total craphole, and remember our president has 8 years of clusterfuck to clean up, so if we get half a loaf of healthcare and our troops out of Iraq, that will be truly something, remember 70 years have passed w/ NO HEALTHCARE for all, what if it takes Obama two years to fix the healthcare mess alone?
He Has a LOT on his plate, he is in his FIRST TERM
let’s give the guy some slack, also my fellow progressives, we all put into him what WE wanted to see in him, I personally thought he was just a good speaking moderate, so
a) cut him some slack, he is WAY more than just not W
b) not all the Democrats in congress are actually progressives
c) he will do what can be done w/ blue dog assholes and other miscreants
d) He is NOT the second coming of FDR
e) there is no e, just chill a little he has a LOT on his PLATE
Sean, you make it sound so easy, just vote for a different dem. Its not that easy. The system requires huge amounts of money, thats why corporate dems have done so well, they get gobs of money from corporations.
Sam Simple, I am totally with you. Obama got huge amounts of liberal’s time and money in 2008. He never would have won without it and look what we get, the back of the hand. Fug em I say! Healthcare is the number 1 issue in this country, with out single payer of some sort, Medicare for all, we are all screwed. I am tired of being kicked around by the party I voted for.
iRobot: Sean, you make it sound so easy, just vote for a different dem. Its not that easy. The system requires huge amounts of money, thats why corporate dems have done so well, they get gobs of money from corporations.
Translation: “It’s hard. And probably won’t work. So why bother even trying? Besides, walking the golf course complaining about the result is easier than trying to change the result.”
You’ll get what you deserve.
