Maria Bartiromo Is Stupid

She of course is the biggest name over at business channel CNBC:

Rep. Weiner reminded her that there already is government-managed health care in the United States — namely, Medicare, the system created for Americans 65 years and older — and that patients with Medicare report very high satisfaction rates.

Bartiromo’s response to this argument was a true head-scratcher. In a mocking tone, she pressed the congressman: “How come you don’t use it [Medicare]? You don’t have it. How come you don’t have it?”

Rep. Weiner, who turns 45 this week, tried to walk Bartiromo through it. “Because I’m not 65.” But she was insistent. “Yeah… c’mon!” she exclaimed, laughing incredulously.

  1. The network that gave us Jim Cramer. You know, the guy who Jon Stewart just pwned over and over again?

These people aren’t paid to think, much less honestly report; they’re paid to emit right-wing talking points.

    Maria Bartiromo Is Stupid

Indeed. Someone that stupid was technically President of the United States from 2001 until earlier this year. Really. No kidding.

  3. william says:

Yeah…Mr. Brilliant quadroupled down on stupid.

What part of “we are broke” don’t you guys understand?

  4. Stu says:

What’s even worse is that the Congresswoman does have government run health care, as do all members of Congress. I don’t know why she didn’t bring that up.

Interestingly, not one of the Republican congresspeople that are opposed to government run health care has given up their own government run health care.

So what! She has a great pair of……………eyes.

What part of “deficit neutral” don’t you understand?

Silly rabbit. That would require principles.

  8. Bert Eisenstein says:

Is she stupid or cunning? Technically her statement is correct. The congressman doe not have Medicare. Ms. Bartiromo’s exchange follows the right wing model to a “T”. And that is to make your point using falsehood and deception. I personally think she is dumb as a coal bucket and just got lucky with how she handled this.

  9. Wilfredo says:

Medicare is an excellent health plan. So what’s the problem with that?

  10. Duros62 says:

That’s what I’d like to know.

  11. Greg says:

“I don’t know why she didn’t bring that up.”

See the video at Huffpost, she and he do discuss it.

Bartiromo: “Well excuuuuuse me! I minored in economics!”

“What part of “deficit neutral” don’t you understand?”

Do you REALLY believe that? The president can’t get even the basic arithmetic right much less guarantee this boondoggle will be deficit neutral.

Did you believe the president when he said unemployment wouldn’t go above 8%? I sure as hell didn’t. And neither should you.

The president can’t get even the basic arithmetic right

Your link doesn’t show that, willie. The blogger you link cleverly moves the goal posts from “cost over ten years” to “annual cost after the program is fully implemented.”

Mind you, that’s not an unreasonable point to discuss. It’d be nice if the writer was honest about it, though.

  15. durablend says:

The perfect GOP presidential candidate! Looks great but otherwise brain-dead. You guys on the right planning on nominating her?

  16. Stu says:

“what part of ‘we are broke’ don’t you guys understand?”

Why are Democratic proposals that actually help the majority of Americans the only ones that have to pay for themselves? Medicare isn’t deficit neutral either. Repeal the Bush tax cuts at the same time you pass health care and it will decrease the deficit.

  17. Quaker in a Basement says:

Looks like Suicidal has caught Farris’ Link Fail disease. From the editorial he cites:

A bill before Congress, the United States National Health Insurance Act, would provide more comprehensive coverage for all. The bill includes doctor, hospital, long-term, mental health, dental, and vision care, prescription drugs, and medical supplies, with no premiums, copayments, or deductibles.

We must let Congress know we want improved access to affordable healthcare for all, not more expensive private health insurance we can’t afford to use when we are sick. Massachusetts healthcare reform fails on all five Institute of Medicine criteria. Congress should not make it a model for the nation.

In short, the editorial says Massachusetts health care reform is a failure because it’s nothing at all like the proposals in Congress!

I was going to say, that looking at the 5 problems with the system, it seems to say the issue is that the Massachusetts health-care system sucks because the state’s not doing enough.

  20. calling all toasters says:

What part of “we are broke” don’t you guys understand?

The part where there’s always money for another disastrous invasion?
The part where tax cuts for the wealthy are always a good idea?
The part where our defense budget is roughly equal to that of the entire rest of the world?
The part where a money-saver like single-payer can’t even be considered?

  21. Rudy says:

Repeal the Bush tax cuts at the same time you pass health care and it will decrease the deficit.

Hell, while we’re at it, repeal the immoral Reagan tax cuts.

  22. Wek says:

Trivia: Rep Weiner and Jon Stewart were once roommates.

  23. Tyro says:

What part of “we are broke” don’t you guys understand?

Hm. Where were you around late 2002 and early 2003? I seem to remember some tax and war initiatives that weren’t exactly revenue-neutral.

  24. Wilbur says:

What part of “we are broke” don’t you guys understand?

What part of “the current health care system will break us far worse than we are broke already” don’t you understand?

  25. Jay says:

We were promised that Medicare would never cost more than $10 billion a year. Last year it cost close to $420 billion and will soon run out of money. That’s the cost for covering about 50 million people.

Regarding that article about Massachusetts, the most striking thing is that despite all that it is NOT doing, the costs of it NOT doing enough have doubled in two years!

She goes on to say that Medicare is the model for what we need to do for universal health care coverage, but as anybody can see, the costs for Medicare goes light years beyond what we were told and it won’t be sustainable without tax increases at some point. Where in the world does everybody think the money is going to come from to cover an additional 250 million people?

  26. Indeed says:

Where in the world does everybody think the money is going to come from to cover an additional 250 million people?

Ultra-wealthy dumbfuck assholes like Maria Bartiromo. Next question.

  27. Jay says:

Indeed, you’re a jackass. That’s not up for debate as have yet to say anything in the comments that has any substance. But you’re also an unusually stupid jackass. If we just conservatively estimate the costs of covering 250 million people as we do with Medicare, you’re looking at a cost of nearly $2 TRILLION a year. That’s on top of a budget that exceeds $2 trillion. If you honestly think their are enough “Ultra-wealthy dumbfuck assholes like Maria Bartiromo” in the country to fund all of that, then you really need to get off the drugs.

Now, granted, the costs may not be that high because many people are younger and in good health and won’t require use of the plan, but it is going to cost a LOT of money and you can easily take whatever costs they’ve given as estimates and quadruple that. For starters.

  28. Quaker in a Basement says:

Where in the world does everybody think the money is going to come from to cover an additional 250 million people?

Most of those 250 million people have medical insurance now. Where does that money come from?

  29. Duros62 says:

Did you believe the president when he said unemployment wouldn’t go above 8%? I sure as hell didn’t. And neither should you.

Did he guarantee that? Didn’t think so.
