Smooth move, Oliver. Make fun of the presentation, but help spread around the actual, unexpurgated statements and positions and beliefs of some of Obama’s top advisors — all of whom he placed in their positions of power without bothering with Congressional approval. Meaning that they have not been subjected to the checks and balances called for by the Constitution.

Man, for all the fun you make of Beck, he played you like a fiddle on this one. He got YOU to spread his message for him.

“…all of whom he placed in their positions of power without bothering with Congressional approval.”

They’re just advisers, they don’t have “positions” to have power in. That’s why they don’t need to be confirmed by the Senate (“…bothering with Congressional approval”).

  4. ZIRGAR says:

Glenn Beck is like the guy that’s always on the bus or subway who smells like piss and mothballs, with eight layers of clothing on, shit all over his outermost layer of pants, vomit and snot in his beard and swats at invisible fairies flying around his head full of wild, unwashed, unruly hair, bellowing that he has electricity flying off his tongue. You know you shouldn’t watch but you just can’t help it.

  5. Gerald Henderson says:

You’ve been bringing the stupid to this blog and others for years now, “Jay Tea.” Don’t you ever get tired of being a moron?

Keep being ignorant, and keep smooching right-wing ass. We’ll keep mocking you.

That’s pretty much true about nearly every Obama appointee. They all derive their power from the president. Even the Cabinet secretaries have little statutory power, but act and serve at the pleasure of the president.

So, these advisors: what are they being paid? What are their budgets? What advice are they giving?

I recall a HUGE stink when Dick Cheney had private meetings with energy companies. Those people didn’t have official titles and roles in the government…

And Obama once said we should judge him by those he chooses to advise him. Well, these are those he chose to advise him.

…and isn’t it a bit late for someone to play the race card in Van Jones’ defense? After all, people can’t be opposing him simply because of his Communist/radical ties, his criminal record, and his inflammatory words and deeds?

I saw this last night. He is one weird guy. I feel sorry for his children. All the “scary” stuff he was quoting was pretty milquetoast.

No one this weird is lacking strange skeletons in his closet. I have a feeling his vices and kinks are going to bubble up eventually.

  9. swamptroll says:

    Hey Tea,

“I recall a HUGE stink when Dick Cheney had private meetings with energy companies. Those people didn’t have official titles and roles in the government…”

The stink was that the “who” of the meetings was secret. People wanted to know who was crafting energy policy with Dick Cheney.

So since none of Obama’s presidential advisors are being held in secret, it’s not really a very good comparison.

    GOD that was EAAAAASY!!!

Also, looking at this thread and post it seems like you’re the only person to mention race here. Maybe you were the one who wanted to play cards? Maybe I missed something since I don’t troll on blogs all day like you do.

Does anyone really believe Van Jones would have a position within the Obama administration if he were not black?

Obviously you have not thoroughly looked at his credentials or you would not have made such an ignorant statement. I know he may not meet your so-called standards but for anyone not looking at him via “race-colored” glasses such as you he would.

  12. White Whale says:

    “his criminal record”

Which I recall was expunged from his record and he recieved an apology from said police department for the mistake. But I am sure Jay could find a rap sheet a mile long on Van Jones, right? No?

I think he is there for climate/energy issues advice, not to lecture on political philosphy. This “Teh Communist” claim is really getting old from the right. Your Red Scare mentality still shows you live in the 40′s and 50′s. Its over guys, you can come out of the bunker. The Communist/terrorist/facists/marxist/socialist(Since cons conflate these groups together) people are not at your door…or are they!?

  13. Repack Rider says:

So, these advisors: what are they being paid? What are their budgets? What advice are they giving?

Dick Cheney wouldn’t even say who his people were, but you are setting a higher standard for Obama? Did you have any complaints about Cheney’s secret staff?

  14. Jay Tea says:

Repack, Cheney’s folks weren’t being given government positions. Jones is.

Whale, that’s the kind of info that would have come out had Obama sought Congressional approval before appointing him. That might have been shot down, and other questions — such as his extensive history as a devoted Marxist, his involvement in the Glenn Beck boycott, and whether this “Special Advisor for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation” has EVER had a job in the private sector.

(shrug) On the other hand, it does make it a LOT easier to judge Obama by those he appoints, and marvel at the most transparent administration ever…

I don’t think I could quite reconcile myself to getting furious at how Kalid Sheikh Mohammed was treated, then seconds later demanding that far worse be done to Dick Cheney.

Guess I’m just not tolerant and inclusive and progressive enough…

Regular people look at these loons, cringe and don’t want anything to do with that type of derangement. You guys look at them and agree with their delusions. If you really believe those things and think it will lead to Republican victory, I have to just laugh and laugh.

  18. Amused Observer says:

I went over Van Jones record. He is a brighter than normal black rabble rouser who made it through law school undoubtedly based on only his own merits and has recently become obsessed with environmental concerns. This has turned into his most profitable gig, it pays much better than black nationalism or communism. I stand by my question and would further clarify it by stating that it is quite obvious that if he were not black he would not be an advisor to Obama. It is quite telling that an Obama environmental expert gets his technical expertise as a lawyer writing a book.

  19. fafaroo says:

Shorter Amused: I went over Van Jones record and I discovered that he is black. Accordingly, he must not be qualified for any position he has ever held or currently holds.

  20. joaquin says:

These appointments can’t be just shrugged aside by saying “What about Cheney?” The days of blaming the Bush folks are over, guys.
I don’t much care for Beck, but there are a lot of advisers in the WH that have the Pres. ear. Why would they be there if they didn’t?
This isn’t going to go away and you guys better hope one of these guys isn’t a bad-card and or goes Howard Dean.
The press needs to be asking these advisers for interviews to find out what they’re all about.

  21. Amused Observer says:

    Not so Fafaroo,
He is clearly qualified to be an advisor to Obama.

  22. fafaroo says:

This isn’t going to go away and you guys better hope one of these guys isn’t a bad-card and or goes Howard Dean.

Yes, because Howard Dean has been a disaster for the Democrats.

  23. Quaker in a Basement says:

The press needs to be asking these advisers for interviews to find out what they’re all about.

The President asks smart people for advice? Dog bites man. Nevertheless, if the press does interview the so-called czars, it won’t matter if they’re all the intellectual and ethical heirs of Albert Schweitzer. You people will still wet yourselves.

  24. Indeed says:

Wow. Just wow. Any Republican, right winger, “center right” or other self-applied “conservative” want to defend Amused Observer? Any want to take issue with these statements, which are quite obviously racist?

Anyone wonder why the Republican Party in its current state has major problems recruiting minorities? I sure don’t.

  25. joaquin says:

Quaker – If the press does start asking these appointees for interview, you think they’ll be granted? I don’t. Do you?
Wouldn’t it be great to see these guys do the Sunday shows?

  26. Repack Rider says:

if he were not black he would not be an advisor to Obama.

    I never watch TV.

If they could break away from John McCain.

  29. Robert says:

Van Jones was formerly a ‘community organizer’* here in Oakland, CA. We (the people who live here in Oakland) were sorry to see him go, and hope he comes back after his eight years in the two Obama administrations.

    Ann Coulter is a liberal?

  32. daniel rotter says:

Re: Jay Tea’s posting on September 2nd at 11:15 a.m.

Are you (Jay Tea) actually saying that Van Jones being involved in a boycott involving Glenn Beck SHOULD BE A FUCKING FACTOR IN WHETHER CONGRESS SHOULD HAVE APPROVED HIM OR NOT?????????!!!!!!!!! And even if it should be (and it certainly shouldn’t be, although Jay Tea’s idiocy level is high enough that he apparently believes the opposite), you don’t actually provide any evidence that Jones was involved in said boycott in the first place.

  33. Zython says:

Beats being liberal, Parthenon — then you gotta spend all your time convincing yourself that your fellow Americans who oppose you politically are the most evil human beings on the face of the earth.

It’s actually pretty easy, considering torture and treating homosexuals as subhuman is part of the party platform.

I don’t think I could quite reconcile myself to getting furious at how Kalid Sheikh Mohammed was treated, then seconds later demanding that far worse be done to Dick Cheney.

U.S. prisons are worse that Gitmo?

These appointments can’t be just shrugged aside by saying “What about Cheney?” The days of blaming the Bush folks are over, guys.

Who are you to decide that?

This isn’t going to go away and you guys better hope one of these guys isn’t a bad-card and or goes Howard Dean.

Considering he referred to the party as “The Democrat Party”, rather than the “Democratic Party”, I would take what he said with a mountain of salt.

  36. Quaker in a Basement says:

Re: Norman Thomas quotes, the Snopes.com jury is still out.

However, if you Google either of the cited quotes above, you’ll find a long, long list of wingnut sites repeating the same quotes, most in exactly the same wording. (Watch for “He went on to say…” before the second quote.)
