Republicans Antagonize Our British Allies With Health Care Lies

In this instance, it looks like the right is taking a page out of Bush foreign policy.
Hamish Meldrum, the chairman of the British Medical Association, said in a statement Wednesday that he has been dismayed by the ‘jaw-droppingly untruthful attacks’ by some American critics.
One of the most surprising of these was the rumor — given an airing by Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa), a former chairman of the Senate Finance Committee and now its senior Republican member — that Kennedy, 77, a Democrat from Massachusetts, would not receive treatment for his brain tumor if he were in England because he is too old.

But.. but… but… if the US were to actually provide care based on need, why, that would just undermine the whole basis of the “I got mine, screw you” America that the wingnuts grew up in.

Never mind in all this discussion that what is being proposed here has nothing to do with the NHS…
Over here in the UK our very own wingnuts (Tories) have been supplying ‘ammunition’ to the wingnut opponents of healthcare reform in the US.

“That is why no amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party that inflicted those bitter experiences on me. So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin. They condemned millions of first-class people to semi-starvation. Now the Tories are pouring out money in propaganda of all sorts and are hoping by this organised sustained mass suggestion to eradicate from our minds all memory of what we went through. – Nye Bevan, 1948″

I think the Democrats are allowing everything to get watered down in this. They should be proposing the simple and gradual phase-in of Medicare for everyone, over a 5-year period. Ths system would take on the expanded scope gradually, and the insurance companies would find new shady businesses to get into. Most people are able to wrap their minds around an existing system like Medicare, but cannot grasp whatever the hell is the current Democratic plan.
The GOP tools know how to keep all their lies simple — why don’t the Dems offer a simple plan?
