Quarterback Michael Vick has signed a two-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, his agent, Joel Segal, confirmed to ESPN.com.
Vick arrived in Philadelphia Tuesday morning and remained there Wednesday evening. The Eagles will hold a news conference on Thursday morning to announce his signing.
Didn’t see that coming.

Good city for him to end up in. Probably a low probability of fan backlash for hiring him.
Hmmm…must be missing all the publicity T.O. once gave the team.
Hmm. This doesn’t seem like a bad fit.
The guy’s actions were despicable, but he deserves a second chance.
I *SO* wanted him to end up in Cleveland. Alas…
He’s got better taste than that.
I was hoping Denver, they need the helps.
Ha ha, Philly, what a perfect fit. Their fans are the biggest assholes on the east coast, so why not?
He did go to jail for almost two years and he did lose a lot of money. Fuck it, let him play.
From what I hear from my (mostly white) Philly friends, many of the fans there – the sports radio types – tend to be almost overtly racist – for instance, they’ve never liked Donovan McNabb from day 1, despite him leading them to multiple Superbowls and being a relatively decent guy, as professional athletes go. They complain when he smiles on the sideline because he “isn’t taking the game seriously,” but complain when he doesn’t smile because he “doesn’t look like he’s having fun out there.”
So I’m not sure how bringing in another black QB who was in jail for killing dogs will go over.
OB Controversy in 3..2..
@ Farris: Haw! Wouldn’t it be fitting for his fans to bark at him for 60 minutes every Sunday?
He did go to jail for almost two years and he did lose a lot of money. Fuck it, let him play.
It’s a free country. The Eagles are free to hire him and I, and many others, are free to change the channel rather than watch him play.
His reward for serving his penalty is that he gets to come back to society. He does not “deserve” to get his multi-million dollar career back.
“His reward for serving his penalty is that he gets to come back to society. He does not “deserve” to get his multi-million dollar career back.”
Man that’s bullshit and you know it. NFL football is his career. It’s his job for christ sake. WTF is he supposed to do? Pick up trash on the side of the highway so you can drive by and further humiliate him? With your logic, Martha Stewart does not “deserve” to her Multi-Million dollar career back neither.
You know, chow shark, there’s a thousand other jobs between “NFL quarterback” and “highway trash picker.” Vick’s a charismatic guy. He could sell cars.
And no, Martha doesn’t “deserve” it back, either. Whether or not she’s “earned” it back is another story, but you don’t “deserve” your old life back when you serve out your conviction. If that were the case, lawyers wouldn’t get disbarred.
jojo:
McNabb only led them to one Super Bowl. He’s led them to five NFC Championship games. Are there some Philly fans that are racist? Sure. But then racism has a long history here. Race doesn’t have anything to do with it though. If you remember, the talk radio yahoos(plus the present Governor of PA .. who was Philly mayor then) all wanted the Eagles to draft Ricky Williams. Besides, Jimmy Rollins is loved in this town. It has to do with performance.
I don’t care one way or the other – I don’t watch football. But where’s PETA on all of this?
And when will this society find some act so despicable that a guys doesn’t deserve a bazillion dollars for playing a kid’s game after committing it ?
I don’t want those PETA loons on this, I really don’t.
And we do have such acts that we find so despicable. They’re called doping and gambling.
“His reward for serving his penalty is that he gets to come back to society. He does not “deserve” to get his multi-million dollar career back.”
The dogs that he murdered didn’t deserve what they got either. I hope they boo him unmercilessly whenever he is on the field. He is a low-life scumbag.
Deserving it has nothing to do with it. Being a NFL star isn’t a reward for good behavior, it’s a reward for being born with great talent and working hard to hone it. Good behavior has got nothing to do with it.
“If that were the case, lawyers wouldn’t get disbarred.”
So are we in agreement that Bush’s old appointees don’t deserve the current jobs they hold?
“Deserving it has nothing to do with it. Being a NFL star isn’t a reward for good behavior…”
Thank You sir!

Oh yes, very much, we are in agreement on that.
Um, did we forget that he is evil and cruel and slaughtered dogs that did not win fights that they should not have been forced into in the first place? How does one pay their debt to society for that? Vick and Martha Stewart and two entirely different people. Martha Stewart did not cause any animal any needless suffering. Vick did.
He should not be rewarded for his heartless behavior. He is an evil monster. What a role model he will be. Just like Chris Brown. What is wrong with people? This is a slap in the face to black people who are fighting for equality. It just shows that you can get the same thing as rich, white folks, but it takes money, and in order for some black kids to reach their dreams, they will be out selling drugs, and it will get them killed. The cycle repeats itself.
All of this because of football? How pathetic. I hope Vick breaks his neck and ends up in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. I hate that bastard and he deserves to suffer like he made those dogs suffer.
As a Philadelphian I was not all that happy to have him land here, but now that his is on the team I hope his play does all the talking. Football often offers a chance for redemption. Vick fucked up, pled guilty, served time and here he is. Now let’s see what he does with it.
“Deserving it has nothing to do with it. Being a NFL star isn’t a reward for good behavior…”
“Thank You sir!”
That’s exactly right. I’m sure there are some dog lovers on the NFL board of directors, but at the end of the day, they’re in the BUSINESS to get PAID! Vick’s talent can get them that revenue. They’ve let the justice system reconcile Vick’s crime/punishment so none of his sordid history will stick to them; and PETA nor anyone else will be able to garner enough NFL fans to continue to hang any type of relevant persecution/guilt trip over his head.
Folks love their pastimes, Vick can deliver the goods, and there’s money to be made.
Right or wrong, those factors can easily combine to usurp any moral imperative that you might think should kick in..
“I hope his play does all the talking.”
And I hope that when he gets too tired and starts underperforming, his team owner has him electrocuted or drowned. Fair’s fair.
(End hyperbole. I have no real desire to see Vick murdered.)
Frankly dog fighting shouldn’t be a crime but thats for another day.
Let him play.
Got a problem with that?
ROOT against him.
Besides I thought he plead down to a tax crime.
Like a drug dealer.
OH
and peta can bit my shiny metal ass.
Oliver, I know you’re passionate about politics and football, especially the Redskins. I check in every day and I respect your opinions about both, even though I am an ardent Eagles fan. This bizarre hiring raised issues that lit up my facebook page and my email inbox with unprecedented fire, so I took a departure from my usual subject and wrote about it on my modest blog on political discourse. It got back to politics anyway.
