John C. Dvorak Smears US CIO Vivek Kundra, Should Stick To Being Wrong On Tech

I enjoy Dvorak’s cranky act as a tech pundit, but his latest attempt to whip up noise was a spectacular mistake.

Dvorak is just flat-out wrong — or at least that was the gist of the conversation I just had with Kundra. He called back and said that it was clear that “someone was spinning partial truths.” He welcomed anyone to check with University of Maryland’s University College and said they will find that not only did he graduate from the University College, but also that he was adjunct faculty member. He was an undergraduate at the University of Maryland’s College Park location.

Dvorak couldn’t tell the difference betwen the University Of Maryland @ College Park and the University Of Maryland University College. Pathetic.

John C. Dvorak Wrong About Tech Issue! In other news, water wet, fire hot, etc., etc.

  2. Gil Stein says:

stick to your day job, dvorak!

  3. Is Dvorak one of those few wing-nuts that work in tech?

The difference between those two within Maryland might mean something, but outside Maryland I can see how it could be just a bit confusing.

Same thing with all of the cal state foo’s in California. They mean something in California but people from outside CA are like lol wut is there a difference?

Dvorak is a professional troll. Always has been, always will be. He never admits he was wrong, he never gives an inch, and he’s almost always flat-out wrong, coming off like a cranky old man – but not in the folksy Andy Rooney way.

Hell, he does it with Apple users too – he’ll purposefully hyperbolize something into a major shortcoming of Apple, and you should see the Mac fanboys start to run up the hit counter…he does it for clicks. That’s all.

  6. Nothing wrong with confusion about the two universities, but Dvorak made an accusation without checking.

  7. Kendall says:

Dvorak wrote that he could find no evidence that Kundra had the degrees he claimed to have. He later confirmed the MIS degree and posted it on his site. He still hasn’t found any evidence that Kundra has the BA in biology that he claims to have. Beyond that, it is obvious that Vivek Kundra is supremely unqualified to be our nation’s top computer guy. It’s an obvious and sloppy case of paying back someone who helped you get elected.

  8. debug says:

You must all be blind. Vivek is a thief and how can he get a top secret clearance if he has a criminal record. The American people deserve something better than Vivek. He is a liar and should be fired.

  9. no says:

I don’t see what the big deal is. It’s like confusing Oregon State University with the University of Oregon. Pretty understandable. Anyway, Kundra is clearly unqualified for his job based purely on his own ridiculous statements.

Not to mention, spending $18,000,000 for a Drupal operated site that any middle school kid could put together with a few free weekends.

  10. bandersnatch says:

Vivek Kundra in his own words:

“And think about this, I know there are people on Second Life right now, but imagine a Universe where you have the Star-Trek holodeck where you could literally ask the computer, err, to act or ask questions to get answers. In the same way, if you look at some of these software companies they’ve made it sooo complicated to interact with their technologies. Ah and, err, at the same time the underlying architecture and the platform, it’s almost a chicken and egg question because alot of it was built and architected around bandwidth constraints therefore you had to deploy technologies that were much more complicated in terms of interacting and communicating. Now, as broadband deployment, and more importantly, err, if you look at the megabits-per-second, err, how much, err, how much information can we get through the pipeline is going to be so important and, as new and new software and techologies are being introduced, what you going to see is huuuge-change from how applications are architected from skip-logic to video and much more human ways of interacting with these applications rather than, err, binary or COBOL ways of interacting.”

the guy clearly hasnt a clue. he’s a fraud.

How can person reach such a high level in government and not be a natural citizen? I think John C Dvorak is trying to get the citizens to think and decide if Vivek is the best choice for CIO of the USA. Were there no other candidates? I did not see the job posted on monster.com ;-)

Interesting that this Sunday on Leo Laporte’s TWiT podcast, when discussing Kundra and the Holodeck comments that Kundra made to the US Congress, John Dvorak and Leo pressed Om Malik, supposed Best Friend Forever of Vivek Kundra for ratification that Om thought highly of Kundra’s technical qualifications, that all Om would say was that he does not judge people and that he actually never met Kundra.

Moreover, Malik admitted that he really only knew as much about Kundra’s educational background as was dictated to Malik by an anonymous Whitehouse spokesman.

Seems that Om’s bashing of Dvorak on Om’s blog was a bunch of hot air.
