  1. They need to put up metal detectors for these heat-packing hayseeds.

Or better yet, just get the TSA to set up shop at the door, they’re so into the war on terror (thankfully that term is now obsolete…)

    I can see it now:
You mean this wasn’t the Town Hall Meeting on Gun Control? My bad!

  3. Jay Tea says:

Oh, noes! American citizens exercising their rights! Didn’t we learn our lesson from the seventeen massacres at gun shows last year?

Is it that difficult to trust your fellow citizens to NOT suddenly turn into crazed psychopaths?

I know. Let’s all go to a nice, safe gun-free zone where nothing bad can happen. Somewhere like a health club, or a college campus, or a shopping mall, or a high school…

On the other hand, we wouldn’t want the thugs from the SEIU to feel threatened and intimidated from beating the crap out of those who don’t agree with them, so maybe we should ban citizens from defending themselves.

I’m sorry. Can we still call those who disagree with Obama “citizens?” Or is that out of vogue?

After SEEING them turn into crazed psychopaths, it is pretty difficult to trust them not to do it again.

Wait. Was that a trick question?

Holy mackerel, Mr. Tea. You almost make it sound like the people who didn’t bring guns to all those places were the real killers.

  7. abanterer says:

I eagerly await the day that I walk into a restaurant and find that the booths have bulletproof enclosures for the patron’s convenience.

  8. Jay Tea says:

Sorry about that, Quaker. I meant to point out that the massacres tend to happen in places where, by design, the victims are commanded to be unarmed. In places where the would-be victims are allowed (or, occasionally, encouraged) to be armed, the killers tend to stay away.

Sorry that wasn’t clear enough for you. Hope that’s better.

And Repack… would you feel safer if, instead of regular citizens with guns, it was New Black Panther Party members with billy clubs? I hear there are a few from Philadelphia who suddenly have some free time on their hands, federal charges against them having been dropped…

  9. I meant to point out that the massacres tend to happen in places where, by design, the victims are commanded to be unarmed
Or in areas where we have ludicrous access to weapons.

  10. abanterer says:

I can’t possibly express what a bad idea this would be. A really bad idea.

  11. abanterer says:

The crowd in this instance behaved well… but it would only take one guy with a hair trigger.

So…the women in the aerobics class should have been strapped?

  13. ‘American citizens exercising their rights!’

Sure; the right to pack guns in large crowds of people who get venomously heated during diametrically opposed political confrontations.
    What could go wrong?

‘Is it that difficult to trust your fellow citizens to NOT suddenly turn into crazed psychopaths? ‘

No kidding; no one EVER uses a gun out of anger.

If you’re any indication, then yes.

Oh, noes! American citizens exercising their rights! Didn’t we learn our lesson from the seventeen massacres at gun shows last year?

Yes, I’m sure having people bring guns in areas where high-profile political figures are appearing will result in absolutely nothing going wrong.

  15. CDWard says:

Sorry Jay, but your right to carry guns in public ends where the right of the rest of us not to be threatened by gun toting thugs begins.

  16. Jaim says:

Ah yes, the poor dude who was “beaten” by union thugs:

Check out the videos, they’re pretty funny.

  17. Jaim says:

And I hope the Secret Service and FBI are busy tracking down all the wing-nuts making violent threats against Congress-critters. Lock ‘em all up, throw away the key.

Unfortunately, it does feel like we’re in a situation where another wing-nut is going to carry out Limbaugh and Beck’s orders.

  18. Jay Tea says:

No need to fret, CD. I don’t own a gun. Never have. And no great desire to do so.

Oh, come on, banterer. I bet you could express yourself if you really, really tried.

Seriously, folks… can’t you cite a single precedent where your fears have come to pass?

The vast, vast majority of legal, licensed gun owners feel a tremendous sense of responsibility for their guns, and act accordingly at all times. Why should they forfeit their Constitutional rights — just because you’re wetting yourself over the possibility that something that has not happened in modern history might come to pass?

I’ve been around people who openly carry guns in everyday situations, and the only difference is that they tend to be very, very self-conscious of what happens around the carrying hip.

I guess I understand your concerns. This whole matter devolves to what you think about your fellow citizens. If I saw a significant percentage of my fellow Americans as borderline crazed psychos who are just looking for the slightest excuse to start shooting people at random, just begging for the opportunity to commit mass murder, I’d be just as hysterically frightened as you.

Fortunately for me, I have a bit more faith in my fellow citizens. I trust them every day to not go nuts and kill me. I cross streets, I drive on the highway, I go out in public, and I don’t collapse into hysteria at the sight of an openly-carried gun.

Give it a try some time. You might even survive it.

CUT IT OUT! You’re making the wingers horny!

  20. Jay Tea says:

Durablend, are you saying that you DON’T find the thought of armed women in exercise garb… stimulating?

WHAT THE HELL KIND OF AMERICAN ARE YOU??!!?!?!

“Why should they forfeit their Constitutional rights…”

Carrying a gun to a town hall meeting, or out in public in general, is not a “Constitutional right.” The very fact that state legislatures pass “concealed carry” laws is an implicit acknowledgement of this fact (in other words, if carrying guns in public was protected by the 2nd Amendment, then there would be no need to pass such laws, since such behavior would automatically be legal).

  22. MatanteDodo says:

No guns allowed in a public political meeting = All guns forbidden everywhere
No food allowed in a boutique = Jay starves to death?
