I wonder what the upcoming epic victory in getting 3 Americans in Iran back cost us in international prestige?

The price for 2 Americans is set at a suck-up visit from an ex-President. I doubt Bubba will be enough this time around.

Will Barry himself have to bow before the mullahs this time?

Maybe they’ll settle for Slow Joe the Racist VP. Gaffe-tastic!

  2. Oliver says:

    shorter matt621: I gots nothing.

  3. Bruce says:

So Matt views Carter as a success for not working out the release of Americans in a reasonable manner. There’s been no loss of international prestige and will be none. You want to worry about loss of international prestige? Good, that means you campaigned like hell for Democrats last year, good on you.

  4. El Cid says:

I wonder what the upcoming epic victory in getting 3 Americans in Iran back cost us in international prestige?

I suspect the cost will be nothing. But then, I thought true conservatives were hostile to the notion of caring about the U.S.’ international appearance at all, because, you know, if they don’t automatically like us, f*** ‘em.

  5. matt621 says:

I gots nothing but simple economic incentives.

You get more of the behavior you reward (with a suck-up visit from an ex-President) and less of the behavior you punish.

I understand that the simple facts of life in the real world are difficult to understand for you liberals in your tunnel-visioned “reality-based community,” but there’s no reason you can’t be taught, if you can break through the indoctrination.

Who am I kidding? It’ll never happen. The government nipple is just too comforting.

  6. Jamil says:

@matt621 – at the risk of being too blunt, who gives a fuck?

These women are safe, and though your bias lends you to certain theories, none of us know exactly how this was accomplished. But like I said, who gives a fuck? You see the photo of a mother hugging a husband and daughter she thought she may never see again as recently as a few days ago, and you’re worried about politics?

    Save it.

  7. justadood says:

I’m glad the 2 are back, and Bubba did the kind of work we expect from him–high expectations that deliver in a pinch.

One thing cracked me up–the photo with Bill and Al….Felt like I fell through a timewarp and landed in 2000….. strange feeling…

    “You can’t quarrel with success”

Keep embracing for mediocrity –Go for what you know, bub

  9. SaveFarris says:

Shorter El Cid: “I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.” What is it like to live in a world without consequences?

At the time, we were told that this picture didn’t cost us anything either. 6 months later and the NOKOs were openly defying nuclear treaties. This will be no different.

  10. Wilbur says:

Too bad matt621 and SaveFarris aren’t the president and sec of state. They’ve have that Pig Dong Il under their thumb in no time. Because, you know, Republican foreign policy always works.

6 months later and the NOKOs were openly defying nuclear treaties.

Which, of course, had nothing to do with the fact that six months later GWB was president and was busy unraveling all the progress Clinton had made in NK and elsewhere.

  11. Quaker in a Basement says:

At the time, we were told that this picture didn’t cost us anything either. 6 months later and the NOKOs were openly defying nuclear treaties.

And absolutely nothing of consequence happened during those six months.

    Good work, Farris.

  12. Buzz Killington says:

Kudos to all involved for this. I’ll be interested to learn what changed here versus the previous attempts to get them released. I bet Hillary is peeved, though.

  13. Icruise says:

Leave it to the right to piss on a heartwarming story like this.

  14. Quaker in a Basement says:

What is it like to live in a world without consequences?

What? Were you out of the country for all of the Bush years?

  15. SaveFarris says:

Too bad matt621 and SaveFarris aren’t the president and sec of state. They’ve have that Pig Dong Il under their thumb in no time.

Too bad Bill Clinton isn’t the President. Otherwise, he’d have already captured Osama bin Ladin.

  16. SaveFarris says:

I’ll give Clinton this: he looks like a friggin genius when compared to the White House’s current occupant.

  17. Quaker in a Basement says:

I’ll give Clinton this: he looks like a friggin genius when compared to the White House’s current occupant.

    Our president is Robert Gibbs?

Did not know that. Thanks, Farris.

  18. Duros62 says:

I wonder what the upcoming epic victory in getting 3 Americans in Iran back cost us in international prestige?

Let’s put it this way, asspipe. It WON’T cost us American lives.

    Good enough for you?

I know you and John Bolton have teh sad because you don’t get to blow shit up, but go watch a Micheal Bay movie and you’ll feel better.

  19. Duros62 says:

Too bad Bill Clinton isn’t the President. Otherwise, he’d have already captured Osama bin Ladin.

    I’m sorry, who?
“I don’t really think about him that much.”

  20. SaveFarris says:

shorter Duros: F*#k Japan! F*#k South Korea too!

Whatever happened to consulting with our allies? Remember that?

  21. Duros62 says:

I figured the North Koreans think Clinton is still the President.

  22. Duros62 says:

Whatever happened to consulting with our allies? Remember that?

Oh, boo hoo, all of a sudden that’s important to you?

You think that after “months of secret negotiations” that didn’t come up?

  23. Duros62 says:

Do you honestly think President John McCain could have pulled this off?

  24. Parthenon says:

If a Republican was president right now, you cons would be blathering about how the journalists were released because the Koreans were a-scared of him.

You’ve proven again that you’ll whine about anything that happens under a Democratic president.

  25. Duros62 says:

shorter Duros: F*#k Japan! F*#k South Korea too!
Whatever happened to consulting with our allies? Remember that?

Where did I say anything even close to that?

  26. Duros62 says:

Serioulsy, farris, you expect me to read anything that starts with

Last week, former president Bill Clinton took some time out of his busy dating schedule to have a not so friendly chat with Chris Wallace of Fox News Sunday.

    with anything other than scorn?

No, not fuck japan and South Korea, fuck Chris Wallace, Fox News and the cobag from Real Clear Politics that wrote that fish wrap.

  27. Burn says:

So let me get this straight; Clinton helps to get these two Americans released, and the slobbering dittohead losers aren’t happy about it.

Wow. Just wow. Words fail. I cannot believe some of the shit I have read from the wingnuts about this, they are actually upset that these women have been freed.

  28. What I don’t get out of all of this is, given how Oliver’s stalkers just usually make up bullshit on a daily basis to snipe at Obama about, why 2 journalists being freed pisses them off so much. I mean, they’ll have invented something else to whine about by the end of the day; did 2 journalists getting freed really upset them that much?

  29. calling all toasters says:

    Burn–
They don’t like Clinton, they don’t like journalists, and they don’t like foreign policy without killing. It’s lose-lose-lose!

  30. freD says:

If you cant dazzle them with logic, then baffle them with the mindless nitpickity shout down. All these Derangement Syndromes started with the wingnut obsession with Clinton, a centrist.

  31. freD says:

What I don’t get out of all of this is, given how Oliver’s stalkers just usually make up bullshit on a daily basis to snipe at Obama

Obsessive projection is an ugly thing.

  32. Duros62 says:

they are actually upset that these women have been freed.

They really seem to hate American success all of a sudden. And I for one am not gonna take it anymore.

  33. SaveFarris says:

did 2 journalists getting freed really upset them that much?

When it sets dangerous precedents, absolutely. 16 years ago, Clinton pulled out of Mogadishu. What was hailed at the time as saving the lives of American soliders was seen by some as the ultimate capitulation by the American “paper tiger”.

*THAT’S* why precedents like this are totally unacceptable.

  34. Quaker in a Basement says:

16 years ago, Clinton pulled out of Mogadishu.

And Republicans in Congress tried to warn him it was a big mistake.

    Oh, wait.

  35. And of course, these are the same people who didn’t give a darn about the “dangerous precedent” of a preemptive war that killed 4,000 people for no good reason.

  36. jr says:

“The only thing I like more than killing Arabs and Persians is killing Koreans”-John Bolton

  37. When it sets dangerous precedents, absolutely

I just said that. We understand that you’re annoyed with the horrendous precedent this sets for you of a Democrat accomplishing something good. We just wish you didn’t have to wish for the suffering of two people as a favorable political alternative.

  38. calling all toasters says:

You know what chaps their ass worse than this? When we get information from terror suspects without torture. “Oh, think of the precedent! Some terrorists might think we’re not monsters!”

  39. Michael Over Here says:

Seriously, what the hell is “international prestige” and does freeing reporters actually have any impact on it? From my discussions overseas it seems that preemptive war and our contribution to international economic crisis has done worse things for our “international prestige” than any effect of this event. But those things happened under Bush so they must not count. Bullshit talking point that immediately discredits any future arguments you ever make.

  40. Gorgon says:

Glad they’re back. Just wonder what it’s gonna cost us.

People should know now, DO NOT sneak into NK. And do not put yourself in a situation where you might do so accidentally. These two goofs just put our nation in a *real* bad spot.

  41. canadian bacon says:

I guess there can never be victory without blood letting? The conservatives would love to bring back the Great Temple of Tenochtitlan.

  42. Duros62 says:

What was hailed at the time as saving the lives of American soliders was seen by some as the ultimate capitulation by the American “paper tiger”.

Too bad none of those were Reupblicans.

  43. Duros62 says:

Jaim, I’m dying for some Korean guy-in-the-street perspective. Can you take the pulse of the entire peninsula for me? Thanks.

You seem to be the only one here who can offer an honest opinion of what is going on there.

  44. Duros62 says:

Glad they’re back. Just wonder what it’s gonna cost us.

Asked and answered. DO try to keep up.

  45. Duros62 says:

You can lead a con to water but you can’t make him think.

jr, feel free to use that one.

  46. Burn says:

These two goofs just put our nation in a *real* bad spot.

Those two women have more balls and courage than you will ever know, jerkoff.

  47. Quaker in a Basement says:

That little girl gets her mommy back. Lighten up, you hard-hearted bastards.

  48. Southern Quaker says:

That little girl gets her mommy back. Lighten up, you hard-hearted bastards.

But we didn’t bomb anything. So obviously, we lost. Or something.

  49. ‘Shorter El Cid: “I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.” What is it like to live in a world without consequences?’

Ask your neighborhood GOP supporter; they allowed BushCo to live that fantasy for 8 long years.

How has that worked out for you?

  50. ‘Kudos to all involved for this. I’ll be interested to learn what changed here versus the previous attempts to get them released. I bet Hillary is peeved, though.’

Don’t be so sure she wasn’t instrumental in this Buzz.

  51. ‘Too bad Bill Clinton isn’t the President. Otherwise, he’d have already captured Osama bin Ladin.’

As opposed to the great job Bush and McCain have done in capturing him?

    Jesus.

‘I’ll give Clinton this: he looks like a friggin genius when compared to the White House’s current occupant.’

Riiighhhtttt…..because this all happened without authorization and backroom negotiation from the WH.

    You must be joking.

  52. ‘Whatever happened to consulting with our allies? Remember that?’

Are you insane? Bush doesn’t do this for 8 years, and NOW you’re bitching about it?

  53. ‘*THAT’S* why precedents like this are totally unacceptable.’

You mean like invading a country that didn’t attack you, inciting millions of new jihadists and bankrupting your economy?
