This was inexplicably posted on Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA)’s official Flickr account. Why would any American congressman do something like this?

The GOP embraces the fringe, and the fringe dooms them to failure.

  1. Wait…there’s something wrong with this?

  2. That chick is hot.

  3. freD says:

    I didn’t know Kingston was anti-Bush/Cheney.

  4. Haven’t the Republicans been saying “rip the U.S. Constitution” for years now?

  5. Jay Tea says:

Oliver, you might wanna revise the headline to put the periods in “R.I.P.” My first thought was “tear the Constitution?”

    J.

  6. C says:

Wow… he has a souvenir from the 2000 election!

Jay Tea: I think the headline is appropriate in this case. That’s what they’ve been doing for years.

  7. Gabriel McKee:
The chick in the picture is so proud of herself, it’s her Facebook profile photo:

  8. Burn says:

While not being entirely homely, that girl is far from being hot…unless you’ve had 8 drinks, hadn’t been laid in years, and all the other skags at the bar have left. Then you would perceive her as hot I suppose.

  9. Suicida| says:

    Naah she’s about a 6 – 6.5

About average, but she doesn’t look damaged enough to be worth the time .

    Slow blog day I guess.

  10. Pryme says:

Should they be happy about a T-Shirt that implies that the Constitution is dead?

  11. While not being entirely homely, that girl is far from being hot…unless you’ve had 8 drinks, hadn’t been laid in years, and all the other skags at the bar have left. Then you would perceive her as hot I suppose.”

Chances are she shaves her pitts, and isn’t loose. Probably not your type.

  12. zadura says:

Gaybe, I looked at her and thought she looked more like a man, but maybe that’s your thing.

  13. freD says:

Chances are she shaves her pitts, and isn’t loose. Probably not your type.

She’s also pregnant with her cousin’s child (they got married after the first one) and gives those Tee shirts away at the local strip club where she works (to avoid the military service which might pay for her education).

  14. Burn says:

    Future C Street concubine.

  15. “She’s also pregnant with her cousin’s child (they got married after the first one) and gives those Tee shirts away at the local strip club where she works (to avoid the military service which might pay for her education).”

Haha I understand. You’re more into the Garafalo type. Bad attitude, unattractive, moonbatty. The more abortions, the better. The earth’s overpopulated as is afterall!

  16. Suicida| says:

Naw most inbreeders have missing teeth, just look at Missouri.

  17. freD says:

Actually, I prefer to know more than a snapshot of a face before I make those kind of judgments.

But with the Power of Conservatism, you too can discern personality, skin, ass size, I.Q., inbreeding, anall, with nothing more than a facial snapshot!

    Who’s Garafalo?

  18. jr says:

“the founders didn’t intend for the coloreds to be president”-Jack Kingston

  19. ‘Haha I understand. You’re more into the Garafalo type. Bad attitude, unattractive, moonbatty. The more abortions, the better.’

This woman is posing with a T-shirt (and looks like she’s wearing the same on) that says ‘R.I.P. The US Constitution’ and smiling proudly; and you wanna talk about Janeane Garafalo being moonbatty?

See, this is the main problem with Conservatives; they continue to demonstrate the exact behavior they claim to deplore.

  20. Jesse Ewiak says:

The chick’s cute, but I’ll take noted Obama supporters Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johnannsen over her. :-)

  21. clw8696 says:

Seriously, with all the important issues going on, you’re taking shots a random, unimportant girl in a photo? Does her hotness or lack thereof change the mess our economy is in?

Will someone PLEASE post something INTELLIGENT? (Although Jay Tea’s post, “Oliver, you might wanna revise the headline to put the periods in ‘R.I.P.’ My first thought was ‘tear the Constitution?’” was pretty funny)

  22. eldorado says:

i think she’s cute. probably crazy too, but not in the ‘i forgot to mention my boyfriend’ as you are being booked in to county kind of way that i find irresistible.

  23. Quaker in a Basement says:

Pardon me. Which way back to the blog? I seem to have wandered into the locker room.

  24. Michael Over Here says:

So much stupid in one comment thread. My only conclusion is that Gabriel is actually so stupid that he makes those who post comments around him stupid too, a sort of internet stupidity field.

  25. Jamey says:

The earth’s overpopulated as is afterall!

Well there IS one too many Gabriel McKees.

  26. Doctor Gonzo says:

Well, according to their beloved GWB, the Constitution is “just a goddamned piece of paper” after all. So why shouldn’t the GOP tapdance on its grave

  27. Glen says:

John wayne said ” life is tough. It’s even tougher when your stupid.”

Gabriel must have a really hard life. What a jerk.

  28. Elizabeth says:

The media amazes me with all these articles about Jack Kingston and this “R.I.P the US Constitution” shirt. Seriously, this picture is not that big of a deal. All three articles I’ve read about this picture have had the same accusations about either Jack Kingston hating he US Constitution or sleeping with this young girl. The shirt doesnt mean that Jack Kingston hates the US Constitution; it means the government is basically acting like the Constitution is dead because they arent following it… Everyone would understand that if they would have read the quote from Ronald Reagan that’s on the back of the shirt. “In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.”

  29. Ryan says:

    Elizabeth,
I could not agree more. I’m so happy that someone out there understands the purpose of these shirts. Typical liberal media takes something that is meant to get a point across and makes a personal attack out of it.

  30. MES says:

I take it to mean the Democrats are killing the Constitution and the shirt is prophecying the outcome. For the illiterate R.I.P. means Rest In Peace. With the Dems in charge that is where the Constitution is heading.

  31. Amanda says:

Why would you choose this forum to show the hatred and disrespect that you carry in yourself. If you support Kingston or not, that is your right and opinion. However,do NOT slander the name of an innocent girl because you do not agree with her political beliefs. How dare some of you drag her through the dirt and treat her so disrespectfully. You do not know her. You only show your own ignorance by writing such childish statements.

  32. Amanda says:

After this picture was posted on Jack’s Flickr account, some liberal blogs have taken to personally attacking the constituent who appears with Jack. Ashleigh, a student a Valdosta State University, provided this response to her detractors:

I realize that some controversy has resulted from the blog posting a picture of Congressman Kingston and me, where I presented him a t-shirt that said “R.I.P. The U.S. Constitution”

What those who seek to smear me don’t know, or take the time to find out, is that the back of the shirt is adorned with the words of President Ronald Reagan: “In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem.”

Perhaps one’s perception of the shirt depends on his or her perception of our Constitution. Personally, I believe it is a fundamental document that was written to insure that the government never became greater than the people. When I look at today’s society, the government’s control seems to increasingly outweigh the people’s. I cannot help but feel that the Constitution has been theoretically buried. This design isn’t meant to point fingers, it’s meant to stir an awareness of what we are losing. It’s about the power of the government increasing, while the power of the people decreases.

This shirt is not meant to stir debate regarding which administration did the most to slaughter our Constitution. While we cannot change the past, we do have the present in our hands, right now. This is where change begins.

I must say, in a time where political scandal consists of perjury, adultery, embezzlement…etc., to be caught standing next to a college kid accepting a pro-liberty t-shirt really doesn’t sound so bad. Maybe that’s just me

  33. Alexis says:

I love how the comments here are more worried about a t-shirt than about the real issues that should be under discussion. You want to slander a politician? Fine. You want to slander a young lady who has done nothing to you and who is not here to defend herself? Not fine. What fine and upstanding representatives of your party and political beliefs you are that you assume such ridiculous things about someone you do not even know in an effort to defame.

I agree with Amanda: In an age where political leaders are scandalized with adultery, embezzlement, perjury, and tax evasion – the best you can come up with against Kingston to stir up drama is a photograph holding a t-shirt? Seriously?

I happen to go to the same University as this young lady and have had her in several of my classes- and let me assure you, none of your assumptions about her or the area she is from are true – and I hope she takes you for everything she can.

Way to go on being nothing more than internet trolls. When all else fails and no logical ammunition can further be brought to the discussion: call someone fat, ugly, or a whore. I hope all of you who are attacking this young woman pay yourself on the back for being big tough internet warriors.

  34. [...] Willis, a real activist, i.e. subsidized by a Hungarian billionaire, put up a post on his website saying Congressman Kingston was, in posing with Ashleigh and her t-shirt, “embracing the [...]

  35. Jake says:

You really should all be ashamed of yourselves. Is this what progressive is supposed to be? Trying to find dirt on conservative politicians, and harassing a young woman in the process? Ashleigh is a friend of mine, an intelligent and wonderful person. She doesn’t deserve to be ridiculed by you people. And while I may be more inclined to agree with you on certain political matters than she, I am disgusted by the way she has been treated here and the non-sequiturs that pass for news stories on this blog.

If you want to go after Kingston, look at his voting record. Find a sound bite, try to get a statement from his office. Don’t take a candid moment with a constituent out of context and allow her to be attacked by partisan morons.

This is the kind of article the conservatives aren’t being misleading about when they talk about liberals being unpleasant people.

  36. DocinPA says:

re: “The fringe dooms the GOP to failure”: You might want to take a look at the latest Democracy Corps poll. You know, the one put out by Reich wingers like James Carville and Stan Greenberg.

  37. Kim says:

“Why would any American congressman do something like this?”

Again with the idiot – you know what, never mind. This site is a waste of time.

  38. Dixie says:

I also am a classmate of Ashleigh’s, and while I do not share her conservative views, I have found her to be a very open-minded and intelligent young woman. I applaud her for having the chutzpah to stand behind her convictions, while most Americans merely make bigoted comments from the safety of their computer desks.

  39. Bartholomew J. Simpson says:

It’s obviously a statement about the harm that Barry is doing to this great country by imposing a single payer health care system, the huge debt which is triple that of the combined last 4 years and the complete lack of respect for peaceful demonstrations and the first amendment.

  40. Nick says:

Alexis-dead on. I love these Internet trolls that talk all the smack they want (most of them with handles rather than an actual name) and call someone deplorable names because they disagree with her. I’ll guarantee that all of these people would shut up pretty quickly if they were confronted in person and didn’t have a monitor and keyboard to hide behind.

But go ahead, guys: you’re proving to me that you are truly the biggest and baddest people on the planet. Just do one favor for me, though: take a shower and put on some sunscreen before you crawl out of your caves and into the real world.

  41. kelley says:

Nick- I applaud you! Very well stated! What’s wrong with an american girl following a dream and standing up for what she believes in? We should all take a hint from her and stop sitting back watching this disastrous change occur and just hoping with our fingers crossed that it fixes itself.

  42. Estel Powell says:

I’m just glad to see someone her age getting involved and trying to meet fellow Americans and her Congressman on the health care topic. Some people should learn from her example, get out there and get involved! If you don’t like what she is doing, move and do your part to counter her and QUIT smearing someone that has more initiative than you.

Keep up the great work Ashleigh Kenny.

  43. Mike Dugas says:

Is it the least bit shocking, the attacks on this girl? The Left feels they were successful in their attacks on Palins kids and family so they are copying the attack again. A disgusting, low-life, scum of the earth practice but hey that’s The New and Devolved Democrat Party for you.

  44. John Skookum says:

More rank sexism from the ‘enlightened’ Left. Do they have any real arguments or principles left, or is it just all about the power?

  45. MS says:

Ashleigh was a classmate of mine all through public school and now attends college where I do, She is a great person. All of these personal attacks are very wrong. She is a very open minded person and stood up for what she believes. Its sad that people cannot stand up for what they believe. I am so proud of her and standing up for what she believes. I will be ordering me a shirt and wearing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  46. Ashleigh Kenny says:

I’d like to thank those of you who have supported me on here. This is proof that when people really don’t have a point or a defense, they resort to personal attacks. While they meant to injure, they’ve only started a revolution in my mind and many others. This is only the beginning.

Perhaps Mr. Oliver would like to join me for a cup of tea sometime…

Again, thank you all so much.

  47. Heath Griner says:

If those of you on the Left don’t like what Ashleigh Kenny has to say, why don’t you debate her on ideas instead of attacking her personally? If your ideas have merit, then surely you can defend them without sliming a private citizen who has the same First Amendment rights you do.
What happened to “dissent is the highest form of patriotism,” that mantra you guys loved when protested the War on Terror? Did that fall by the wayside when you no longer had President Bush to attack?
Ashleigh, stay strong. You are a positive role model for young people everywhere.
