This brings up one of the greatest racial injustices in our society today.

Most black men who shave their heads look cool.

Most white men who shave their heads look like serial killers.

Michael Jordan vs. Michael Chiklis.

J. August Richards vs. Bruce Willis.

Samuel L. Jackson vs. Woody Harrelson.

Avery Brooks vs. Howie Mandel.

Sure, there are exceptions. Telly Savalas and Yul Brynner come to mind.

As a white guy who’s getting balder all the time, I deeply, deeply resent this.

While in my 20s, I dated a black woman who would alternate between keeping her hair natural, or using some relaxer. I thought she looked fine either way. Now, the pairing of a black gal with an Indian guy is uncommon, even in a cosmopolitan city like Chicago. I kidded her one time, “We both know the only reason you’re going out with a guy like me is you see your kids in the future with good Indian hair.”

I’ve never been a hair guy as far as length or texture (got a weakness for readheads though).

If it’s neat and combed, that’s good enough for me.

Oliver,

I beg to differ. I am not a Tyler Perry or Steve Harvey fan. However, I will be seeing this film with my daughter. And I haven’t paid to see a movie in a theater for a loooooooong time. I just don’t consider it a good value for my limited money.

I have been trying to get my daughter to stop with the “good hair” comments for almost 12 years now. She has healthy, thick, coarse hair she inherited from her father. I have thin, fly-away, air-dryable hair I inherited from MY father.

I am hoping that Chris Rock does a good job of dispelling the traditional “white” features as “better” meme with this documentary. Or at a minimum provide us with some good laughs.

Yeah, I think that a relatively cheap movie like this may do okay in the Tyler Perry/Steve Harvey demo.

Good on Chris. This looks like a fun movie and one that opens up some interesting questions. I don’t expect it will bring in big box office, though.
