    IMO this is stupid. North Korea wants, above all else, attention that it seems to think will validate it as a nation.

    Not that there are any easy answers, since you do have to negotiate with these thugs, but this is more about Clinton’s ego than it is about viable, long-term answers for peace on the peninsula.

    So I’d be happy if he proves me wrong, but this seems like a really bad move. A Jesse Jackson-esque move, if you will.

  2. According to the NY Times story, President Clinton seems to be doing this with the administration’s blessing and not freelancing on his own. I don’t know that you can really tie the fate of these two women to the larger issue of North Korean disarmament, though.
