The Total Disconnect At NBC News

MSNBC’s First Read:

Perhaps the biggest thing that stood out to us at President Obama’s AARP town hall yesterday was that the White House appears to be losing the message war on health care. How do we know? Just listen to the questions the AARP callers had. Several of them asked about ‘rumors,’ and they also brought up GOP talking points on ‘rationing’ or the government coming to your house to ask how you want to die (!!!).

Nets ignore substance of health care town hall
Nets ignore testimony of cancer patient denied coverage by insurer
Gregory lets McConnell mischaracterize CBO analysis of health bill’s effect on uninsured
On health care reform, networks highlight perceived setbacks far more than progress
Bartiromo falsehood: Health reform bill costs a “trillion dollars”

NBC continues:

The White House doesn’t want to give Glenn Beck a bigger platform or extra oxygen — especially regarding his remark yesterday that the president has “a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture” — so they won’t comment, even off record. Beck, after all, is a radio DJ who somehow ended up getting a national platform to give his opinion on politics. What’s most amazing about this episode is that what Beck said isn’t a fireable or even a SUSPENDABLE offense by his bosses. There was a time when outrageous rants like this would actually cost the ranters their jobs.

Yeah, its crazy to give absolute nutters a platform to spew their… what’s that?

On Today, Michelle Malkin calls Obama a “racial opportunist”

I’ll never understand it when members of the media – especially influential outlets like NBC News – act as if a disembodied entity called “the media” is doing something totally weird and nutty when outlets like NBC are right up front committing the malpractice in question.

    KKKlassy!

Oliver – as a black man, you know how utterly ridiculous it is for Beck to call Obama a “racist”. Beck has never experienced racism in his pathetic life. He has never been looked at with eyes filled with raging hatred, simply because of the color of your skin. He has never been ignored or been given bad service at a restaurant just because of his racial background. He has never been called hateful and hurtful names or made to fear for his well-being simply because of the way he looks. You know how that feels, don’t you? You need to speak out forcefully and call this out as nonsensical bullshit.

    Sam

With all these folks/media being so ‘disconnected’ maybe the real disconnect is with you folks at Oliver Willis.

    QUICKLY, ON THE DOUBLE!!!!
Somebody please bring Sam Simple his fainting couch!!!!

    Nah.

  8. Duros62 says:

    Seriously doubt it, joker.

Oliver – as a black man, you know how utterly ridiculous it is for Beck to call Obama a “racist”.

Had a discussion about the Gates incident with my boss over the weekend. He felt Obama was prejudiced against the cop. I said that I think Obama has a different perspective on race relations than the previous 43 presidents have had.
I also said something that sort of took him by surprise. Every single black person you have ever met has experienced racism at some point in their lives. Every single one. Do you think that that is a fair statement. Oliver? Sam? Randy Brown?

Think about that next time you hear some fat, rich white fuck talk about “reverse racism.”
In America in the 21st century, I think that’s pretty shitty.

  9. joaquin says:

Bring the EXTRA LARGE fainting couch! Duros62 will be sharing it with Sam Simple!

I don’t get it. Please explain in detail what you mean.

  11. maggie says:

“White man’s greed — world in need” Let me see, who said that? Oh Obama’s good friend, Jeremiah Wright –

  12. joaquin says:

You want me to not only explain it, but explain it “in detail”
Sure, I’ll get right on it……………………………*pfffft*

  13. Jorge Chao says:

@Joquain: Firm believer in a post racial America. Also, a firm believer in fairy tales.

But if we’re to be against discrimination we should be against it in all forms. So while I don’t doubt that every black person has experienced some racism at some point I wouldn’t be comfortable using that as a reason to ignore racism in the other direction.

Not saying that every “rich white fuck”’s claim of reverse racism is valid. 99.9% of the time it isn’t. But the 1 in a thousand time shouldn’t be dismissed just because it only happens once in a thousand.

  15. Sam Simple says:

    Joaquin:

It would be you that would need the fainting couch after I smashed your nose flatter than a pancake, you fucking twerp.
I find it pathetic when upper middle class white people allege “racism” when they don’t have a fucking clue what it means or how it feels to be a real victim of discrimination. I’m sure you would wet your pants and cry like a baby were that to really happen. Why don’t you go back to playing your Nintendo, you little weenie, and leave the intellectual discussion to the adults?

    Wouldn’t you, or couldn’t you?

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!”

  18. Duros62 says:

Not saying it should. but it would give you a different perspective if you knew that that prejudice existed for 1000 other people before you. Know what I mean?

Hey, joker, here’s a homework assignment for ya. later on tonight, go down to the “hood” where you live and get something to eat at the local fast-food burger joint. Then come back and tell us how comfortable you were.

What in the world makes you so positive that that isn’t something I do regularly?

Sean, dude, not you. Joaquin. Or Joker, as I refer to him. I’d like to see him go to Wendy’s down in the neighborhood about 1:00am for a chicken sammich to see how he gets treated.

Ah. I was initially puzzled. Thanks for explaining.
