Tennessee’s Paul Stanley Shows Us Those GOP Family Values Again

A Tennessee lawmaker resigned from the state Senate on Tuesday after his extramarital affair with a 22-year-old intern was revealed by an investigation into an extortion case.

‘Due to recent events, I have decided to focus my full attention on my family and resign my Senate seat effective August 10,’ Republican Sen. Paul Stanley wrote in his resignation letter.

Of course, here’s a law Stanley sponsored just a few months ago:

Adoption – Prohibits any individual who is cohabitating in a sexual relationship outside of a marriage that is valid under the constitution and laws of this state from adopting a minor.

Oh those people make me ill. Its almost like the hypocrisy is a “badge of honor” for them. I hope all of this behavior is reflected in the 2010-12 elections as it was in 2006.

  2. rat_bastard says:

on one hand, he’s stepping down… that’s an improvement over some of his peer’s behavior…

  3. paulo says:

To be fair, although she is possibly young enough, I don’t think he was thinking how much he wanted to adopt her.

  4. durablend says:

That’s Paul Stanley (D), for those playing at home

A certain someone will be around to remind us in case we don’t clarify!

    Lets see:

since he’s a state senator they might not mention him at all…

    I’m noticing a bit of a pattern.

  7. Jaim says:

Hmm. Strange how many GOP politicians are having affairs with women instead of men.

  8. SpiderJ says:

Paul Stanley from KISS should be allowed as many extramarital affairs as he wants! He’s the star-eyed lover, for Godsakes.

Oh. Different Paul Stanley. My mistake.

Meanwhile, in Stokes County, North Carolina, the head of the NAACP, is in a bit of a pickle.

Stokes County, NC — The president of the Stokes County chapter of the NAACP was arrested Monday on sex and weapons charges.

Larry Lash, 54, of Walnut Cove is charged with 6 counts of statutory rape, 2 counts of sex offense with certain victims, and 2 counts of first degree sex offense among other sex charges.

Stokes County Sheriff Mike Joyce told WFMY News 2 the case involves three victims. He said at least two of the victims were under the age of 16 when the crimes occurred. Investigators believe the sex acts took place at Lash’s Walnut Cove home over a period of time.

“It’s a sad case,” said Joyce. “You hate it for the victims.”

Lash was taken into custody at his home. During his arrest, investigators found five guns and multiple rounds of ammunition, according to Sheriff Joyce. As a result of the discovery, Lash was also charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

“He had two prior felonies, according to his records,” explained Joyce. “One involved the death of two people back in the mid 70′s, and the other was an incident where in Rockingham County he discharged a weapon into a motor vehicle.”

A magistrate set Lash’s bond at $1.5 million. The Stokes News says that is one of the highest bonds ever set in the county. However, the Stokes County Clerk of Courts does not keep a record of bonds, so there is no way to know for sure.

Additional charges are expected to be filed against Lash within the week.

Anyone care to guess Mr. Lash’s political registration?

Oh, that’s right. Democratic sex scandals are different. Nobody expects them to be anything but scumbags, so it’s acceptable for them to be scumbags.

Hmm… I see most of the trollpack kept from humiliating themselves, but not all of them. One apparently missed the point that this is not about pointing out that one Republican was caught having an affair – it would be absurd as it happens regardless of party – but because it happened to someone who promoted so-called family values condemning exactly what he did. This isn’t a sex scandal. Liberals don’t typically get worked up over a cheating lad. It’s the hypocrisy that gets pointed out here and it’s baffling that some of the wingnuts may have missed it.
You’d have looked less foolish comparing it to Bill Clinton, having an affair with a younger but legal and consenting intern is very similar to the present case… except that Clinton wasn’t trying to force a false notion of moral purity upon others.

  11. Jay Tea says:

Would that be the Bill Clinton of the waggling finger and indignant denials? The Bill Clinton who lied under oath and violated a sexual harassment law he himself had signed into being? The Bill Clinton who was banging an intern young enough to be his daughter while presenting himself as a good husband and father?

Matante, just come clear. The message here is that we don’t get outraged about Democratic scumbags because they don’t promise to not be scumbags.

Republicans, on the other hand, occasionally mention that behaving oneself and acting in a responsible and moral manner might be occasionally appropriate, so they need to be strung up on their crosses…

  12. Yes Jay. In a way, Stanley is a little like Jesus.

  13. Jay Tea says:

August, if I was saying this guy was a martyr, I’d have said “nailed up.” “Strung up” refers to hanging, as in lynch mobs, and the “cross” was a metaphor for his presumed assertion of moral superiority.

Sigh… that’s the problem when you mix metaphors. Sometimes the message itself gets blended.

    J.

  14. occasionally mention that behaving oneself and acting in a responsible and moral manner might be occasionally appropriate
“Occasionally” in this case meaning constantly and neverending repetition.

  15. Duros62 says:

Oh. Different Paul Stanley. My mistake.

To quote another aging 80′s rock star, you took the words right outta my mouth.

if I was saying this guy was a martyr, I’d have said “nailed up.” “Strung up” refers to hanging, as in lynch mobs,

Cuz that’s SOO much better. Thanks for clearing that up Jay.

  16. MatanteDodo says:

I used to think that Jay was trollish but intelligent. On which half do you think I was wrong?
