The handwriting on the birth certificate looks like the Clerk learned the same handwriting style as Pres A.Lincoln.

If I were a Senator from Illinois, I would call up the City Court Clerk of Honolulu, and ask him for a big favor: Could you find my original birth certificate , copy it and mail it to me? Here’s a true story for you. Years ago, I saw a documentary on building of the World Trade Center. They interviewed the architect – a man named Pei.
He explained how he had designed the building so that if there were ever a major structural failure, the building would fall straight down inside a girder framework , thus preventing the buildings from falling over on other buildings and people.
When the “truthers” or “9/11 was no accident” people came along, the first thing they said was that the building looked like charges had been set, because it fell straight down.
The architect is dead, but the film must still be around. Why wasn’t it shown to answer these questions? PBS has it.

When JFK was assassinated there were pictures of him reaching for his throat. The “Oswald was not alone” people pointed to that as evidence that he was shot from two different directions. But pathologists pointed out that there is some of weird reflex that takes place when you are shot in the head. You begin to drown, and reach for your throat.
I was taught by a Red Cross life saving instructor that real evidence that you are drowning is not when you wave your hands in the air, and you yell, “Help! Help!”. Real evidence is when you hold your throat, because you are not breathing anymore.

My point is that these people can be refuted, and should be. They think they are fighting for the Land They Love. Treating them like that Dippy Neighbor Down The Street is not always the best strategy.

People still think Hiss was framed.
People still think FDR was prewarned of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Some people even think there were other people involved in shooting Lincoln.

On the scale of things the United States Congress needs to deal with. Yes it is. It is very minor. If I am insulting the people of Hawaii with that attitude, then I will be just as insulting to the people of Arizona and New Mexico when a minor resolution recognizing it’s 100th anniversary happens in 2012.

As a matter of fact, where was Alaska’s 50th anniversary resolution? Oregon’s 150th anniversary passed in Feburary with nary a peep from Congress.

And if you improve your reading skills, you will notice that I was addressing the issue of the politically contrived “xenophobia” (when I introduced a difficulty with language, not their ethnicity) which sounds like “a fear of life on other planets”.

Birthers with a pre-conceived notion will point to anything that validates their belief. Unfortunately, the rest of us have to suffer while watching it.

That’s true of any believer in nefarious conspiracies. Moon-landing hoax, 9-11 Truthers, Alex Jones’ audience. Anything which disproves the conspiracy is part of the conspiracy because it’s something placed there to throw you off the trail. For example, I think I’d seen someone here on OW.com mention that “of course you’d see contemparary newspaper mentions of Barack’s birth! His mom wanted to establish the lie back then to collect welfare!” or something along those lines.

Honestly, if you’re on the right: Ignore them. Dismiss their claims outright and drive on. What are they going to do? Not donate the $20 they have to spare to your campaign? Throw their support behind a Democrat? Any acknowledgment costs support from the disaffected middle who will be prison-sexed by what President Obama’s administration will wind up doing. Don’t cost yourself that by paying a lick of attention to people who’d vote for Kuncinich if they were Liberal.

And Frank, for what it’s worth, I remember when “conservatism” didn’t have its head completely up its own ass. But then, I do have the advantage of being older than most of the people here.

Each state has a different way to doing things, including how they issue driver’s licenses, marriage certs. and birth certs. So because the certificate looks different from theirs, these birthers jump on that. Cuz when you’re crazy, anything supports your argument.
