GOP Health Care “Plan” Is Status Quo: Pray

12:33 pm EST July 23rd, 2009 | Republicans | 16 Comments

Not only are the Republicans obstructing and making stuff up about health care plan — they’ve got no alternative of their own.

Roy Blount:

“Our bill is never going to get to the floor, so why confuse the focus? We clearly have principles; we could have language, but why start diverting attention from this really bad piece of work they’ve got to whatever we’re offering right now?”

Shorter Roy Blount: We got nothing. The Dems have poopy pants!

Onward, right-wing southern party, onward.

Clearly the American public want something to bitch about and not an alternative sollution. Yeah…thats the ticket.

  2. They are an embarrassment.

  3. Indeed says:

Jesus wouldn’t want health care for the poor anyway.

  4. Buzz Killington says:

While it seems stupid at first glance, the Democrats are pushing to pass the current bill as fast as they possibly can. Resources are limited, so if you must choose between trying to stop the current bill so that alternatives might get explored, or offering a bill that won’t get adequate consideration anyway, only a fool would choose the latter.

Gosh, and here we reality-based thought you wingnuts were trying to stall heath care to create a “Waterloo” for Obama and to “kill” (William “The Bloody” Kristol’s actual word) the bill. But you have the best of intentions. Boy do I feel silly.

Anyone recall Mr. Killington urging similar caution before rushing into an Iraq Invasion? No? Me neither.

  6. Wilbur says:

Republicans have been saying “let’s think about it some more before we do anything rash” for the last forty years. They need someone to kick ‘em in the ass, and Obama is the ass-kicker.

That’s right; it’s not as if an opposition political party is there to offer alternatives to legislation they don’t support. Their role is clearly to just oppose legislation and not to have any ideas of their own.

Thanks for clearing that up Buzz.

I’ve found it fruitless so far to point out the problem with such lines of thought, but what the hell. Since you apparently wanted that extra caution regarding Iraq, does that mean that you’re urging for it now as well? I welcome your support if so. Otherwise your comment subverts its own basis.

That is the exactly first glance that I was explaining the problem with. If you disagree with my point, fine, but at least process what you’re responding to and address it; or at least don’t bother including a quote.

You’re telling me. Did you ever apologize? You still could, you know.

Okay, fair point. Lets’ see what you got.

Since Hillary, conservatives haven’t had enough time to come up with a ideas outside of “status quo”?

  12. freD says:

    Come to think of it…

It might be interesting to go back over the record of the Hillary care opposition to see if any have even appeared to be showing an interest in the situation that has transpired since.

More shorter Roy Blount: “We can’t win so we’re not going to play.”

  14. Jaim says:

“the Democrats are pushing to pass the current bill as fast as they possibly can”

Which is why it won’t go through until Fall at the earliest?

  15. Yeah man the Democrats never obstructed! We don’t have two political parties for a reason! They’re supposed to be the same ideologically and roll over for eachother!

  16. Bruce Henry says:

So that alternatives might get explored? What the fuck are you talking about?

Healthcare was fucked up 16 years ago. What alternatives to the healthcare plan they thwarted then has the GOP advanced in the intervening years?

When they held large Congressional majorities and the Presidency, (while premiums doubled and coverage shrank), what sweeping reforms did they undertake? What sweeping reforms did they even propose?

Talk about GOP alternatives is all wind. If they kill Obamacare, you won’t hear a word from Republicans on healthcare reform for 16 MORE years. And then it will still be, “No.”
