Video: Obama Birthers Vs. Rep. Mike Castle

The best part is the yells from the crowd in approval. It’s almost as if we had liberals working on the right to keep them chasing this b.s. issue in order to distract them from reality.

Kudos to Rep. Mike Castle for not taking the bait. Of course, for that, the GOP nutters will probably primary him and end up electing a Democrat.

Almost. But there’s no need to anyway. Rovesputin was right: They do create their own reality.

    Klassy bunch, those mainstream Republicans.

My favorite part is the call for a mass shout of the Pledge of Allegiance.

My second favorite is how they rise to a shriek at the “UNDER GOD!!!!!!” part.

It’s easy enough to dismiss these people, but just exposing them to the light of day isn’t making them go away.

I’m thoroughly convinced that what drives this movement is their hatred for President Obama’s race.

On the other hand they might just be parroting their saviors, beck hannity and limbaugh.

Who also don’t like Obama’s skin.

Kind of stupid to hate someone for something they have no control over, no?

Indeed. But in our defense, they really are a bunch of rabid whackjobs who represent the mainstream of the Republican Party. From a reality-based perspective, they are entirely dismissible and mock-ready.

    …and/or some wacky false equivalence.

I spent yesterday reading all the comments at Media Matters. These people are like goddamn punching dummies. They always come back, they never give up, no logic works, no facts work. They’re like the terminator or the borg, just relentlessly stupid instead of logical. A good portion of this is racial, but a good portion is also just literal paranoia: the Hawaiian officials are afraid, Obama is “spending millions” to deny this, the Supreme Court and Congress are somehow in on the fix.

We’re going to be dealing with this issue for the rest of Obama’s presidency. By unendingly denying all evidence, the situation is framed as a prove-the-negative, where Obama must somehow prove he wasn’t born in Kenya.

I fully expect the birthers to still be running around in 2017 claiming that Obama never really was legally President – so any bill he signed into law should be declared unconstitutional.

Or maybe they’ll be too busy obsessing about President Solis instead.

  11. It kinda reminds me of the 2000 Selection. Remember the people who say Pres Bush wasn’t re-elected in 2004?

Actually Frank, right-wing hysteria over ACORN is probably a slightly better comparison to the “Bush/Rove stole 2004″ argument, if your trying to score Dems-do-it-too points. The birthers are more akin to the 9/11 truthers, who, while hardly fond of Bush, were scorned by the vast majority of those on the left, and as of late seem to picking up friends on the right. Both groups tend to have more faith in convoluted conspiracies and cover-ups than they do in logical conclusions.

Reading the comments on an infamous wingnut site, it was pathetic how the birthers latched onto an off-hand joke by Rush about Obama’s birth certificate as evidence that the Limbaugh “knows something”, and is just waiting for the right time to spring it.

I hope concern about Obama’s citizenship continues to rile up the Clown Party base, and that every Republican running in a 2010 primary is asked where they stand on the issue. Even better, present them with a petition demanding to see Obama’s birth certificate and insist they sign it.

  15. This isn’t pointed out often enough:

Republicans tried electing foreign born Panamanian John McCain and his secessionist lover Sarah Palin to be President and Vice President.

I understand that many gave foreign born McCain a free pass because of technicalities, but the fact is Republican McCain was born on foreign soil, and I understand that Birthers are following the Right Wing’s First Rule: Rules Are For Other People, but by Birther’s own standards Republican John McCain was NOT eligible to be President.

And the fact that Republican Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin is a secessionist lover who regularly spoke at secessionist meetings makes the right wing birther’s complaints beyond hypocritical but also both bizarre and obscene.

  16. For those that need pictures of Obama’s birth certificate as well as a thorough debunking of the right wing Birther’s fantasies being circulated by racist maggots like CNN’s Lou Dobbs.

  17. I never thought Pres Obama wasn’t a citizen. I just thought it would be delightful if, after January 20, he turned out not to be.
