Media Babies Still Upset HuffPo Called On At Last Press Conference
Tweet
From today’s press gaggle:
MR. GIBBS: I just have one quick announcement before we get started. In the week ahead on Friday that we e-mailed out we discussed the news conference on Wednesday starting at 9:00 p.m. That’s now been moved to 8:00 p.m.
Q Thank you.
Q Thank you very, very much.
MR. GIBBS: Hell, let’s go for 7:00 p.m. — everybody seemed happy with that.
Q Is it going to be rigged?
MR. GIBBS: Is it going to be?
Q Rigged? (Laughter.)
Q The same 14?
Q Are all the reporters going to be told when they’re called on?
MR. GIBBS: They will be given the same instruction that you were for the very first news conference, which I believe you weren’t told, right?
Q No.
MR. GIBBS: Okay. That’s one down and —
Q I didn’t want to be told. I don’t want to be told. And I don’t think you should tell.
MR. GIBBS: And we don’t.
One White House reporter told me privately that he was embarrassed by the MSM’s caterwauling after Huffington Post was called on, but it seems that that’s a minority opinion at best, within the cabal of the press pool.

The American public is far more interesting in knowing whether Mr. Obama wears boxers of briefs than knowing what is taking place in Iran.
Which is why the real, professional, journalistic media ask that sort of question and stay far away from “news.”
Damn bloggers are going to screw up a good thing if they keep prying like that.
I cannot parse this. Is he talking in future tense?
Who was the corporate news weasel who was whining?
Frankly I’d get a kick out of having one (just one) press conference where only bloggers got called:
TPM, HuffPo, ThinkProgress, MediaMatters, and throw in TheModerateVoice, and some right winger blogger for balance.
Of course that would trigger a petulance parade from the corporate media so will likely never happen, still…
… one can hope.
“Which is why the real, professional, journalistic media ask that sort of question and stay far away from ‘news.’”
Bullshit. Alternative media did a much better job of “hard” journalism over the past decade while David Gregory was busy dancing with MC Rove.
@Duros:
In the week ahead on Friday that we e-mailed out we discussed the news conference on Wednesday starting at 9:00 p.m.
On Friday, Mr. Gibbs (referring to himself as “we”) e-mailed a summary of upcoming events titled “The Week Ahead.” In the most recent e-mail, he mentioned that the Wednesday news conference was scheduled to begin at 9 p.m.
Mr. Gibbs goes on to say that the news conference has been rescheduled to begin an hour earlier. This announcement apparently meets with approval from the assembled members of the “press” (presumably because it gives them an extra hour to file their perfunctory coverage of the event before dinner and drinks. Mr. Gibbs makes merry with this response and whimsically proposes advancing the scheduled start time an additional hour.
It puzzled me too. But I’m good at puzzles.

a-HEM!!
And our host?
“And our host?”
Has my vote to be the MediaMatters representative.
I was trying to just list blogs with multiple-contributors (any nominations for right wing blogs? I can’t think of any that don’t make me queasy.).

Don’t give them ideas. I can just see one of the nuts here show up along with the wingnut du jour dentist-slash-lawyer looking for Obama’s birth certificate. Though it might be fun to see them thrown out of the building by security!
Quaker, thanks very much. I guess if The Week Ahead had been in quotes or caps it would have been easier.

Hot Air? That would be a hoot.
