Thank you, Parthenon. I think conservatives are aware enough that they don’t live the lives of “ordinary people”, and they do what they can to distance themselves from the image of the “pointy – headed intellectual.” We could debate how successful they have been.

John Leo suggested that at one time, liberals felt they had an intellectual superiority; conservatives had a moral superiority. Now, says Leo, liberals claim they have both.

Seeking the approbation of the “everyman” is fighting the last war. That ship has sailed. The conservatives are going to have to take the battle to the intellectual arena, as they did in the 1950’s.

I think we are about to witness a colossal failure of the left wing political philosophy. For the conservatives to regain power, they will have to accomplish a few things:

1) Convince the American people that such a failure has occurred;
2) Convince the American people that it did not fail because it wasn’t applied fully or properly;
3) Convince the American people that a policy that leeches off money from the American economy to the Federal government to be returned in politically “helpful” ways cannot substitute for the power of human choice; and
4) The more money there is passing through the Federal government filter, the unhealthier the American economy will be.

If the Republicans can do that, they can regain the White House. If the leader of a third party can do that, they can get enough votes to gain the White House.

Well, I feel the aggrieved party is the one that needs to lay the smack down, so I’d only vote for Obama going Aldrin on the birthers. I’d rather see Kerry smack up the swiftboaters, James Hansen and Al Gore drop kick the denialists, and PZ Myers punch creationists in the nuts…
