There are three types of people who shouldn't be permitted to breed simply because they are guaranteed to pass on the stupid gene:
(1) Moon landing Conspiracy Nuts
(2) People who are dumb enough to believe that Obama is not an American citizen
(3) Glen Beck listeners/viewers

Repack and Parthenon: When you and your liberal pals come down from Mount Olympus and join us mere mortals, you can help us make the world a better place.

I already have changed the world for the better. My buddies and I are responsible for the most important development in bicycling of the 20th century. Ask anyone in the bicycle industry about me. Any. One.

One of my former business associates is now developing freight bikes for coffee farmers in Rwanda so they can move their crops to the market, a project that grew out of the company we started 30 years ago. Check him out.

It’s precisely BECAUSE you and people like you, think that you’re better than everyone else, that we never get things fixed.

Sorry, but I don't share your insecurity and feelings of inferiority. Maybe it's all the people who tell me that I changed their lives for the better that got me over that.

I have said for a long time that very few people change the world, and of those who do, even fewer improve it. What have you done to improve the world that compares with what my friends and I have done for bicycling?

Next time you read it, Duros, here's hoping you actually "get" it. I'll bet you think Dr Sowell grew up in some wealthy middle class black suburb. You have no idea how old he is. He grew up in Harlem in the 1930's, where, he says, people slept on their fire escapes on hot summer nights, and "no one spoke 'Ebonics'". He worked his way through College, before Affirmative Action even existed.
Still laughing?

Thank you, Parthenon. I think conservatives are aware enough that they don't live the lives of "ordinary people", and they do what they can to distance themselves from the image of the "pointy - headed intellectual." We could debate how successful they have been.

John Leo suggested that at one time, liberals felt they had an intellectual superiority; conservatives had a moral superiority. Now, says Leo, liberals claim they have both.

Seeking the approbation of the "everyman" is fighting the last war. That ship has sailed. The conservatives are going to have to take the battle to the intellectual arena, as they did in the 1950's.

I am disturbed by the liberals' adaptation of the role of "Patrician" , or Philosopher - King. I was one of the people who said with President Reagan, "I didn't leave the Democrats - they left me!"

I think we are about to witness a colossal failure of the left wing political philosophy. For the conservatives to regain power, they will have to accomplish a few things:

1) Convince the American people that such a failure has occurred;
2) Convince the American people that it did not fail because it wasn't applied fully or properly;
3) Convince the American people that a policy that leeches off money from the American economy to the Federal government to be returned in politically "helpful" ways cannot substitute for the power of human choice; and
4) The more money there is passing through the Federal government filter, the unhealthier the American economy will be.

If the Republicans can do that, they can regain the White House. If the leader of a third party can do that, they can get enough votes to gain the White House.

So logic suggests, given the times, the USSR would have cried hoax long before a group of psuedo scientific disbelievers.

Okay, listen; I will spot the deniers the first landing. Apollo 11 was fake, sure whatever, to get over on the Ruskies.
What is the point of faking the next 6 missions?

My uncle likes to say there is no way we went because we didn't have the technology. to which I reply "You're absolutely right. We didn't have the technology. But we did it anyway."

Thomas Sowell expressed it perfectly:

Just gets funnier every time I read it.

I don't think of myself as terribly wise or noble, Frank, though I endeavour to gain a bit of both. Conversely I could easily (and just as accurately) claim that the conservative obsession with 'everymen' like Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber owes itself to a dangerous disdain for egg-headed intellectual expertise.

Repack and Parthenon: When you and your liberal pals come down from Mount Olympus and join us mere mortals, you can help us make the world a better place.

It's precisely BECAUSE you and people like you, think that you're better than everyone else, that we never get things fixed.

Thomas Sowell expressed it perfectly:
What is especially disturbing about the political left is that they seem to have no sense of the tragedy of the human condition. Instead, they tend to see the problems of the world as due to other people not being as wise or as noble as themselves.

Let’s hope we can do better in the next 40 years, than we did in the last 40,000 years.

If I recall the Kardashev scale predicts that at our current pace we'll become a type II civilization (mastery over the energy resources of our solar system) around the sixth or seventh millenium, and a type III civilization (mastery over the energy resources of our galaxy) around the eleventh or twelfth millenium.

Assuming we can convince you guys that we have to do something about climate change, that is.

To all the dumbshit moon-conspiracy nuts: if there was no moon landing, NASA wasted 15 years of salary on my father, an engineer in rocket engine testing, and his pension.

My father's salary, blood, sweat and tears (he nearly died during a test on one occasion) and that of thousands of other NASA and subsidiary personnel -- hey, NASA could have saved all that money, those people could have saved decades of their lives for a rigged photo shoot.

But they didn't, you idiot you, they worked their asses off so dumb hillbillies like that one could earn a swat on the nose.

You also forget that Buzz Aldrin served his country in the military, and then as a test pilot before becoming an astronaut, which means he risked his life daily for years on end, even before the moon shot.

To call him a coward, is true cowardice and deserves much more than a pop on the snoot, but I'm happy to see Buzz Aldrin dealt that out, if only to one of the nutcases.

It was 40 Years Ago Today

A man from the United States , on Earth, landed on the Moon.

He said, "One small step for a man, one giant leap for all mankind "

Yet, we are still cave men in furs dancing around trees.

Let's hope we can do better in the next 40 years, than we did in the last 40,000 years.

You have to put this in the context of the time.
The cold war was predominant and both sides were watching each other very closely.
A hollywood type hoax may have fooled a few but any amateur astronomer or ham radio operator would confirm that this was happening outside our atmosphere.
If you remember a few years earlier it was these same amateurs that confirmed "Sputnik".
So logic suggests, given the times, the USSR would have cried hoax long before a group of psuedo scientific disbelievers.

Well, I feel the aggrieved party is the one that needs to lay the smack down, so I'd only vote for Obama going Aldrin on the birthers.
Thanks, Wilbur! I have avoided a sufficient number of troubles, to witness 63 revolutions of the Earth around the Sun.

And yet, I can see the building I was born in out of my window, from an apartment that was here 63 years ago.

O/T, but on the occasion of Nelson Mandela's 91st birthday, South Africa's liberal daily The Mail & Guardian reprints a selection of pro-Mandela posters from the anti-apartheid struggle.

For his part, Mandela urged all South Africans devote 67 minutes that day to serving the community to commemorate the 67 years Mandela spent in the anti-apartheid freedom struggle.

Is it really your birthday, Frank? Mazel tov!

I was going to say wouldn't you (not you, Frank) like to see Obama doing an Aldrin on the health care swiftboaters, the global warming denialists and the birthers?

No, I guess not, not really, but it's fun to fantasize.
