Well howdeee there Missus Sota-mah-yaor!

Good morning, Senator.

Now, I’m a-looking here at your papers and such and I see where you sez, that you’re a wise latin-a.

Well actually Senator, that pull quote misrepresents the full context of what I was saying…

Well I gotta say ma’am, I’m mighty unnerved. Powerful unnerved by the sen-ti-ments you got here on this paper.

Yeah, you tell her boss!

Quiet down, Sen. Graham.

Yessir.

Now, you think, ma’am, with you being a… what is it y’all call yourselves nowadays… a “latina” woman, you can judge white people, such as myself, fairly?

Yeah, who’s gonna stand up for a white fella?

Senator, I pride myself on fidelity to the law.

I don’t know. I. Just. Don’t. Know. We’ll retire for the afternoon to our porches and do some powerful thinking over a nice mint julep. Good day, ma’am.

(thinking to herself)
I am too old for this mess.

When you can’t argue on the merits, this is what you resort to.
Actually, its the GOP who can’t argue on merits and at best warrant caricature.
Shorter Oliver:
Drat, foiled again!
The merits are that Sotomayor has more federal judicial experience than any sc nominee in recent memory, has a solid record of sober and even-handed decisions, and, as an added bonus, would provide an inspiring model of achievement to millions of Latina/os and people from poor backgrounds.
All the R’s have is some out-of-context remarks she made very similar to ones Alito and Scalia made in their hearings, and a case (where Sotomayor did nothing but stand on established precedent) that they think they can use to fire up the Michael Savage demonized-white-male rump of the Republican rump.
You guys look pretty silly on this one. Oliver, thanks for the chuckles.
nothing like a DoH/confirmation hearing mashup. after looking at it now, it actually seems quite natural! nicely done.
GEET-GEET-GEET – roscoe
And it’s Wilbur for the win! Consider yourselves duly SMACKED DOWN, SaveFarris and Matt621. You and your wingnut heroes got nuthin’ and the country knows it.
Next up: Demagoguing immigration reform, followed by a couple years of “why aren’t we making inroads with Latino voters?”
Awesome! (For the record though, Cooter is a Democrat.)
The Republicans on the committee are just trying to give her a hard time, because they KNOW she will be confirmed despite all their faux outrage and posturing.
Watching that queen Linsday Graham (Closeted-SC) try and act like a man yesterday was hysterical. I guess it was his time of the month.
And didn’t you just love Coburn who said “Joo got some splain to do” Har har har, man those wingnuts are SO witty and original. I get it, Ricky Ricardo was Cuban. Puerto Rican, Cuban, Mesican, ah, to the uneducated yokels in the midwest, them thar people is all the same, guh.
I don’t know if Judge Sotomayor can judge white people fairly ( I suspect she cannot), but I am positive that Oliver cannot.
but I am positive that Oliver cannot
Really? Do tell.
Actually, its the GOP who can’t argue on merits and at best warrant caricature.
Indeed. She said something poorly stated once. OH NOES!!!!
This is pretty humorous. Unfortunately, it is not a true representation of what is going on and it seems that the left is once again attempting to resorting to feeding off their biggest trump card ever: racism. It’s the easiest way to silence critics by getting them on the defensive and making the issue about them and not about the person being nominated. There is nothing that any GOP Senator has asked her that is out of line. NOTHING.
Honestly, is there anything Sotomayer has said or actions she has taken in the past that she hasn’t attempted to backtrack on? At best, she has been cleverly deceptive with her answers. At worst, she’s lying her ass off. I’ve watched some of it on C-Span and I can tell you that she has not been that impressive.
I don’t know if Judge Sotomayor can judge white people fairly ( I suspect she cannot),
Good thing that isn’t what a Supreme court Justice is supposed to do.
“Indeed. She said something poorly stated once. OH NOES!!!”
your problem is she said it more than once. Multilevel times actually. So this wasn’t a mere slip of the tongue: it’s what she truly believes.
Multilevel? WTF does that even mean?
it’s what she truly believes.
Yes, in cases of discrimination and/or sexual harrasment, she might come to a different – some would argue better – conclusion that a rich white guy. So? How does that affect her ability to interpret the law or precedents?
Yea, whatever Jay. She’ll be confirmed, and there’s not a goddamn thing you or any other crybaby can do about it. Dickwads like Coburn can ask moronic questions all he wants, but at the end of the day, she’ll be confirmed by 70 votes easy, maybe 75.
So just sit back and watch from the sidelines and whine like the sore loser that you are. And guess what? There will be more SC retirements in the future, so choke on that. Elections have consequences.
The Kilmeadeists don’t want another species on the bench
Actually, Boss Hogg was a pretty smart man:
Mini Biography
Sorrell Booke was born in Buffalo New York in in 1930, the son of a local physician. He found his calling early in life, like most actors, when his family encouraged him to entertain relatives by doing impressions and telling jokes. He went on to study at Yale and Columbia University, and mastered five languages. During the Korean War, Booke worked in counter-intelligence where his lingual talents served him well. His intelligence and subtlety are often overlooked when considering his signature role as Jefferson Davis “Boss” Hogg during his run on “The Dukes of Hazzard” (1979). He died of cancer in 1994 just after his 64th birthday.
I think it’s hilarous when wingnuts cry “RACISM! when we point out their racism. Truly “through the looking glass.”
And BTW, Jay, your party raised lying to an art form. (Two words: Dick Cheney) Every word out of a wingnut’s mouth is a lie, including “integrity” and “honor.” No wonder you accuse the left of the same. It’s called projection, BTW.
When you have truth and facts on your side, you don’t NEED to lie.
I respectfully suggest that you guys get over youselves. Your guy and his airhead running mate LOST THE ELECTION. Obama is President. The Democratic Party is the majority in both the House and Senate (thanks to SENATOR AL FRANKEN, lol).
And after eight years of Bush/Cheney ruining this country (funny how the Little Emperor/Worst President Ever is effectively a nonperson in the Grumpy Old Party–I have yet to meet a single Repug who will admit to voting for him) I intend to grab a big bag of popcorn and enjoy the show.
And Sheriff Rosco played a mean guitar:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcZfBBY6NRQ
They know she’ll be confirmed, but they also know their supporters want to hear them grill her about the ‘Wise Latina’ stuff, and they have to make a good showing of it. Just the same old dog-and-pony.
Also, this post is awesome.

A white Christian male coined the term “Mayberry Machiavelli”?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayberry_Machiavelli
He was mind controlled by those satanic liberals. That’s it! Exorcist! Where’s an exorcist when we need one? None? Okay. Then, uh… he was demonstrating how honest his bosses people were. And free speech amongst conservatives. Yeah, that’s it. Score another for the GOP.
but I am positive that Oliver cannot
Really? Do tell.
Likening Republican Senators to Boss Hogg is scarcely a fair representation. Characterizing nearly all Republicans as racists is scarcely a fair representation.
Likening Republican Senators to Boss Hogg is scarcely a fair representation.
Really? Turn on your tv. I loved the Dukes of Hazzard and seeing Jeff Sessions is like watching a rerun.
Characterizing nearly all Republicans as racists is scarcely a fair representation.
I’ve never said that. What I have said is that the Republican party stokes the fire of racism in order to placate the section of its base that is comprised of racists.
Also, neither of these things proves your initial assertion of bias on my part, almost as if the assertion was extracted from your rectal cavity.
You know what they say, Frank. Not every republicans are racist, but every racist is a republican.
And please, the party of Fox News is hardly in a position to talk about fair.
Likening Republican Senators to Boss Hogg is scarcely a fair representation. Characterizing nearly all Republicans as racists is scarcely a fair representation.
Actually, its the GOP who can’t argue on merits and at best warrant caricature.
After years of Coulter-esqe charicaturizations, this is fair play.
I keep praying for right winger “Jay” and he keeps coming back with increasingly unreal and bizarre pronouncements.
“Jay”: “the left is once again attempting to resorting to feeding off their biggest trump card ever: racism.”
And yet it’s Republicans that have been repeatedly bringing this up for weeks on end. Republicans are using the race card for weeks and just spent hour after hour using the race card during the nomination hearings.
And whose the one complaining about race the most?
Republican Jeff “Ku Klux Klan Supporter” Sessions.
But in “Jay’s” addled mind all of this is the ‘left’s’ fault.
Burn, I never said she wouldn’t be confirmed so please take your red herring elsewhere.
And Sharoney you should learn what projection is before you accuse others of it. You have skill though. You’re like a logical fallacy ninja with what you wrote. You and Burn should team up.
What I have said is that the Republican party stokes the fire of racism in order to placate the section of its base that is comprised of racists.
Unfortunately, too many liberals see EVERYTHING as racist. Question Sotomayer’s qualifications? Racist. Question her about the things she has said which are fair in light of the position she’ll have? Racist. Question her about ANYTHING? Racist.
It’s just unfortunate too many politicians are stupid enough to fall for it instead of telling the accusers to go take a flying f**k at a rolling donut.
OW: What I have said is that the Republican party stokes the fire of racism in order to placate the section of its base that is comprised of racists.
Jay: Unfortunately, too many liberals see EVERYTHING as racist.
Notice that Jay ’s deflecting of into “look over there” territory again. He did not disagree with OW’s statement.
So, just where is the racism in the questioning? What sorts of questions are racist?
Gee, Oliver can’t be calling “racism” based on “they’re white men with Southern accents,” can they?
J.
You’re like a logical fallacy ninja
I SO know what I wanna be when I grow up.
Question Sotomayer’s qualifications? Racist.
Wait, who’s done that? Go ahead, question her qualifications. Good luck with that.
What sorts of questions are racist?
The ones where United States senators mimic Ricky Ricardo. For instance.
The most racist thing about their questions is that their main lines of attack – practically their only lines of attack — come on issues that cast her as a minority threatening the rights of the mythical oppressed white male. The fact that they emphasize these issues over others is deeply, deeply racist.
Oliver, I invoke the John Kerry “botched joke” defense. The article you cited said Sotomayor laughed at it, to boot.
J.
So, Wilbur, if asking her about the times she’s brought up her own ethnicity in relation to her job performance is racist, should she be given a pass on that entire topic?
J.
“As a white male, do you feel you can sit in judgment of non-white non-males?”
Kind of a moronic question, isn’t it? An yet, it’s basically the only question the GOP has.
Good riddance.
And JayT, did Kerry make his ‘botched joke’ at a confirmation hearing for Alito or Roberts? Your comparison is a FAIL. But that’s what I love about you wingnuts. You cannot criticize one of your own when they do something stupid, instead like a child you point your finger elsewhere and scream, But he did it too!
Imagine if a Democratic senator started talking to Alito in a Tony Soprano swagger…imagine the slobbering wingnut outrage at that one.
A “botched joke” like when Trent Lott “joked” about how much better things would have been had Strom Thurmond’s Presidential campaign been successful?
[reposted]
Why was Republican Jeff “KKK” Sessions okay with Republican Sam Alito’s assertion during his Supreme Court nomination hearing that he, Republican Alito, would judge cases based on his gender, religion, and “ethnic background”?
Answer: Republican “Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III is a bigot and a racist.”
Republicans are being represented by Republican Jeff Sessions who was literally a racist Ku Klux Klan supporter (until he found out some of them smoke marijuana, no joke).
Republican Jeff Sessions supported a violent, racist terrorist organization and he’s the neo-face of the Republican Party Leadership.
Republicans better hope that Hispanics aren’t paying attention to Republican’s racist hypocrisies.
And how about this gem fro Sen. Sessions?
“You voted not to reconsider the prior case. You voted to stay with the decision of the circuit. And in fact your vote was the key vote. Had you voted with Judge Cabranes, himself of Puerto Rican ancestry, had you voted with him, you could’ve changed that case.”
Yeah, I thought all you Puerto Ricans were supposed to stick together and think alike and stuff.
As was the vote of each of the judges who voted as Sotomayor did. So just what is his point?
Jay has proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that he and his cohorts are into the Shiny Object school of debate.
And what is it about conservatives and ninja references? Is that supposed to be threatening or something? I’m surprised ol’ Jay didn’t bring up nunchucks. LOL
This is great. Thanks.
So, Wilbur, if asking her about the times she’s brought up her own ethnicity in relation to her job performance is racist, should she be given a pass on that entire topic?
Oh please, Jay. Asking her about it is fine, but once it’s asked and answered you move on to more substantive topics. The R’s are grandstanding and you know it.
The most racist thing about their questions is that their main lines of attack – practically their only lines of attack — come on issues that cast her as a minority threatening the rights of the mythical oppressed white male. The fact that they emphasize these issues over others is deeply, deeply racist.
Right. They should just apologize at this point for even existing.
Apparently, you’re of the mindset that says a Supreme Court Justice should look at a law and say, “Well this law is wrong. It’s unconstitutional. But screw it. The so-called ‘victim’ in this case is a white dude so he can just deal with it.”
So, Wilbur, if asking her about the times she’s brought up her own ethnicity in relation to her job performance is racist, should she be given a pass on that entire topic?
Twice? Out of a, what, 30 year career? I’d say yeah. She gets a pass.
Do you really and truly believe that one justice out of nine is going to effect the balance of power the majority “race” has exerted over the last 300 years in this country? Damn, she is one powerful Latina.
Twice? Out of a, what, 30 year career? I’d say yeah. She gets a pass.
Even if she lies about it?
Wonderful.
Had you voted with Judge Cabranes, himself of Puerto Rican ancestry, had you voted with him, you could’ve changed that case.”
If she had agreed with him, perhaps she would have. Moving on.
Even if she lies about it?
Wonderful.
Oh, just fucking stop it.
Clarence Thomas lied about his sexual harassment. What’s your point?
I’m surprised ol’ Jay didn’t bring up nunchucks. LOL
He has sweet nunchuck skills.
Apparently, you’re of the mindset that says a Supreme Court Justice should look at a law and say, “Well this law is wrong. It’s unconstitutional. But screw it. The so-called ‘victim’ in this case is a white dude so he can just deal with it.”
My thinking is that that would be the minority decision. (HA!)
This is a very very very funny post.
I agree, it does seem that the GOP can’t stop playing the race card, while complaining that Sotomayor is biased.
Clarence Thomas lied about his sexual harassment
Uh, no. Anita Hill lied about sexual harassment. GMAFB with that nonsense.
Anita Hill lied? Because what woman doesn’t want to talk about that sort of harrasment in front of the entire country and a bunch of Senators. Gimme a break.
Uh, no. Anita Hill lied about sexual harassment.
Uh huh. Sure she did. She had soooo much to gain from it.
Jesus, Democrats are obssessed with race. God knows they’ve destroyed the black community with this nonsense. What’s born out of wedlock rate rate with black Americans? Those Democratic policies should have been fantastic.
Of course, they’ll continue to benefit from it politically, by painting all Republicans as racist, because we have a few bad apples. Meanwhile, they still have a person who was a member of the KKK serving in the Senate.
Meanwhile, they still have a person who was a member of the KKK serving in the Senate.
As The Editors once observed: Why is it that the only Dixiecrat wingnuts can’t seem to forgive is the only one who ever apologized?
Right winger “Gabriel McKee” throws a tantrum, forgets that Republican Jeff “KKK Supporter” Sessions’s obsession with race this last week was on full display for the entire country.
Republican Tom Coburn’s odd Puerto Riccan caricature of Sotomayor was on full display.
Republican Lindsey Graham’s use of sexist, anonymous attacks on Sotomayro was on full display.
Republicans are obsessed with race. That’s why Republicans demanded that the right wing activist Supreme Court change the law and find empathy for white male Frank “Sues a Lot” Ricci.
Republicans are just mad that the Republican obsession with race kkkeeps getting pointed out.
…because we have a few bad apples.
Well, who are they? Call them out! Pronto! Let’s hear it, G-Mac! How about a little conviction. Purge your party of the “few bad apples.” And who would they be again?
Those Democratic policies should have been fantastic.
Then why do you suppose black people overwhelmingly vote for Democrats if their policies are so obviously and horribly flawed? On second thought, please don’t answer that.
Because all of the race hustelers are Democrats/left wingers. From Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, to Rev. Wright.
Republicans have had some success with black voters on state levels, but not at the presidential level.
By the way, racism goes both ways. Whites are not the only people capable of being racists.
And I’m not responsible for the way anyone other than myself thinks, or the actions/words of anyone else. The whole personal responsibility thing.
And if you don’t think there are racists on the left, you’re nuts. I’ve seen plenty of them…Lower income folks vote for Democrats..and lower income people are much more likely to be racists…
“News Reference”, judging by your blog you’re not the most balanced/mentally healthly person in the world. So I’m sure ou’ll respond with some wacky over the top drivel.
G-Mac, you never named the “few bad apples” you referenced above? I would think you’d be especially eager to call them out and purge them from the Republican party. So who are they?
How the hell do you “purge” someone from a party? We do have free will and freedom in this country last time I checked.
How the hell do you “purge” someone from a party? We do have free will and freedom in this country last time I checked.
Oh yeah, good point.
So who are the “bad apples”? Maybe you could at least cast some much-needed shame on them.
Right winger “Gabriel McKee” asks “What’s [the] born out of wedlock rate rate” of out of work Republican Governor’s daughters?
Or aren’t we supposed to talk about how Republican’s faith based abstinence nonsense is a failure?
“What’s [the] born out of wedlock rate rate” of New York State Republican Representatives?
Or do you want to play the Name the Republican Who Betrayed Their Wife Game?
You’d lose. Assuming you even had enough time to see the game played all the way out.
You don’t get to hide the Republican Party’s hypocrisies here, we’re paying attention.
It’s sad how the moralizing Republican Hypocrite Party pretends that it’s something it’s not but then expects to be able to point fingers and throw stones.
“Because all of the race hustelers [sic] are” Republicans like Republican Jeff “Ku Klux Klan supporter” Sessions and Republican Strom “Segregationist” Thurmond and Republican Trent “Segregationist supporter” Lott.
Even Hollywood entertainer Ronald Reagan was a race hustler, he had an entire orchestra blowing on dog whistles starting with where he announced his campaign for President.
And then Republican Bush’s race hustling with the Willie Horton ad seemed about as low as you could get until his son’s campaign had used a whisper campaign against Republican McCain’s adopted ‘colored’ child.
But Republican McCain’s campaign used race hustling in more subtle ways, regularly attacking Obama on his otherness, on his foreign name, on his foreign father’s roots.
Republican McCain showed he could get down in the mud with the best of the Republican race hustlers.
“Gee, Oliver can’t be calling “racism” based on “they’re white men with Southern accents,” can they?”
And really big hats.
Jesus Christ “News Reference” go get some fresh air. You’re insane. Do you froth at the mouth and say crazy shit to Republicans in “real life”?
Um, I’ve actually appeared in front of Judge Sotomayor, met her, and read her opinions. And the right wing twerps commenting here (who have done none of these things) are, as is their usual wont, talking out their rear ends.
Gabriel McKee writes: By the way, racism goes both ways. Whites are not the only people capable of being racists.
That’s certainly true. But there isn’t a viable all-black party comparable to the all-white Republican Party in which racist blacks can take refuge. The Democratic Party is a coalition of different ethnic and racial groups in a way that the Republican Party is not.
You can claim that blacks support Democrats because they’ve been hoodwinked by “race hustlers”, but that’s an extremely racist claim. You’re saying that over 90% of black are stupid enough to fall for propaganda from demagogues like Al Sharpton?
I think the simplest interpretation of voting patterns is that most people know where their best interests lie. The rich, the very religious and the white racists know that their interests are in line with the Republican Party. The poor, the secular, and ethnic minorities know that their interests are in line with the Democratic Party. Independents are confused.
Some people vote based on principle, even if it runs against their own self-interest, but I think it’s too small a number to influence elections much. These include libertarians who vote Republican and progressives who vote Democratic.
Oliver, I love you for this
Shorter every right-winger in this thread:
“Pointing out that we’re racist white people is racist!”
Are all Republicans racist? No
Are all racists Republican? No
Is it only the Republicans who have exploited racial resentments for political gain over the last forty years? No
Did the republican party successfully stoke racial resentment in order to build a coalition to the point that it became part of it’s identity? YES
Is the Republican Party now suffering from the perception that it is the party of racial resentment? YES
Is the Republican Party leadership (including the hapless Michael Steele) amazingly obtuse when it comes to countering that perception? YES
Will stomping their feet and proclaiming “We’re not the racists – YOU’RE the racists!” work as an effective strategy for Republicans who resent it being pointed out that stoking racial resentment has finally backfired on the party?
Why of course it will – just yell louder next time.
That was awwesome, OW.
I guess I am one of those dumb racist republicans. You know, those stupid redneck hicks….I am sorry I am not as tolerant as you, I need re-education…
So please explain to me:
a. Why Sotomayor tried to bury the Ricci case.
b. Why Ricci should be denied promotion. In fact, why white males should be discriminated against, and, say, blacks and latinos favored over whites who score higher on standardized tests.
c. Those of you who are white, who support affirmative action, why haven’t you specifically given up whatever ‘white privilege’ you have to a deserving minority? Is it just blue collar guys like Ricci that have pay the price of your misplaced guilt?
Oh and Willis, why do you have to resort to (rather tiresome) caricature? Because we don’t even deserve to have their questions answered? Because the questions are so stupid you they don’t deserve to be taken seriously…or is it you just can’t handle the answers to them?
Well when I see American nativists getting all hot and bothered over the Irish flags flying on St. Patrick’s Day and the Norwegian flags over the local Sons of Norway Hall (big here in the northwest) even on days when it is not Syttende Mae (one of two Norwegian Independence Days) then maybe I will categorize this as something other than racism. Or maybe the day the Republican Party presses for sanctions on Oktoberfest celebrations.
Pat Buchanon and his ilk of ‘white people wrote the Constitution and built America’ folk never quite grasp that 175 years ago tha Irish Catholics were barely conceded to be human by the English-German-Dutch Protestants that ruled this country. There was a day when Bohunk, Hunky, Mick were not endearing any more than Wop or Kike were but instead signs that you were on the other side of the cultural/economic/racial divide from ‘real’ white people.
“No dogs or Irishmen”, thank you very much. Scratch a ‘Reagan Democrat’ and you find some ethnic white that wouldn’t have been allowed to sit in the front parlour back in the day in any respectable Republican household.
__________________________
An interesting factoid I learned in a college survey class on American history.
In the ante-bellum South slave labor by blacks was mostly reserved for the most grueling and demeaning labor but not for the labor that was in fact most dangerous. If you were digging deep ditches or doing mining where they was a constant danger of dirt or rock walls collapsing you hired poor whites. Because if disaster struck you ended up with no capital loss, at worst you paid the widow the days wages. While losing a slave under the same circumstances cost you a lifetime of labor, or more when you considered potential future children.
You would think that southern white workers might have figured out that the guy in the Big House on the Plantation really could give a shit about their welfare and that he was not really doing them any favors by preserving that ‘Right to Work’ status but somehow most of them never quite catch onto the con. ‘What, what! ‘White Trash’ is an insult? I thought it just meant Good Ol’ Boy!” Nope Boss Hogg wears a suit, and you’al wear overalls, and the Boss for one understands the difference.
One correction to that otherwise-awesome post: Not only was the guy who played Cooter a Democrat in real life who actually ran against Newt Gingrich, in the show Cooter was part of the reformist-libertarian Duke faction, opposed to the corrupt, populist Hogg machine.
Really, it sticks out: Ben Jones is one of us in real life, and so was the character he played on the show.
This is fantastic. Point and laugh, point and laugh. Great job, Oliver!
Yeah, guys, you’re totally right — white men have it so fucking hard. Or, to put more eloquently: “Y’all don’t know what it’s like / bein’ male, middle class and white.”
How can anyone possibly believe that conservatives actually somehow have even an emaciated, quivering leg to stand on here?
And what, exactly, is so wrong about claiming that in cases of discrimination against women and minorities, someone who actually has experience belonging to a non-privileged group might possibly have better insight into the situation than some rich white dude? Is this like a “how dare they question our omniscience” kind of thing? Is it that hard to deal with the concept that maybe we ought to allow others’ perspectives into decision-making processes that you have to start slinging around all this “reverse racism” nonsense? Come on.
As The Editors once observed: Why is it that the only Dixiecrat wingnuts can’t seem to forgive is the only one who ever apologized?
Dude, that’s easy.
Because he apologized.
I LOVE BOSS HOGG.
Brilliant!
So who are the “bad apples”? Maybe you could at least cast some much-needed shame on them.
Republicans don’t do shame, you ought’a know ‘at.
You can claim that blacks support Democrats because they’ve been hoodwinked by “race hustlers”, but that’s an extremely racist claim. You’re saying that over 90% of black are stupid enough to fall for propaganda from demagogues like Al Sharpton?
And if that were even close to being true, we would be saying “former President Jesse Jackson and Former President Al Sharpton” now.
Independents are confused.
After this last election, I’d say Independents need to be put down.
When you can’t argue on the merits, this is what you resort to.
it sucks to get beat at your own game, no?
Did Sessions leave out the part where Ricci thanked Alito and Scalia for their no-empathy-whatsoever ruling?
Or is it only appropriate to tie heritage into decisions when the heritage in question is still a target for discrimination?
“I guess I am one of those dumb racist republicans.”
Apparently. But as a tolerant (and seemingly more inteligent) liberal, I’ll help you out.
“a. Why Sotomayor tried to bury the Ricci case.”
Who, other than shrill right-wingers like you, says that she did?
“b. Why Ricci should be denied promotion.”
Because the Civil Rights Act forced the city in question to proactively avoid being discriminatory, and since the test in question had apparently discriminatory results, they threw it out. All of which is explained quite clearly in the ruling itself. You *did* try reading it before asking this question, didn’t you? I mean, you didn’t choose to remain ignorant, did you?
“c. Those of you who are white, who support affirmative action, why haven’t you specifically given up whatever ‘white privilege’ you have to a deserving minority?”
Because I can’t. My white privilege comes from people like you being racist in my favor, and as much as I would like to give up the favoritism from your kind, I can’t. All I can do is support giving minorities a fair chance in spite of you.
There, now you have answers to your questions. Feel better?
This whole conversation is as hilarious as the satire preceding it. The southern strategy still exists, and boy howdy, lemme tell you, it sure sucks being an oppressed white male, don’t it!
Hilarious. As are the Frothy Clueless in this thread. Goood shit.
This posting really captures the gist of what has been going on. The good ol buys are having a great time hazzling this uppity latina.
