I’ll give Michael Steele this little bit of credit: unlike Bush he wasn’t afraid to show up in front of a bunch of black people at the NAACP convention. That said, here’s some of the fun:
* The woman introing him indicates she used to campaign for Republicans… until they went “a little nuts”
* She indicates that when things go bad (the GOP)… people go black (Steele)
* Another woman on stage gamely trying to get more than 5 people in the crowd to clap for Steele
* Steele makes a groaner about him being there for the NAACP to keep its tax exempt status
Well, maybe the first black Imperial Wizard will have better luck.
We need a two party plus system to shake politicians off of their perch and out of the comfort zone in which they dwell. Up until a year ago, I would never have given Michael Steele the time of day, but the fact that an African American of his stature would associate with the GOP drew my curiosity. So I opened my mind and my ears. While I may not agree with everything Steele has to say, I am glad that I had the foresight to at least listen. We can joke about the man, but we should not shut him out or down. And I for one am glad that he took those “baby steps”. Steele is well worth listening to.
Wow, can he connect with his peeps, or what?
Pesonally, I thought it was tasteless for him to appear in Blackface; maybe he shouldn’t have consulted with Ted Danson about what goes over with Black folk.
Some of his best friends are Black. Swear ta God.
jrfunkmeister, not cool. Love ya and all, but draw a line.
Steele was a response to Obama, Palin to Hillary, McCain was supposed to swing the swing voters, and conservative high and mighty ‘moralizers’ are continuously being disgraced. Today’s GOP is all about marketing and FUD. They are the party of nothing. Everybody in that audience would have rather seen genuine inspirational success than a tool in some plutocratic marketing scheme.
They are the party of nothing.
Word.
