Sotomayor: The Optics
Tweet
Keep it up, GOP. Keep it up.

As I’ve said elsewhere, the decision to have Dukes Of Hazzard extras run your party is brilliant. So brilliant.

Your hypocrisy knows no bounds. Congrats.
Caption@ #2:
“Aw crap! Our race-based attacks aren’t working! I’m so confused!’
Your hypocrisy knows no bounds.
Yeah; hypocrisy…uh-huh.
She’ll be confirmed despite the empty posturing of the KKK’s favorite senator.
I agree with Yglesias.
Heck, I’d go in for $50 for that, at least!
Republican Jeff “KKK” Sessions is the current face of the Republican Party attacking a Hispanic.
Farris, were any of the objections to Estrada’s nomination based on his ethnic background?
I still don’t get why the Republics oppose her. She’s got more experience than the entire sitting Supreme Court combined. She’s a woman and a minority that heretofore has not been represented by the court. What is the point of opposition? That she isn’t a coporate weasel like the other 5?
!
Remember when white male Republican Sam Alito said that as a Supreme Court Justice he would take his “ethnic background” and his religion and his gender “in to account” for his judicial rulings?
And all of the Republicans voted for Sam Alito, didn’t they?
Republican’s First Rule: Rules Are For Other People
Meanwhile House Judiciary Chairman Conyer’s wife is pleading guilty to felony charges.
Please tell me who’s running the LiDem party. HA HA HA!
SouthernQ,
why yes, yes it was.
Willis isn’t being a hypocrite……………….just racist.
Newsy can’t see the difference between Alito saying his background might affect his reasoning vs. Sotomayor saying her background gives her a *BETTER* ability to reason.
“Maria”-Mike Huckabee
Newsy can’t see the difference between Alito saying his background might affect his reasoning for any court case vs. Sotomayor saying her background gives her a *BETTER* ability to reason in cases of gender and race.
Fixed.
Wonderful Pryme, except that’s not what she said.
Part of the quote of Sotomayor is constantly cut off to make it look worse.
I’m assuming that a more experienced Doctor makes better decisions than a Doctor that doesn’t have that experience.
I assume that a more experienced mechanic makes better decisions than a mechanic without those experiences.
I assume a military General with more experience than a Private without those experiences makes better judgements.
I understand that “experience” and “better” judgement are alien concepts to the right wing who assumes that only ignorant racist white males like Republican Jeff “KKK” Sessions know what they are talking about.
After all, Republican Jeff “KKK” Sessions clearly stated that a 5-4 decision was magically a 9-0 decision based on right wing Orwellian magic.
Clearly right wing magic shows it strength by warping basic math and mangling simple facts.
After all, in right wing world, Ignorance IS Strength.
Then why don’t you reproduce the “full” quote Newsy instead if conjuring up false equivalence. It’s not like you don’t know how…
Only even if they were one and the same quotes, which they’re not, Alito didn’t make the same comment seven times and then claim, apparently all seven times, that it was a rhetorical flourish that fell flat.
Good grief.
Waaaa waaaaa waaaaaa! Geez, do you wingnut crybabies ever stop whining? Just shut your fucking mouths already.
She’ll be confirmed despite what the asshole from Alabamee thinks. You can just feel his contempt for her, doesn’t she know her place in society?
Too bad for him and his toothless constituents…I guess it really upsets these idiot crackers in Alabammee that some ‘mesican’ is going to be on the SC.
Get used to it, losers. She’ll be on the bench a long time and there will be more SC retirements soon, so save some of your slobbering, impotent rage for the other rounds. Like it matters, because elections have consequences, remember?
Republican Alito’s comments were more explicit than Sotomayors.
White male Republican Sam Alito specifically stated at his Supreme Court nomination hearing that he would take his “ethnic background” into consideration for all of his cases.
Republican Alito specifically stated at his Supreme Court nomination hearing that he would take his “religion” into consideration for all of his cases.
Republican Alito specifically stated at his Supreme Court nomination hearing that he would take his “gender” into consideration for all of his cases.
And all Republicans Senators voted for Republican Alito for Supreme Court Justice.
For Republicans, a white male Republican making such statements get a free pass, but less offensive statements by someone who isn’t a Republican (white male), well, that’s against the rules…
And everyone knows that the Republican’s First Rule is that Rules Are For Other People
Thank you Newsy for proving my point: you didn’t quote Sotomayor because if you did, it would decimate your already tedious argument.
I was wondering what ever happened to Henry Gibson. Does he still do the poetry-and-giant-flower gag he used to do every week on Laugh In?
Wow, Burned, I thought ‘cracker’ was considered an ethnic slur. Careful, or Chris Parry might read this and write an article in the Vancouver Sun about this being a racist blog.
Or do whites have to call each other that term in an endearing way for it to officially become an offensive slur if a black person says it?
Wonderful Pryme, except that’s not what she said.
That’s exactly what she said, Farris. Stop trying to curve time and space.
“Sotomayor was nominated to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York by President George H. W. Bush in 1991 and confirmed in 1992.”
If you denigrate Sotomayor you denigrate Dubya’s dad which means you denigrate Dubya who’s in league wit’ ‘em good ol’ boys who denigrate Sotomayor.
Face it zygote zombies, she’s in.
We know she’s in, freD. We also know that if any Republican politician or any Supreme Court nominee appointed by a Republican presidenthad the same record and background and had said the same thing she did, not once but seven times, you guys wouldn’t shut up about it till the day they closed the lid on your coffins.
Media Matters would be doing the same somersaults, back flips and contortions to bitch about her as they are now doing to defend her.
Actually freD, all that proves is that Republucans don’t play politics when it comes to the Judiciary.
all that proves is that Republucans don’t play politics when it comes to the Judiciary
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Sessions makes me want to rip the radio right out of my dashboard, as does the absence of any criticism of his hypocrisy by our beloved MSM, and the evident reluctance of any high profile Dems to take this cornpone asshat to task.
The silence of the Democrats in the face of all this “leftist” talk is liable to set a media standard of what (Sotomayor) is BARELY acceptable in a Supreme Court nominee, even though she’s probably a little more conservative than Souter. If President Obama nominates a genuine progressive next time, the airwaves and newsprint will be filled with howling about how unsuitably liberal that person is.
Judge Sotomayor will make the SCOTUS less activist.
That’s a good thing.
Dennis,
I see your wise Latina:

SaveFarris,
What Oliver said.
The (fictional) Dukes of Hazzard were from (also fictional) Hazzard County, Georgia. Not Alabama.
I’ve been cringing with embarrassment for the last 2 days.
All they can find is one out of context quote for one supreme court justice wannabe. But I can find hundreds of idiotic quotes and gaffes from the most powerful man in the world for 8 years.
