Slow Your Roll NFL Pundits

MSNBC has a list of top 5 NFL MVP candidates. Here’s a crazy idea: Could you at least allow training camp to get going before you anoint someone an MVP candidate? As a long suffering fan of a team that is something like the ’72 Dolphins of the offseason, I can tell you first hand that what you see in July rarely resembles what will matter in January (Cardinals in the Superbowl? I’m still trying to figure out how that happened).
Well, while I’m at it, how about I make a prediction for the Redskins this coming season?
Okay.
12-4. Yeah, I said it. 12-4. Be aware that in the ten years or so I’ve been making NFL predictions for the ‘Skins that I have never been correct, but like Dick Morris I still keep hauling out predictions anyway. The Washington Redskins will go 12-4 or better in the 2009 NFL season.

Here is my problem with 12-4. I think you guys improved in the off season. In the defence department. Your corners have to step it up though because they are the weak point of the defence. I think Haynesworth was a great buy and I am not normally high on Texas players(overrated) but Orakpo will help in the sack department. The main issue is clearly the smear job of Jason Campbell. I have said before he is overrated and a Auburn alum at that(sorry to hate), but he wasn’t a horrible QB. The public dissing was pretty classless because now you have a disgruntled QB and no clear alternative.
12-4 in the NFC East? The Skins also play San Diego, Carolina and Atlanta this year. I don’t see 12 wins with that schedule.
8-7-1.
…a team that is something like the ‘72 Dolphins of the offseason
Oliver wins the Internet today.
12-4? Somebody had some Bailey’s in his coffee this morning… Unless their defense can give them a TD every game, they’re going to struggle to win 8. Their draft was a good start towards a strong 2010 or 2011 season, but the offense looks to be even less productive this year than last.
In spite of the defensive upgrades, all depends on Jason, I think. 11-5 or so if he has a good year, 7-9 or so if he doesn’t. Hopefully all those receivers they took last year get it together also.
Also, I think MSNBC does that because people just like to read about the NFL. When there’s no news they’ve gotta use their ink on something. Also sports columnists will sometimes go back and look at their previous predictions and show how wrong and unqualified they are, which is kind of fun.
Chad Johnson should be able to twitter during games, damnit
I think Jason Campbell will have a good season because Snyder & Co dissed him so much this offseason and it’s the last year of his contract. And if not, Colt Brennan will be playing and everyone here loves him. Because his name is Colt.
Colt Brennan is a pretty awesome name, no one this side of Magnus ver Magnusson would dispute that. But Brennan’s just a poor man’s Timmy Chang.
12-4…for the Redskins? You’re crazier than I thought.
Never been right, but how often have you underestimated the ‘Skins?
