Natalie Portman returns to the sci-fi fold to star as Jane Foster in the new Thor movie. Marvel Studios announced Tuesday that the Academy Award-nominated actress will play the earthling love interest to superheroic exile Thor (Chris Hemsworth). Producers describe the character as an “updated” take on the sweet Nurse Foster character featured in early issues of the comic book series.

Dried, chipped, reconstituted, and extruded movie-like product… yum.
I’m cautiously optimistic about this movie. I think Marvel will work hard to make these films hits, because they need people interested in The Avengers, which could be the costliest movie of all time when it comes out.
The starpower in that movie will be HUGE.
Insert “find my hammer” joke here.
Insert “insert” joke here.
I quibble with putting the fantasy story of an Asgardian God under the “sci-fi” genre….
At least the Hulk has the tenuous “sci-fi” explanation of “Gamma Rays” and Iron-Man has the inventive “sci-fi” explanation of “repulsor technology”.
I am in love and will be seeing this fo sho.
I love me some Natalie, but she has a weak track record in sci-fi (V for Vendetta, Star Wars).
Here’s hoping it’s good though.
I thought she gave a solid performance in V. Not so much in Star Wars. Not like there was much for her to do in the last one except die convincingly.
Meh – I don’t see what some guys see in Portman. She’s cute, but I think she is barely five feet tall in snow boots. If you’re looking for hot Israeli chicks, then D-List Donna Feldman is the way to go.
