During Bush Era, CIA Lied To Congress
Tweet

And this is why President Obama is wrong when he so quickly wants to turn the page on the abuse of this country by George W. Bush and Co.
Central Intelligence Agency Director Leon E. Panetta has told lawmakers that CIA officials misled Congress ‘for a number of years’ since 2001, according to a letter released Wednesday from seven Democratic lawmakers.
The lawmakers say the CIA also withheld information about unspecified ‘significant actions.’
The letter didn’t identify when Mr. Panetta made the statements or to what they referred.
‘This is similar to other deceptions of which we are aware from other recent periods,’ the letter continued.

Who could have predicted…?
Another shocker; lies from the halls of power during the Dumbya era.
In a related story; the sun rises in the East and sets in the West.
Granted, it’s pretty much the CIA’s job to lie. But also to keep us safe, which it failed to do under Bush on 9/11.
But also to keep us safe, which it failed to do under Bush on 9/11.
“Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the U.S.”
The burden of proof on this issue is entirely on the side of Congress. Saying “he said…” is not even close to sufficient. Until actual evidence comes out to back up Congress, which I hope happens if these claims are true, the only reason to believe them is because you simply want to.
“Until actual evidence comes out to back up” Republican Bush’s assertion that there was weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, it must ultimately be concluded that Republican Bush lied US into war.
A war in which Republican Bush committed war crimes.
A war in which Republican Bush allowed his crony friends to profit from even while American troops were given inadequate numbers to accomplish their mission in a timely manner.
A war in which Republican Bush demanded tax cuts for the wealthiest (his “base”) even while Republican Bush failed to provide American troops with proper body armor, armored vehicles, and adequate medical facilities.
Yes, you’ve established that everything a Republican ever does is pure evil. You can just say that from now on and save everyone a lot of time. Not a single bit of that comment was on topic.
I’m pretty sure they lied during the Clinton era and they are lying now.
It’s what they do.
Right winger “Buzz Killington”: “Yes, you’ve established that everything a Republican ever does is pure evil.”
Well I’ve heard it said that Republican Bush was helpful in addressing the AIDS epidemic in Africa, or are you suggesting he had ulterior motives?
Perhaps he was paying someone off for the false intelligence reports that Republican President Bush used to falsely assert that Iraq was getting uranium yellowcake from Niger?
Are you suggesting that the whole AIDS aid was part of a giant cover to help Republican President Bush lie US into the Iraq War?
Hmmmm… As you say, “The burden of proof on this issue is entirely on the side of” President….
Oh, wait that only happens when it’s a Democratic President because everyone knows: Republican’s First Rule is that Rules Are For Other People
I want to be sure about this : You’re all saying that the CIA lied to Congress during the Bush administration, and only during the Bush administration?
Because if not, then I can only *yawn* between “who” and “cares”?
Callous right wing extremist “Frank DiSalle” asks ““who” and “cares”?”
Who cares if the CIA lied to Congress during the Republican Bush administration?
The families, friends, and loved ones of the 4,321 American troops that were killed in the Republican Iraq War Lie.
For starters.
I repeat I want to be sure about this : You’re all saying that the CIA lied to Congress during the Bush administration, and only during the Bush administration?
Because if not, then I can only *yawn* between “who” and “cares”?
Now, is my meaning clear?
The CIA has undoubtedly lied to many administrations, probably even in its prototype as the OSS. But, of course, now that we suspect that they may have lied during the Bush administration {about what, we are not yet sure}, now’s the time to fetch the pitchforks, torches and axe handles and head for the old mill.
Hardly a time for pitchforks or torches but it does kinda smother the vapors over the “what did Nancy Pelosi know about torture and when did she know it???!!1!1eleventy?!!” meme.
Funny that.
Is right winger “Frank DiSalle” asserting that anything said by the CIA can’t be trusted even by the “Gang of Eight” on the Intelligence Committee that it’s supposed to factually brief?
As “PD100″ points out, the right wing screamed when Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi indicated that the CIA hadn’t been honest with her.
But now that that convenient line of attack isn’t useful, right winger “Frank DiSalle” thinks the increasingly credible accusations that the CIA specifically lied to Congress is ‘boring’.
Moreover, the current report says that the CIA under Republican President Bush’s leadership had been lying to Congress throughout Republican Bush’s term despite the CIA’s legal obligations to keep the Congress informed as part of the Legislative Branch’s Constitutional oversight.
That’s extremely important.
No, “News” “Observer” , I am asserting that bureaucrats cover their asses when they testify before Congress, even if they have to stretch the truth.
I am further asserting that this is a grandstand play by Speaker Pelosi to cover tacit approval of waterboarding. If we open the door to putting former Presidents on trial, we will get what we got from 1996 to 2000 – a Presidency hobbled by a never ending investigation. Not this time, as salivating Democrats chase skittish Republicans, but the next time Republicans return to power.
And if you think the Republicans will never return to power, spend the next few years trying to get Pres Bush into the stocks, and watch what happens.
And I’m saying that Republican President Bush was in charge of the CIA when it lied to Congress.
And you are threatening that if Republican President Bush’s clearly illegal actions are even investigated that the Republicans will do the same the next time “Republicans return to power” as an act of revenge.
Well you’ve admitted it: Republicans are all lawless, vengeful people.
As opposed to the Democrats, who are all vengeful, lawless people.
Nah, only 10% to 30% of Dems are like that.
And I don’t think that all Republicans are lawless, vengeful people, only 90% to 98%, tops.
As for the tiny number of Dems like that, well, many of those are former Republicans….
The Democratic Party is more appropriately called the “Moderate Republican Party with a (tiny) Liberal Streak.”
Republicans are demanding that their leaders war crimes, torture crimes, and massive illegal surveillance be ignored.
That’s a big cheek getting smacked hard with the arrogant expectation that you get to smack the other cheek…
News Reference: And I’m saying that Republican President Bush was in charge of the CIA when it lied to Congress.
I think you mean Vice President Cheney was in charge of the CIA, seeing as how he was giving them orders to lie.
