The Evil Eye, And Other Right Wing Stupidity

Dear Wingnuts,

How it should work is this: You present ideas, and we present ideas, and the American people decide – as they have in the past – which bunch of ideas they want to go with. Sometimes they pick your ideas, sometimes they pick ours. While I clearly think ours are better, we don’t have all the answers. We’ve prospered over the last 200+ years on that exchange of ideas. But on occasion (1964, 2008) you guys lose so badly that you go nutso. When we get beaten we tend to beat up on ourselves, wondering why America doesn’t like us. When you guys lose we get stories about hidden communism in flouridated water or serious sounding analysis about the President giving people the evil eye.

That is the hallmark of crazy, and while it helps my side of the fight in the short term, in the long term its just not a good thing to have one party be the ruling party of sanity while the other is presenting the evil eye as a serious policy position.

Love,
Oliver

That link was bat shit insane. My mind needs an aenima after being filled with such crappy ideas from right wing tards.

  2. Jaim says:

Republicans. You just can’t make this shit up any longer.

Did you hear that Obama is black?

  3. Jay says:

Like I said to Oliver on Twitter, it’s odd that he gets in a lather over something frigging Drudge writes up, but nary a peep about Vanity Fair going into the sewer to do a US Weekly type “Sarah Palin is white trash” story, repeating shit that everybody already knows and salivating over new bits and pieces from (anonymous mind you) McCain campaign flunkies who are still hilariously trying to blame Palin for their loss.

If the left is all about the IDEAS and Sarah Palin is such an idiot and non-threat, why then is the left and Democrats still going after this woman with reckless abandon?

    It’s pretty pathetic.

It’s not like Vanity Fair is a bedrock of investigative journalism, but resorting to writing pieces that belong in magazines middle-aged women buy at the checkout line at the grocery store is lame.

Yet Oliver worried about some goofy Drudge quip.

  4. Amused Observer says:

    LOL,
He’s as much white as he is black, genetically speaking.

  5. Jay says:

    LOL,
He’s as much white as he is black, genetically speaking.

    RACIST!!

  6. Jaim says:

“If the left is all about the IDEAS and Sarah Palin is such an idiot and non-threat, why then is the left and Democrats still going after this woman with reckless abandon?”

Sarah Palin is a trainwreck of a human being and she likes to insert herself into the public eye. Making fun of her pathetic intellect and speaking abilities is perfectly natural, in the way that people go to the zoo to see monkeys fling poop at each other.

The fact that she’s going to run for the GOP nomination in 2012 is just icing on the ridiculous, hilarious cake that is the modern conservative movement.

“He’s as much white as he is black, genetically speaking.”

Genetically speaking, there’s no difference between whites and blacks. But thanks for making your bigotry obvious to everyone yet again.

Don’t you have a Klan rally to be at or something?

  7. Amused Observer says:

It’s not odd, Oliver is a propagandist, literally a political tool. You’ll see Republican scandals here but not Democrat’s. Where is the report on Conyers crooked wife? Or Wright’s latest remarks about “the Jooz” Or Chris Dodd’s mortgage? etc. etc. etc.

Drudge more or less reports on what is currently happening. He is a throwback to old time journalism when it actually meant something. He may have his biases but he reports on what’s hot. He has good sources and for a 1 man show, not including some staff, he does pretty well against the big boys. He’s making money and they’re going out of business. Oliver doesn’t pretend to be a journalist, which is a good thing.

Now I know the standerd liberal line is that there is no such thing as a liberal bias in the media. For a group that has latched onto the label of being reality based that is a pretty good indicator of how seriously to take that claim. Not having a grasp of reality is probably thier greatest weakness.

The smear tactics on Palin are unreal. Give Obama’s girls a couple of years and then talk about Michelle’s slutty fashion sense and joke around about those girls being ho’s. See if that sort of thing is still ok? Do you think Oliver would defend the comedian who did that? Of course not.

  8. Jaim says:

“It’s not odd, Oliver is a propagandist, literally a political tool.”

And you’re one of the most frequent posters at his site.

What does that make you? Other than really fucking stupid, which we already knew?

  9. Amused Observer says:

    LOL,
A breath of fresh air, a ray of golden sunshine illuminating the dank recesses of the cramped, soiled, hypocritical liberal mind.

  10. The South Carolina Republican Party says:

He’s as much white as he is black, genetically speaking.

    We beg to differ.

  11. Crusty Dem says:

    LOL, a troll. Duh…

  12. Frank DiSalle says:

Mal’ occhio, indeed!I for one am glad to hear of those rare instances where Pres. Obama exhibits some humanity. Sometimes I think he won’t show us his Birth Certificate , not because he wasn’t born in the US, but because he wasn’t born at all. Any minute, I except him to spin all over the room, spitting out white goo.

  13. Jay Tea says:

Anyway, there’s a flaw with the article. I recall Obama giving the same hairy eyeball to Joe Biden when Biden cracked wise at Chief Justice Roberts’ expense over the botched oath of office.

Biden, of course, being neither foreign or a leader…

    J.

  14. Jaim says:

It’s delightful to see the GOP political strategy take shape before our very eyes. Make up stupid things about Obama, then have trolls complain about the liberal sites they troll on, then get your asses kicked yet again in 2010 and 2012.

You guys are mega-geniuses. Your strategery is without parallel in known human history.

  15. Amused Observer says:

    Uh Jaim,
Better double check that genetic thing, as usual you don’t have a clue about what you are talking about. Phenotype, genotype, heriditary, genetics, these are either new words for you or you don’t understand thier meaning.

Incidently why do you think Obama is black instead of white? Or is he blite? I prefer whack.

  16. Jaim says:

I’m not race-obsessed like you AO. I mean, you’re in your 90’s and you’ll be dead soon, so we’ll have one less racist to worry about. And that’s a good thing.

Personally, I think of him as “President of the United States.” As do reality-based Americans. Come out of the bunker and try breathing our air some time.

  17. Amused Observer says:

“Did you hear that Obama is black?”

    Those words look familiar?

It’s a good thing you’re not trying to teach those Korean kids science.

  18. Jaim says:

    Science is on Thursdays.

    When are your Klan rallies?

  19. Tyro says:

See, right-wingers, this is what happens to you when your joke of a party manages to lack any ability to government or come up with any coherent policies of any value for a generation: we see those responsible for faxing out the talking -points-of-the-day start to obsess over the fact that a black man has the audacity to look them in the eye. You’ve never been able to accept the idea of a Democrat coming to power. Well, after putting forward a bunch of mental and moral midgets as “leaders” (seriously? GW Bush? Sarah Palin? These people are jokes), you’re apoplectic that a Democrat is now in the White House and unable to deal with that simple fact.

Maybe, Jay, Frank, Amused, when you learn to become better people who might, at some point, be able to engage with Democrats as equals rather than ankle-biting chihuahua’s, you will more be able to more graciously handle the reality of an Obama presidency. For now, you all look like juvenile fools. Go back to obsessing over drudge and forwarding those stupid right-wing e-mails and mindlessly repeating talking points because you think it makes you sound “informed.” You’re all a bunch of ignoramuses who haven’t made an intelligent, politically informed argument in your lives and have confused your obsession with talk radio for genuine curiosity. You all have done nothing but repeat talking points you heard off Drudge and allowed the last 8 years to rot your brains. Wasted, wasted lives, all of you. All I can say from following the Republicans lately is that they are ignorant fools, and this latest obsession from Time’s “blog of the year” is more evidence of that.

Jay, your problem is that you’re a spokesman for a dead movement and an ideology that thrives on ignorance and stupidity. I have to ask— what the hell is wrong with all of you people?

  20. Oliver says:

I write about what interests me and I write about real scandals – from both parties, including about William Jefferson or John Edwards. What I don’t do is write about the b.s. Republican scandal of the day that turns out to be the latest Whitewater – aka a big ole nothingburger.

As far as Sarah Palin, I’ll keep writing about her as long as the GOP keeps pushing the moron as a viable person to be President, Vice President, Governor, etc.

  21. Tyro says:

    he reports on what’s hot.

He tells you what to think, what to believe, and what to repeat, and you obey because you’re not that bright. Drudge is the voice of ignorant angry republican uncles everywhere who want to be “in the know” without expending any mental effort. He’s part of thge reason why the right-wing blogosphere is a wasteland of mindless identical talking points– right-wingers don’t have any thoughts of their own.

  22. !

    Republican Sarah Palin 2012 !-)

Right wingers really don’t understand that the left would be ecstatic to face Witch Protected Sarah Palin in 2012.

Nobody is going to give Sarah Palin the Evil Eye, nosiree Charlie.

  23. Right wingers really don’t understand that the left would be ecstatic to face Witch Protected Sarah Palin in 2012.

    Rightwingers don’t understand ANYTHING.

That is why they are rightwingers.

  24. passerby says:

He knows voodoo too, you wingnuts better watch yourselves… LMFAO!!!

  25. Amused Observer says:

    Tyro,
You’re looking in a mirror dude.

    Jaim,
Thursdays, is that you’re day off? Start with the peaplants and work your way from there. Baby steps at first. Remember the old chestnut. Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach.

    Oliver,
You have written about Jeffries but generally speaking you keep a pretty closed mouth over Democrat’s follies. We see very little here negative regarding the Democrats. Inflammatory partisanship is your stock in trade.

  26. fafaroo says:

We see very little here negative regarding the Democrats. Inflammatory partisanship is your stock in trade.

Yeah, because it’s neither inflammatory nor partisan to simply note that Obama “is inclined to help America’s enemies and to harm our friends.”

What’s inflammatory or partisan about that?

  27. Atreus says:

Amused Observer: “Thursdays, is that you’re (sic) day off?”

    I know, i know.

Criticizing or making fun of someone’s lack of grammatical or spelling skill is childish but i find it quite ironic that the mistake coming from someone who also said in the next sentence: “Remember the old chestnut. Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach.”

No wonder right wingers are so stupid if that is how they view teachers.

  28. SaveFarris says:

When we get beaten we tend to beat up on ourselves, wondering why America doesn’t like us.

nothing but self-serving twaddle. When you get beaten, you claim the election was stolen and then question the intelligence of the voters. (”what’s the matter with Kansas?”)

  29. Wilbur says:

fafaroo, don’t you know that it’s only imflammatory partisanship when democrats bash republicans? When republicans bash democrats it’s fair and balanced.

Sort of like bipartisanship, which means democrats doing what republicans want.

There’s no term for the opposite of that – republicans doing what democrats want – for the simple reason that such a thing is unheard of.

  30. Wilbur says:

When you get beaten, you claim the election was stolen

Um, SaveFarris, Coleman is a republican. Check it out.

  31. Tyro: Maybe … when you learn to become better people who might, at some point, be able to engage with Democrats as equals …

The arrogance portrayed in that statement is staggering, breathtaking, and not the least bit surprising. Thomas Sowell remarked on it years ago:

What is especially disturbing about the political left is that they seem to have no sense of the tragedy of the human condition. Instead, they tend to see the problems of the world as due to other people not being as wise or as noble as themselves.

  32. jr says:

Republicans will always be George Noory guests on the inside

  33. Wilbur says:

What is especially disturbing about the political left is that they seem to have no sense of the tragedy of the human condition. Instead, they tend to see the problems of the world as due to other people not being as wise or as noble as themselves.

If they gave a Nobel prize for unintenional irony Thomas Sowell would certainly be among the leading candidates.

  34. White Whale says:

“Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach.”

Says one of the most uninformed, racist, and fever minded posters Amused Observer.

It is nice to know that you have absolute contempt for education and just suppose business leaders, scientists, doctors etc… are just born into these positions.

Oh and its great to see that NONE of the conservatives are actually addressing the “evil eye” point of the link. Rather than face the ABSURDITY of this, conservatives change the subject. Pathetic.

  35. Amused Observer says:

    White Whale,
Thread drift is quite common and not really very indicitive of deliberately trying to change the subject. In this case Oliver’s starting point about the alledged Obama evil eye is pretty absurd given the original context.

Being called uninformed or racist here in OllieLand has no sting.
The liberal concensus displayed here is anything but factual.

  36. White Whale: see my comment of June 30, 2009 at 11:10 pm

  37. Amused Observer says:

Contempt for education and contempt for educators are two different concepts. I note with amusement that if graphed the lines for grade inflation and SAT scores are headed in different directions. Teaching is an art not a science. Most teachers are neither artists or scientists. Accreditation is a poor substitute for skill.

  38. Parthenon says:

Could the evil eye theory be peak wingnut? They can’t go higher than that, can they?

  39. Not That IvyNYC says:

“He’s as much white as he is black, genetically speaking.”

Just curious, AO…how much black you got in you? If you had family here in America prior to 1890, you probably got some. My great great grandmother was black and Cherokee. You may not know it looking at me, since my GGGrannie hooked up with a bunch of pasty Scots-Irish people from Appalachia whose children hooked up with more pasty Irish people and so on.

I only bring this up because this is becoming the rethugs new war cry– “he’s only HALF black!” And I’m just trying to determine what exactly that has to do with all the tea in China.

  40. Not That IvyNYC says:

“Could the evil eye theory be peak wingnut? They can’t go higher than that, can they?”

    Wait.

  41. C.S.Strowbridge says:

Jay Caruso: “If the left is all about the IDEAS and Sarah Palin is such an idiot and non-threat, why then is the left and Democrats still going after this woman with reckless abandon?

    It’s pretty pathetic.”

    No. It’s fucking brilliant.

Every time the Democrats attack Palin, she becomes more popular with the Republicans, which makes it more likely she will be their presidential nominee in 2012.

However, independents dislike her. And you needs independents to win.

By attacking the Republicans weakest link… well, one of their weak links, the Democrats are tricking the Republicans into thinking we’re scared of someone we can’t wait to run against.

And I can tell you this without fearing you will rethink your position, because if you were the kind of person who could rethink a position, you wouldn’t be Republican.

  42. White Whale says:

Being called uninformed or racist here in OllieLand has no sting-
Shorter AO- Its true what is said about me and it doesn’t bother me that much.

-(oh as a side note, I normally don’t try to get “personal” with my comments because I don’t personally know you and I have nothing to gain by making insults. I am merely stating the obvious)

Unfortunately, your rantings are misguided and tell me more about yourself than what teachers actually do in thier jobs. Teachers are both scientist and artists.
Here is just a few thoughts from known idiots who never believed in teachers also….

It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.
    Albert Einstein (1879-1955) German-Swiss-U.S. scientist.

The one exclusive sign of thorough knowledge is the power of teaching.
Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.

The man who can make hard things easy is the educator.
Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882) U.S. poet, essayist and lecturer

As a teacher,I spend each and everyday researching to make sure my methods, practices and information are current and relevant. Teachers spend countless hours training and advancing thier education so that students can reap the benefits. Much like your racism, teaching and education is something to be boiled down to fit into your “amusing” outlook on life.

  43. C.S.Strowbridge says:

“Just curious, AO…how much black you got in you? If you had family here in America prior to 1890, you probably got some.”

We are all black. If you trace your family line back far enough, we all go back to Africa.

  44. C.S.Strowbridge says:

AO: “Contempt for education and contempt for educators are two different concepts. I note with amusement that if graphed the lines for grade inflation and SAT scores are headed in different directions. Teaching is an art not a science. Most teachers are neither artists or scientists. Accreditation is a poor substitute for skill.”

And what are you? Are you an artist or a scientist? You spend a great deal of time attacking others for their profession, so what do you do for a living?

And while we are at it… How’s your health?

  45. Amused Observer says:

I merely responded to Jaim’s remarks in a condescending manner. I don’t believe that Obama is 1/2 black really is the new Republican war cry. It is amusing that we may have our first black president after Bill Clinton but we still don’t have an African American one.

If you be Cherokee maybe we’re related on your indian side. My family goes back to 1715 in America on my maternal side. My mom got into the geneology thing pretty deeply just after Roots.

You’ll have to go back a lot further than 1715 to find an African. Probably further than recorded history. Unless that wee bit of Cherokee has a little buffalo man in the woodpile.

Note to outraged readers buffalo man was an indian term for blacks without a negative racial connatation.

  46. Indeed says:

Note to AO: “…in the woodpile” had a negative racial connotation. But you may have already known that–it is, after all, your M.O.

  47. Indeed says:

Also has, not just had a negative racial connotation.

  48. White Whale says:

we still don’t have an African American”

Of course his father was African and his mother an American…so doesn’t that mean he is really an African American in the truest sense? Isn’t that amusing AO? I am sure your well educated mind can understandLOL!

  49. Amused Observer says:

I am both an artist and a scientist, I design and create bounded by the laws of physics. Your health is suspect because a lack of proper medication is the only polite way to describe your pathological tendencies. My health is not in question but thanks for asking, it’s nice to know you care.

  50. Fafaroo says:

The liberal concensus displayed here is anything but factual.

From a guy whose own record with knowing and understanding facts is on par with Jay Tea’s.

  51. Amused Observer says:

    White Whale,
Snappy retort, I stand corrected. Perhaps he actually is one of the few African Americans in the nation.

    Indeed,

Politically Correct is indeed not my modus operandi. Would you care to discuss calling a spade a spade?

  52. White Whale says:

I am both an artist and a scientist

So you are a teacher! Well, I guess a self-loathing one right? Your need to be willfully obtuse is actually more telling about your psychological state but don’t take it from me, I could probably get an educated doctor to read your rantings and make a diagnosis.

  53. Fafaroo says:

I am both an artist and a scientist, I design and create bounded by the laws of physics.

    ROFLMAO.

  54. Duros62 says:

Give Obama’s girls a couple of years and then talk about Michelle’s slutty fashion sense and joke around about those girls being ho’s. See if that sort of thing is still ok?

Well, it doesn’t really work if it isn’t true, does it?

    LOLlies

  55. SaveFarris says:

And remember, according to Oliver, when Democratics lose elections they become introspective while Republicans go bats%#t crazy.

Say, is Bush wearing an earpiece during the debates? Is he giving everyone a nickname because he’s too dumb to remember everyones name? And just how many babies did Laura abort?!?

  56. Duros62 says:

question the intelligence of the voters. (”what’s the matter with Kansas?”)

    C’mon, that’s a fair question.

  57. Indeed : The “Ethiopian in the woodpile” comes from the Bible…

    I know it’s not ‘politically correct,’ but…

    Indeed.

  60. Amused Observer says:

    Duros,
The truth hasn’t kept Sarah Palin safe from such remarks has it? By leftist standards Obama’s daughters ought to be fair game by the next election.

  61. C.S.Strowbridge says:

AO: “I am both an artist and a scientist…”

No. You are a fucking coward who is will to attack those based on their jobs, but refuse to state your own.

“My health is not in question…”

And further proof that you are a coward.

“…but thanks for asking, it’s nice to know you care.”

    I don’t.

“Politically Correct is indeed not my modus operandi.”

No. Outright racism is. That and stupidity.

  62. Amused Observer says:

  64. C.S.Strowbridge says:

AO: “The truth hasn’t kept Sarah Palin safe from such remarks has it?”

You wouldn’t know the truth if it came up and raped your dog.

For instance, it is the truth that there is a feud within the GOP over Sarah Palin. If its just cruel lefties attacking her with lies because they are scared of her, explain the GOP infighting over her.

    While you are at it…

    How’s your health?
What do you do for a living?

  65. C.S.Strowbridge says:

    Amused Observer: Indeed,
Do you remember the story of the little boy who cried wolf?”

Is there a parable where there really is a wolf, but the people attack the boy for mentioning it?

Meghan McCain is writing a book that could be turned into a movie. It includes a chapter on Palin. I wonder what she has to say? I bet it won’t be complimentary.

I guess she’s just an evil leftie in disguise.

(Also, she wants Hilary Duff to play her in the movie.)

    C. S. Strowbridge wrote:
By attacking the Republicans weakest link… well, one of their weak links, the Democrats are tricking the Republicans into thinking we’re scared of someone we can’t wait to run against.

    Spot on.
One thing that is reliable about wingnut psychology is that criticising someone means that you are afraid of them. Thus, during the election campaign the common refrain was “libs are scared of Palin!”, though everyone not in the GOP thought she was a joke and a poor choice.

What does this tell us about the wingnut criticism of Obama?
Surely this means that they are scared of Obama, Franken, Reid, etc. since criticism indicates fear by wingnut logic.

The percentage of women indicating a preference for McCain actually went down within a week of Palin joining the ticket. Her selection was as much a gamble to appeal to the mythical “PUMA” as it was to appeal to the evangelicals. In short, Palin only “drew” voters in who would have likely voted for the Republicans anyway.

I really hope that Republicans continue to believe that they can win with their base alone. Palin’s most likely effect would be to fracture that fragile base.

  70. Amused Observer says:

    LOl CS,
I’m a coward for not directly telling you what I do for a living? I am so scared. I’ve done several things to earn a living. The choice to disclose my livlihood will definitely be mine to make and your comments have little bearing on that or anything else for that matter. I certainly don’t brag on my occupation to show people on the internet from foriegn countries how cool and successful I am.

My health is probably good enough to withstand Canadian healthcare but I’m not willing to take the chance longterm.

I certainly hope your mentioning of dog rape isn’t another projection on your part. Your mental stability is already in question and bestiality certainly would fit in to your sociopathic profile. Do you have any strong feelings about fire?

While there is indeed controversy within the republican party over Sarah Palin I doubt it will reach the proportions of the Bros vs. Hos dispute that the Democrats went through. Before you get all huffy I’ll point out I first ran across that term at the fairminded and progressive Daily Kos site so it must be ok.

It will be interesting to see what the McCain camp writes about Palin. She certainly had more drawing power than McCain imagined, his ego may not have appreciated that.

Watermelons on the front lawn of the Whitehouse may be course but in itself is not really racism. It’s mean but making jokes at the expense of one’s ethnicity or appearence is always impolite but not always racism. And if we are speaking of comparisons it pales besides the abuse that has been heaped upon Palin.

It must be a great pyschological relief to be able to come to the USA in a virtual manner and spout off the way you do. The thought police of the HRC might take you to court up north.

  71. Amused Observer says:

    Duros,
Why the disdain for Sowell? Do you disagree with him on economics? You’re probably a Krugmanite.

  72. Dennis says:

For instance, it is the truth that there is a feud within the GOP over Sarah Palin. If its just cruel lefties attacking her with lies because they are scared of her, explain the GOP infighting over her.

Ha ha ha. Strowbridge is too chickenshit to link to The Politico here as the source of the Palin rumors. Too chickenshit also to link to the Todd Purdum hit piece from whence it came, who even Oliver’s compatriot agreed with Bill Kristol of all people in calling it highly suspect. Even Bill Clinton called Purdum a liar and a scumbag, and his wife used to be his press secretary.

You’re a real piece of work, Strowbridge. You’re now down in News Reference’s basement.

  73. Amused Observer says:

Der mensch trakht un Gott lahkht!

  74. Dennis says:

I certainly don’t brag on my occupation to show people on the internet from foriegn countries how cool and successful I am.

That is it in a nutshell, AO. CSS and Jaim both brag about their occupations for some reason on here, then act surprised when anyone mentions it, like it’s an invasion of their privacy. Then they demand that you reveal your occupation, even to the point of obsessing over it, then get peeved when you don’t acquiesce to thier petulant demands. Strowbridge has asked you 3-4 times already since last night.

    But he’s mentally stable.

  75. Duros: It is a shame you wouldn’t read Dr Sowell. It is certainly not something I would brag about.

To you and CSS : I would never refuse to read anyone. It gives lie to your pretense of open mindedness, fair mindedness, true willingness to engage in debate, and your own ability to confront ideas with which you might disagree…

You are describing your own hubris in its original sense : the arrogant kind of pride that prevents a person from accurately assessing what might be dangerous to him / her.

You, like the President and the Congressional Leadership, are saying, “I always thought I was right, but now that the Democrats have won many elections, including the Big Enchilada, I now know I am right”, as if winning an election determines the accuracy of a belief.

  76. Duros62 says:

It is amusing that we may have our first black president after Bill Clinton but we still don’t have an African American one.

    Hmm.

    Dad=African
    Mom=American

    Am I missing something?

  77. Duros62 says:

Duros: It is a shame you wouldn’t read Dr Sowell. It is certainly not something I would brag about.

Right. The guy who wrote this

A Gallup poll last week showed that far more Americans describe themselves as conservatives than as liberals. Yet Republicans have been clobbered by the Democrats in both the 2006 elections and the 2008 elections.

    Cite? Not so much.

A quadrupling of the national debt in just one year and accepting a nuclear-armed sponsor of international terrorism such as Iran are not things from which any country is guaranteed to recover.

Perhaps people who are busy gushing over the Obama cult today might do well to stop and think about what it would mean for their granddaughters to live under sharia law.

The glib pieties in Barack Obama’s televised sermonettes will not stop Iran from becoming a nuclear terrorist nation. Time is running out fast and we will be lucky if it doesn’t happen during the first term of this president. If he gets elected to a second term — which is quite possible, despite whatever economic disasters he leads us into — our fate as a nation may be sealed.

    So much fail.

  78. Jay Tea says:

Good point, Duros. Obama has a better claim to that term than a lot of others.

And yes, I’m one of those right-wing, racist, xenophobic nutjobs who has a personal distaste for “hyphenated Americans.” Regardless of the nationality of his father, Obama is an American.

    J.

  79. Duros62 says:

You, like the President and the Congressional Leadership, are saying, “I always thought I was right, but now that the Democrats have won many elections, including the Big Enchilada, I now know I am right”, as if winning an election determines the accuracy of a belief.

Not at all, Frank. I read this and think “How can he be so wrong all the time?”

  80. Duros62 says:

It’s not hubris when I say “Is he fucking serious?” It’s incredulity. Big difference.

  81. Dennis says:

I think this is the Gallup poll he was referring to, Duros.

  82. Duros62 says:

Perhaps he actually is one of the few African Americans in the nation.

    along with Charlize Theron.

  83. Duros62 says:

Regardless of the nationality of his father, Obama is an American.

I, for one, thank you for that, Jay.

  84. Amused Observer says:

    Duros,
I think Whale beat you to the punch. I’ll concede the point graciously. If only we could get our hands on that birth certificate…

On Sowell you’ll have to make a better case than the one you do. The man has a solid track record. It’s a shame he’s too smart for politics. He’d make a superb President, the ideal man to have at the helm during these trying economic times.

  85. Amused Observer says:

    LOL,
I guess American African would be more accurate, it distinquishes him from the hyphenated Americans of which he is not and yet correctly notes his hybrid status.

  86. C.S.Strowbridge says:

Me: “Or do you think a picture of watermelons on the White House lawn isn’t a sign of racism?”

Dennis: “Race-obsessed, Obsessive-compulsive freak. He really can’t stop himself.”

And you just proved my point.

You would rather insult me for being obsessed than combat the obvious racism within the GOP.

That’s why the GOP approval rating among blacks is in the single digits, while among Hispanics it’s not much better.

With these numbers, the GOP can’t win.

And instead of fixing the problem, which you are a part of, you attack those who point it out.

  87. Right winger “Amused Observer”: “I’m a coward for not directly telling you what I do for a living?”

I’d be surprised if “Amused Observer” was employed, unless getting paid to troll lefty blogs is considered “employed”.

  88. Right winger “Jay Tea”: “And yes, I’m one of those right-wing, racist, xenophobic nutjobs who has a personal distaste for “hyphenated Americans.” Regardless of the nationality of his father, Obama is an American.”

I’ve come to appreciate “Jay Tea’s” occasional lapses into honesty.

  89. C.S.Strowbridge says:

    AO: “I’m a coward…”

Yes you are. You are a coward because you attack people for having jobs, and you refuse to disclose what you do for a living.

“The choice to disclose my livlihood will definitely be mine to make…”

I hope you don’t tell. That way I can mock you for being a coward while coming up with reasons you are too scared to tell us what you do.

    Let me guess…

You flip burgers. You pick up trash on the side of the road. Medical test subject.

“My health is probably good enough to withstand Canadian healthcare but I’m not willing to take the chance longterm.”

It’s amazing how often you can repeat the same wrong thing.

Canadians live longer than Americans. Either out health care is better, or there is something inherent about Canadians that make us live longer.

    Which is it?

“I certainly hope your mentioning of dog rape isn’t another projection on your part. ”

You are the king of projection. Your whole fucking party is, as the facts have shown over and over again.

“While there is indeed controversy within the republican party over Sarah Palin I doubt it will reach the proportions of the Bros vs. Hos dispute that the Democrats went through.”

… And this is why you lost in 2008.

“Watermelons on the front lawn of the Whitehouse may be course but in itself is not really racism.”

Ha ha ha ha ha hahaha ha ha ha!

It’s funnier, because you think it’s true.

“The thought police of the HRC might take you to court up north.”

    You. Are. Wrong.

You have been proven wrong again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again.

Every time you insult me for being Canadian, or a movie critic, or insult Jaim for being a teacher in South Korea, it reaks of jealousy.

… You’ve never left the Country, have you? That’s why you are so pissed off at Jaim, because he’s done something you will never do.

    That’s it, isn’t it?

He’s more traveled than you, and the jealousy is killing you.

  90. Duros, were you expecting Dr. Sowell to put a link to Wikipedia in the middle of the page?

His previous works in the field of demographics and econometrics are beyond brilliant.

And you don’t think I am “wrong all the time”; like most people on these threads, you think you are right all the time.

Several people, on different occasions, have responded to me by saying (in effect), “If I don’t what you’re talking about, you must be making it up” { working from the premise that there couldn’t possibly be anything I know that they don’t }. But I have learned long ago that, for liberals, they accept as a truism that people who oppose their beliefs or have differing opinions, just don’t know as much as they do ( the idea that someone could know different things than they do, or [impossibly] know more than they do, never entering their minds].

I grew up believing, “There will always be someone smarter than I.” Liberals must grow up believing “There will never be anyone smarter than I.”

About that Citation: Dr Sowell was writing a column, which almost never include citations.

Funny thing is when I went looking for the column (using IXQuick) , I found this right below it : “Conservatives” Are Single-Largest Ideological Group.

    Isn’t that interesting?

In the words of one of our greatest Presidents*: “It isn’t that liberals don’t know so much, it’s that they know so much that isn’t so”.

    * This is a citation

  91. C.S.Strowbridge says:

Dennis the Bigot: “Ha ha ha. Strowbridge is too chickenshit to link to The Politico here as the source of the Palin rumors.”

Actually, I didn’t read it in Politico. I’ve seen the quotes from the actual combatants. Steve Schmidt going after Bill Kristol, for instance.

But feel free to claim those quotes are made up as well.

The more effort you put into pretending the problem doesn’t exist, the worse it will get.

  92. Right wing extremist Thomas Sowell believes that if right wing aims can’t be pushed through with democratic ballots they should be forced through with bullets.

Right wing extremist Thomas Sowell is a fascist; which explains why right wingers “Frank DiSalle” and “Amused Observer” are fans of his.

  93. C.S.Strowbridge says:

AO: “I certainly don’t brag on my occupation to show people on the internet from foriegn countries how cool and successful I am.”

Dennis: “That is it in a nutshell, AO. CSS and Jaim both brag about their occupations for some reason on here, then act surprised when anyone mentions it, like it’s an invasion of their privacy.”

Wow. How can one man be so very wrong so often.

“Then they demand that you reveal your occupation…”

    I demanded? I asked a simple question.

“…even to the point of obsessing over it…”

You accuse me of being obsessed so often, it’s an obsession with you.

“Strowbridge has asked you 3-4 times already since last night.”

And I’ll ask dozens of times more. I’ll ask him every time he brings up someone else’s job. And I’ll ask him about his health as well.

I’ll do that till he answers the questions, or he finally runs away like the coward that he is.

    “But he’s mentally stable.”

Much more stable than you guys.

I can recognize reality when I see it.

  94. Amused Observer says:

    LOL,
Reeking of jealosy, oh yes CS that must be it. Strangely enough I have worked in a foriegn country, however I was sought out and hired for my expertise not because I couldn’t get a decent job in my native land.

Watching tv at home is certainly a unique way to make a living. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t use the term jealosy to describe my feelings towards it. All work done well has dignity and there are tricks to every trade. But in the end, looking back, I would hope for a more lasting and meaningful monument to a life’s work than having watched a lot of TV.

  95. Duros62 says:

He’d make a superb President, the ideal man to have at the helm during these trying economic times.

    Hoo-boy.

  96. Right wing extremist “Frank DiSalle” translates the voices in his head: ““If I don’t what you’re talking about, you must be making it up””.

And it’s true, people “don’t what” “Frank DiSalle” is talking about.

  97. Duros62 says:

And you don’t think I am “wrong all the time”; like most people on these threads, you think you are right all the time.

Never said that, Frank. Wasn’t even talking about you.

Funny thing is when I went looking for the column (using IXQuick) , I found this right below it : “Conservatives” Are Single-Largest Ideological Group.

    Isn’t that interesting?

That is interesting. Just goes to show that Conservative =/= Republican.

  98. Amused Observer says:

    WOW,
Newsie is on acid. That post above has to be some sort of all time record. Are the walls melting yet?

    CS,
This wasn’t directed at you but it sure fits.

“It isn’t that liberals don’t know so much, it’s that they know so much that isn’t so”

This certainly sounds obsessive, “And I’ll ask dozens of times more” You go boy.

  99. Duros62 says:

Wow. How can one man be so very wrong so often.

Channeling Jonah Goldberg and the whole NRO gang?

  100. Amused Observer says:

    Duros,
I may be wrong here but you don’t strike me as the type to have had any personal experience running your own show. Which is probably the easiest way to get real world experience. But please, enlighten us on economics. No matter what you say about Sowell or economics you’re going to sound pretty damn lucid after Newsie.

  101. Dennis says:

Actually, I didn’t read it in Politico. I’ve seen the quotes from the actual combatants. Steve Schmidt going after Bill Kristol, for instance.

But feel free to claim those quotes are made up as well.–CSS

Oh really, Strowberry? What article was it that you got the quotes from? Here, I’ll give you an assist, here’s the memeorandum post of The Politico story and every blog and news organization that’s commented on the McCain-Palin infighting. Which one did you read that wasn’t a direct report from the Politico piece by Jonathan Martin? Steve Schmidt’s quote was reported by Martin, so everyone who wrote about it linked back to the source, which was the Politico article.

What a joke you are. A coward and a liar. You’d have been better off just passing on a reply than lying. Pathological liars don’t think that way, though.

  102. Right winger “Dennis” thinks ‘foreigners’ look different than him.

What do foreigners look like, again, “Dennis”?

Perhaps your right wing racist friend “Amused Observer” can help you out with that question.

  103. Right winger “Jay” brought up “Vanity Fair going into the sewer to do a US Weekly type “Sarah Palin is white trash” story at the top of this thread.

It was silly for “Jay” to bring it up (and those are “Jay’s” words). If right wingers hadn’t thrown (and still are throwing) such a fit about the article I never would have heard about it.

Funny, to the best of my recollection when Vanity Fair’s writer Todd Purdum did a similar attack piece on Democratic Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton, the right wingers were ecstatic and took every opportunity they could to push Purdum’s story.

Purdum’s attack piece on Hillary was pushed by the right wing AND pushed by the entire corporate media as well. NBC’s David Gregory had Purdum on Meet the Press immediately after Purdum’s attack piece on Hillary was published.

Back then the right wingers though Todd Purdum was a credible investigative journalist, but now, right winger “Jay” thinks the entire Vanity Fair magazine is no longer a “bedrock of investigative journalism”.

Please, find me examples of right wingers immediately after Purdum’s attack piece on Democratic Senator and Presidential Candidate Clinton who attacked Purdum’s “sewer” story on Clinton.

    Seriously.

The same writer that went after Democratic Candidate Hillary Clinton and her husband and was cited with glee by the right is now suddenly part of the “left and Democrats still going after this [Republican Sarah Palin] woman with reckless abandon?”

Because everyone knows that in right wingers world you can only criticize the left.

It’s Right Winger’s First Rule: Rules Are For Other People.

  104. Wilbur says:

    Shorter Dennis

Dennis is obviously a fully fledged cadet in the Starburst Academy

  105. And the citation that right winger “Jay” manages to avoid, is (using “Jay’s” own words to describe the story) :

“Vanity Fair going into the sewer to do a US Weekly type “Sarah Palin is white trash” story.

  106. Dennis says:

Dennis is obviously a fully fledged cadet in the Starburst Academy

After seeing this pic in Runner’s World, Wilbur, if I wasn’t before, I am now.

45 years old and 5 kids, that is nothing short of amazing.

  107. Amused Observer says:

It’s a popular bumpersticker in AK.

    Coldest State, Hottest Governor

  108. Dennis says:

Right winger “Dennis” thinks ‘foreigners’ look different than him.

What do foreigners look like, again, “Dennis”?

News Reference, just WTF are you talking about? I didn’t even mention foreigners.

Why don’t you tell me how foreigners are different, you’re the one who bitched about one bandaging you up in the hospital, like that was beneath you.

  109. Right winger “Amused Observer” likes right wing thug Thomas Sowell, go figure.

Thomas Sowell’s use of explicitly threatening rhetoric is summed up in Thomas Sowell’s anti-democratic assertion: “When I see the worsening degeneracy in our politicians, our media, our educators, and our intelligentsia, I can’t help wondering if the day may yet come when the only thing that can save this country is a military coup.”

That’s the Thomas Sowell that the right wing extremists here are citing as an “authority”: Someone who sees a “military coup” as the ’solution’ to the right wing’s failure to push their extremist agenda through democracy.

Some other background on Thomas Sowell:

“Sowell cited Neo-Nazis’ actions as example of “racial hype game” surrounding Jena 6 case.”

“Sowell defends Wal-Mart, ignores workers’ dependence on Medicaid, food stamps.”

Beyond Thomas Sowell’s indulgence of violent rhetoric and extreme callousness is also Thomas Sowell’s shallow vapidity and illogical thinking:

“Thomas Sowell and the Virtue of Seriousness.”

“Thomas Sowell offers superb Exhibit of the Right-wing Mind.”

Still, it’s Thomas Sowell’s vicious side that appeals to right wing extremists that see violence as a solution.

That Thomas Sowell has a fan of someone like “Amused Observer”, who has expressed sympathy with terrorists and explicitly argued that war is the first solution and even hinted that a ‘final solution’ is the solution, isn’t surprising.

  110. Amused Observer says:

    Do you see tracers Newsie?

  111. Dennis says:

Dude is bizarre, AO. I’ve never seen anything like it. He’s like a bot or something with some faulty circuit boards installed.

  112. Duros62 says:

But please, enlighten us on economics.

Man, STFU. I owe you nothing.

  113. “Thomas Sowell’s comprehensive guide to our political debates: Thomas Sowell has performed a truly great service. He has managed to squeeze in every dishonest rhetorical tactic, flagrant myth, and hysterical premise of Bush followers into a single new column,” which is why right wing extremists cite Thomas Sowell as an authority.

Right wing extremist Thomas Sowell is dishonest, hysterical, and regularly creates right wing myths without any connection to reality.

  114. Amused Observer says:

Touched a nerve on that one. I guess it’s out of the question for you to support Sowell for president. He’d do much better than Obama.

  115. Right wing extremist Thomas Sowell, who thinks a “military coup” may be the only ’solution’ to America’s democratic republic, is supported by fellow right wing extremist “Amused Observer”.

    Noted.

  116. Why do right wingers hate America’s democratic republic?

  117. Duros62 says:

I guess it’s out of the question for you to support Sowell for president. He’d do much better than Obama.

HA! In what fucking alternate universe?
Yes, perhaps he could get Alan Keyes to run as his VP.
Newsie and I have shown Sowell for the treasonous Neocon fear monger that he is.
Make your case. How would he be better?

  118. Steve Benen takes a look at the Vanity Fair/Politico articles:

“Shortly after Purdum’s Vanity Fair piece was posted online, it got ugly. [right winger] Bill Kristol, for example, went after [Republican] Steve Schmidt, McCain’s campaign manager. Schmidt responded that Kristol’s “management of [Republican] Dan Quayle’s public image as his chief of staff is still something that takes your breath away.” Schmidt added that Kristol’s allegations about him “rises to the level of a slander” and noted that Kristol is “in the business of ad hominem insults and criticism.”

[Republican] Randy Scheunemann quickly weighed in, taking Kristol’s side, and blasting Schmidt’s “congenital aversion to the truth.”"

    Wow.

Republican Randy Scheunemann says Republican Steve Schmidt has a “congenital aversion to the truth.”"

  119. Amused Observer says:

    Whoa Duros,
Get a grip dude, you’ve got to do better than Newsie for a back up. Anything sounds lucid in comparison. You obviously haven’t read any of Sowell’s books. You don’t know a damn thing about the man. I

I know liberals think socialism is great, corporations are evil, government couldn’t possibly get too big, etc. but even so…Newsie as your intellectual back up? Man, a black guy doesn’t toe the liberal line you guys eat him alive without the vaguest concept of what he is talking about.

  120. Duros62 says:

You obviously haven’t read any of Sowell’s books.

Haven’t read any of Uncle Miltie’s either, another one of your heroes.

Man, a black guy doesn’t toe the liberal line you guys eat him alive without the vaguest concept of what he is talking about.

That has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with it. I thought Sowell was an asshat long before I knew he was black.

  121. Duros62 says:

Plus the fact that if you and Dennis and Frank are all telling me how brilliant he is, there must be something seriously wrong with him. You guys don’t exactly have the best track record.

  122. Jay Tea says:

I’m not sure how the Purdum article came up here, but here’s something worth considering about the author:

MILBANK, S.D. — Former President Bill Clinton today unleashed a salty stream of epithets to describe former New York Times reporter and current Vanity Fair writer Todd Purdum, calling him “sleazy,” “dishonest,” “slimy” and a “scumbag.”

The former president made the comment at a local campaign event after I asked him if Purdum’s much-commented upon Vanity Fair story was weighing on his mind.

Tightly gripping this reporter’s hand and refusing to let go, Clinton heatedly denounced the writer, who is currently married to former Clinton White House Press Secretary, Dee Dee Myers.

“[He's] sleazy,” he said referring to Purdum. “He’s a really dishonest reporter. And one of our guys talked to him . . . And I haven’t read [the article]. But he told me there’s five or six just blatant lies in there. But he’s a real slimy guy,” the former president said.

When I reminded him that Purdum was married to his former press spokesperson Myers, Clinton was undeterred.

“That’s all right– he’s still a scumbag,” Clinton said. ” Let me tell ya– he’s one of the guys — he’s one of the guys that propagated all those lies about Whitewater to Kenneth Starr. He’s just a dishonest guy– can’t help it.”

Purdum’s piece, featured in this month’s edition of Vanity Fair, included former advisers criticizing former President Clinton for bringing negative attention to Hillary Clinton’s candidacy and for surrounding himself with friends who might discredit her campaign.

    The former president’s tirade continued:

“The editor of Esquire– he sent us an email yesterday and said it was the single sleaziest piece of journalism he’d seen in decades. He said it made him want to go take a shower and he was embarrassed to be a journalist when he read it.”

“You know he didn’t use a single name, cite a single source in all those things he said. It’s just slimy. It’s part of the national media’s attempt to nail Hillary for Obama. It’s just the most biased press coverage in history. It’s another way of helping Obama. They had all these people standing up in this church cheering, calling Hillary a white racist, and he didn’t do anything about it. The first day he said ‘Ah, ah, ah well.’ Because that’s what they do– he gets other people to slime her. So then they saw the movie they thought this is a great ad for John McCain– maybe I better quit the church. It’s all politics. It’s all about the bias of the media for Obama. Don’t think anything about it.”

“But I’m telling ya, all it’s doing is driving her supporters further and further away– because they know exactly what it is– this has been the most rigged press coverage in modern history– and the guy ought to be ashamed of himself. But he has no shame. It isn’t the first dishonest piece he’s written about me or her.”

“Anytime you read a story that slimes a public figure with anonymous quotes, it oughta make the bells go off in your head. Because anytime somebody uses those things– he wrote the story in his head in advance, and he just goes around and tries to find some coward to say whatever they want to say, hoping to get some benefit out of it. It didn’t bother me. It shouldn’t bother you.”

William Jefferson Clinton, June 2, 2008.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mayhill-fowler/bill-clinton-purdhum-a-sl_b_104771.html

Gee, sounds like this Purdum has found a great way to make a living, doing this sort of thing on Obama’s rivals…

    J.

  123. Zython says:

The arrogance portrayed in that statement is staggering, breathtaking, and not the least bit surprising.

Aw, an ultra-con calling liberals “arrogant”. How cute.

  124. Duros62 says:

Seriously, how would he be better than the centrist Democrat we have in office?

    By advocating for martial law?

“When I see the worsening degeneracy in our politicians, our media, our educators, and our intelligentsia, I can’t help wondering if the day may yet come when the only thing that can save this country is a military coup.”

    By wishing America gets nuked?

Just two nuclear bombs were enough to get Japan to surrender in World War II. It is hard to believe that it would take much more than that for the United States of America to surrender — especially with people in control of both the White House and the Congress who were for turning tail and running in Iraq just a couple of years ago.

Sounds like the fucking ghost of Ronald Reagan, alright.

  125. Zython says:

Gee, sounds like this Purdum has found a great way to make a living, doing this sort of thing on Obama’s rivals…

You should hope that he lasts longer than Bill Kristol.

  126. Duros62 says:

    What zython said.

  127. “Jay Tea”: “I’m not sure how the Purdum article came up here”

“Jay” raised it in the third post in this thread.

Purdum’s attack piece on Sarah Palin just did a HUGE favor for Republican Mitt “French Vacation to Avoid the Vietnam War” Romney.

What I’d like to read is any right wingers who complained about Purdum’s attack on Clinton shortly after he wrote it.

Instead, what I recall, right wingers pushing Purdum’s attack on Clinton as gospel truth with the help of the corporate media.

Right wingers elevated Purdum as a ‘journalist’ when he attacked Clinton.

Now Purdum is doing a favor for Republican Mitt “French Vacation” Romney.

And for the record, Purdum’s attack on Republican Sarah Palin was sleazy.

Using anonymous quotes the way Purdum did was a way for Republicans to attack Sarah Palin without leaving their fingerprints.

    It is sleazy and cowardly.

  128. Amused Observer says:

    LOL Duros,
Writing off Friedman and Sowell without having any understanding of them speaks volumes about your grasp of economics. Disagreeing would be one thing but dismissal without understanding or even exposure is actually pretty damn funny. Your portrayal of Obama as centrist is also worth a giggle. But what the hell, you get to vote too.

When you charactorize his statement about Japan and nukes as wishing America was nuked you are stretching the limits of credibility. That sounds more like a typical Olliverism.

Now with Newsie it’s easy to tell that it is just stupidity on his part. Your willful ignorance is obvious but I want to think that your ignorance is not masking stupidity too.

  129. Dennis says:

Instead, what I recall, right wingers pushing Purdum’s attack on Clinton as gospel truth with the help of the corporate media.

Right wingers elevated Purdum as a ‘journalist’ when he attacked Clinton.

Knowing ahead of time the futility of asking for some sort of evidence of which you speak, other than “what I recall”, it is also sleazy and cowardly to say something like that without it.

Do you have anything? Why don’t you do your usual 3 word Google search and link it here? I did, and nothing came up in the first 5 pages.

I remember the Clinton article as old news and all unsourced quotes, just like this one, and it not going anywhere. The only mention I recall was the allegation that Clinton had something going with Gina Gershon, which was not new and which she quickly denied as patently false.

So, even though it’s a waste of time to ask, do you have a link, News Reference, of any right winger saying his attack was Gospel truth, and them having elevated Purdum as a ‘journalist’?

Knowing you won’t, I’ll just call you a sleaze and a coward too ahead of time so I won’t have to come back later and do it when you flee the scene again.

  130. Duros62 says:

Your willful ignorance is obvious but I want to think that your ignorance is not masking stupidity too.

    Heh.

    Right back atcha, chief.

  131. Duros62 says:

When you charactorize his statement about Japan and nukes as wishing America was nuked you are stretching the limits of credibility. That sounds more like a typical Olliverism.

    O RLY?

    Then how about these douchenozzles?

  132. Duros62 says:

I remember the Clinton article as old news and all unsourced quotes, just like this one, and it not going anywhere.

In which case, I’m prepared to write it off altogether. The Clinton piece as well as the Palin piece.

  133. Amused Observer says:

    LOL Duros,
I hate to break it to you but neither one of those dudes is a black guy named Thomas Sowell. I didn’t watch the whole thing, does Sowell make a cameo?

You’re not making a very strong case for yourself.

  134. Amused Observer says:

“In which case, I’m prepared to write it off altogether. The Clinton piece as well as the Palin piece.”

But see, you are a decent guy.

  135. Wilbur says:

After seeing this pic in Runner’s World, Wilbur, if I wasn’t before, I am now.

Keep flapping your little wings, Dennis. Someday you will fly. Someday!

  136. Maybe right winger “Dennis” is Tinker Bell?

If we all believe, together, then “Dennis” can fly…

  137. “Dennis”, I asked for you to show me right wing critics of Purdum’s attack on Clinton shortly after it was published.

    Seriously.

You’re all grown up now, “Dennis”, show me where right wing critics criticized Purdum’s attacks on Clinton. Why can’ you find them?

    Hint: There were none.

    Show me I’m wrong.

  138. Purdum’s attack piece on Republican Sarah Palin includes claims of multiple Republicans calling Sarah Palin a narcissist.

    See how that works?

  139. Dennis says:

Why are you suddenly devoid of any link to your specious claims, News Reference?

You just made them up, didn’t you?

  140. Click on the blue, “Dennis”, but since you mised it I’ll make it bigger for you:

Purdum’s attack piece on Republican Sarah Palin includes claims of multiple Republicans called Sarah Palin a narcissist.

“More than once in my travels in Alaska, people brought up, without prompting, the question of Palin’s extravagant self-regard. Several told me, independently of one another, that they had consulted the definition of “narcissistic personality disorder” in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders—“a pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy”—and thought it fit her perfectly. When Trig was born, Palin wrote an e-mail letter to friends and relatives, describing the belated news of her pregnancy and detailing Trig’s condition; she wrote the e-mail not in her own name but in God’s, and signed it “Trig’s Creator, Your Heavenly Father.””

  141. Dennis says:

“Dennis”, I asked for you to show me right wing critics of Purdum’s attack on Clinton shortly after it was published.

Listen, Newsie, you didn’t ask me to show you that, and I told you it was treated as kind of ho-hum, nothing new here, tyhpical liberal on liberal high-mindedness journalism by Purdum. No one cared. When Clinton called Purdum a scumbag, that was the news story. I never claimed conservatives went nuts on Purdum, and it’s silly for you to make any kind of parallel to then vs now on how conservatives would react.

You, on the other hand, claimed just the opposite, that conservatives cheered Purdum on, elevated his status, and treated his story as the gospel truth. Now you do your typical dancing around that claim.

It wasn’t true. You made it up, and now you’re too chickenshit to admit it or provide a link, even just one, that supports your claim.

Your words…Sleazy and cowardly. Swallow them, Newsie.

  142. Dennis says:

Several told me, independently of one another, that they had consulted the definition of “narcissistic personality disorder” in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders…”

LOL. Like Bill Kristol said when he took this hit piece apart, who the hell consults the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, much less several people? Independently of one another.

Like OW’s compatriot, Eric Boehlert, said, that doesn’t pass the smell test.

It’s obviously enough for your smell test though, isn’t it?

Certainly sweet-smelling enough to try to pass it off as the gospel truth, that’s for sure.

  143. I had to look at that quote from Thomas Sowell a few times to see where he advocated , or even resigned himself to the prospect of violence.

Let’s go over it, one more time.

“When I see the worsening degeneracy in our politicians, our media, our educators, and our intelligentsia, I can’t help wondering if the day may yet come when the only thing that can save this country is a military coup.”

When I see the worsening degeneracy

worsening ( a participle ) = 1) deterioration: process of changing to an inferior state
    2) changing something with the result that it becomes worse

So, when Dr Sowell sees “something” becoming worse; the ‘when” implying that “something” is in the process of changing for the worse – not that it has changed for the worse, but that “some ‘thing’” is in the process of changing. So, in this case, he is not advocating change , peaceful or otherwise. He is seeing a degeneracy that exists, and changing for the worse, even now.
Now, where is it changing? : In the media, in our political arena, in the field of education, and the milieu of our intelligentsia. Is it changing amongst the general population? Not necessarily. Is it changing amongst liberals? Not necessarily. Is it changing amongst conservatives? Not likely since conservatives view change with a gimlet eye, a skeptic’s eye. What does that tell us? That a coup is imminent? No. That a coup is desirable? No.
So… Is Dr Sowell advocating a coup yet? No, he is not.
    So, what is he doing?
He is wondering:”having a a wish or desire to know something; [in] a state in which you want to learn more about something” .
So, he possesses a desire to know, or a curiosity about what?
That is simple : He is wondering whether ( is curious about ) whether “the day may yet come { as in could conceivably arrive } when the only thing that can { ‘possesses the capability } save this country is a military coup”.

So, is he advocating a coup? No.

Is he desirous of a coup? No.

    Is he advocating violence? No.

Is he enamored of violence? No.

Is he using “explicitly threatening rhetoric” [ or, implying the threat of violence, for that matter ] ? No. He is not.

No more than a person who wonders if a building might burn down is an arsonist.

Have a nice day, “Newsie” ( sorry this took so long, but I took a nap ).

  144. Right wing extremist “Frank DiSalle” reads an insane right wing militant saying that a “military coup” may be the “only thing that can save this country” from ? what? Our democratic republic? The will of the people? Voting? Democracy?

And “Frank DiSalle” feels a need to write over 400 words defending that kind of obscene, anti-democratic statement.

Why do you right wingers like “Frank DiSalle” hate our democratic republic?

  145. Wilbur says:

Nice job of linguistic parsing, Frank. Derrida would be proud.

For your next trick, could you tell us what the definition of “is” is?

  146. Nice job of linguistic parsing, Frank. Derrida would be proud.
I will take that as a compliment.

” … Foucault’s resentment towards Derrida may be linked to Derrida’s devastating critique of Foucault’s Madness and Civilization, and the fact that Foucault was at one time Derrida’s teacher… ”
“… Chomsky has indicated that he may simply be incapable of understanding Derrida, but he is dubious of this possibility… ” [emphasis added - fd]

Question for you, “Newsie”: How is that you now refer to the United States as a “democratic republic” when just a few short weeks ago, you were calling the United States “our American nation”?

And why do you insist on repeating a ridiculous observation after it has been thoroughly debunked?

Finally, anyone who refers to Thomas Sowell as an “insane right wing militant” has zero credibility.

Wilbur, how about if for your next trick, you make a cogent comment?

  147. “Frank DiSalle”, anyone who thinks that the insane right winger Thomas Sowell has credibility has zero credibility.

Thomas Sowell is an idiotic right wing extremist, which makes him a perfect roll model for both you and “Amused Observer”.

  148. Wilbur says:

Wilbur, how about if for your next trick, you make a cogent comment?

I’ve tried that with you before, Frank, and the problem is, you just wouldn’t recognize a cogent argument if it bit you on the ass. Hard. For you “cogent” means “conforming to my prejudices.” Just isn’t worth the effort.

But glad to see your such a fan of Derrida. Derrida and Thomas Sowell. There’s a certain poetry in that.

  149. “a perfect roll model”, eh?

I am partial to Portugese rolls ; I don’t how Amused Observer feels about them.

    heh

  150. Duros62 says:

But see, you are a decent guy.

    Well, thanks for that, AO.

I hate to break it to you but neither one of those dudes is a black guy named Thomas Sowell.

No, but they all eerily share the same view, which is central to my point. You do know it is possible for a black guy to be a dickhead, right? All three are hoping something bad happens to America while Obama is President. And all three are getting paid to voice those despicable opinions.

  151. Duros62 says:

After seeing this pic in Runner’s World, Wilbur, if I wasn’t before, I am now.

Keep fapping your little wings, Dennis.

    fixed.

  152. da lurker says:

to much…hehehehehe…saw him use his left hand once…must mean hes a lefty commie.
