Duros,
It seems so far that the last 2 big flu scares have been more or less a bust as disasters go. Both the bird flu and the swine flu got a lot of press. Have I just not noticed that before or are these sort of things being hyped more?

No I did not. How big a piece does he own and when did he buy it?

Here's about all you're going to find on it, AO...Snopes...Tamiflu, other than the conspiracy outlets.

This is the kind of thing that if a similar type charge were made about someone in Obama's upper echelon, Oliver would have it tagged under 'Right-Wing Stupidity' too.

From Justin Elliott's reading of author Bradley Graham's book on Donald Rumsfeld over at TPM:

Elliott: "Rumsfeld valued his personal fortune at between $50 to $210 million at the beginning of the Bush Administration. The problem was many of the securities he held were in companies that did business with the DOD, which could put Rumsfeld in violation of government ethics rules.

So Rumsfeld had to divest some of these assets -- a whole lot of them, it turned out. And during that process, which went "slowly," Graham reports, Rumsfeld simply put off canceling any major weapons programs, a move some on his staff apparently expected him to make. Rumsfeld's specific thinking is unclear.

Graham writes: "Several of Rumsfeld's associates saw the secretary's inclination to put off big cuts early on as a direct result of his own financial situation.""

Republican Rumsfeld made a lot of noise about cutting waste in the military budget but apparently that only meant using too few troops to adequately defend themselves in the Republican's Iraq War Lie, it didn't mean cutting unnecessary military projects that Republican Rumsfeld was making money on.

Big unnecessary military projects that Republican Rumsfeld was making money on were okay, but Rumsfeld didn't think it was okay to put enough money into proper planning, providing adequate troops strength, providing adequate body armor, or providing adequate vehicle armor.

It's called "War Profiteering" and Republicans did it on the backs and with the blood of American troops (as well as the American taxpayer).
