Go into a recruitment center and then say something like, ‘I’m Catholic, so I can’t join your religion.’ They will say, ‘We’re not a religion. We provide scientifically proven self-help methods.’

I usually make it a point to not mock anybody’s religion, but since it’s a faith of the rich and highly obnoxious, I feel less bad about it.

Since it isn’t really a religion but a pyramid scheme, you shouldn’t feel bad at all.

For me, the most interesting element of the St Petersburg Times series is the extra videos of Scientology events. Particularly the one of Miscavige announcing L. Ron Hubbards death as if he had shed his earthly body and ascended to the heavens to continue his work. It’s nefarious sounding and you’d have to be pretty gullible to see that video and not think “scam”.

I love Scientology. They sent out questionnaires in my neighborhood a few years back. I love their E-Meters. They sell them on Ebay.

A Russian website published some original writings from Hubbard in his later years. The man was clearly imaginative but also insane. The Xenu story is the best.
