A few months ago he attacked Larry Craig for his sexual escapades. The hypocrisy strikes again.
Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) has acknowledged an extramarital affair with a campaign staffer in a statement released by his office. ‘I deeply regret and am very sorry for my actions,’ said Ensign. He is expected to announce the affair at a press conference at 6:30 pm tonight. The affair, which was with a woman who worked for both Ensign’s re-election campaign and his Battle Born leadership political action committee, began in December 2007 and ended in August 2008.
FLASHBACK: Ensign on defending marriage from gays.
Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., said he would support a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.
…
After evaluating the idea of President Bush’s recommendation of such an amendment Tuesday, Ensign said he believes it is necessary “to protect the institution of marriage in America.”
“In order to defend the institution of marriage, uphold the rights of individual states and maintain the will of the people, I believe we are compelled to amend our country’s Constitution,” Ensign said.
Who will defend the sanctity of marriage from John Ensign?
’)
Okay, everyone is human and flawed. It doesn’t matter what party they are from. But I can’t understand the hypocrisy. The judgmental family values crowd always seems to set themselves up for epic fails . . . just by being human– but hypocritically judging everyone else.
Ahahahahahahahahahhaaaaaaaa! Typical family values.
So, are right wing wives just dead in the sack or something? Did people like Ensign not ever get laid in high school and college?
Well obviously – it was all that time spent in close proximity to Larry Craig, and that hard work defending us from gay marriages, that caused him to destroy his own marriage! Sheesh Oliver, how insensitive can you be? He sacrificed his own happy home to defend us from the horrors of Teh Ghey!
This guy was one of the senators who said Bill Clinton should resign for the same thing. Well, not exactly the same. Monica Lewinsky wasn’t married to a staffer who was in a position to blackmail him.
Why do I think he’s going to tough it out? Is it because…ta-dum… IOKIYAR!
BTW, Josh Marshall says Ensign was a longtime member of “Promise Keepers.” I’m not vouching for that accusation, because it is a slur, but it sure would be delicious desserts if true.
Scratch one more from the GOP 2012 primaries. Looks like McCain/Palin again.
But Robert Byrd’s sixty-year-old hood and Kennedy’s forty-year-old driving goggles and Dave Letterman’s nasty jokes and Bill Clinton’s cigar and… and… and…. oh yeah,
JOHN EDWARDS!!!
Having an affair is a moral failing. Trying to legislate morality for other people while having an affair is rank hypocrisy, and the GOP revels in it.
Who could have predicted…?
Wow; so John Edwards isn’t the only US politician to have an extramarital affair. I wonder when O’Reilly’s head will explode as a result?
“The affair, which was with a woman”
Hey, a non-gay Republican.
Apologzing seems to be an on-going agenda item for members of the GOP.
Poor fellow was right all along about gay marriage, and now he has to sufer for it. Like, we didn’t pass a constitutional amendment against it, and you see? — his marriage went down the tubes just as he said!!!!
Opposite sex, no diapers–how boring.
I’m relatively indifferent about a politicians personal life, but the Republican Party has been prying into personal lives of others for decades, even using the power of government to invade the personal lives of others.
When Republican hypocrites like Republican John Ensign make themselves the moral authority of other people’s personal lives, it makes their hypocrisy particularly offensive.
Republican politicians that have had extra-marital affairs: Republican Newt Gingrich, Republican John McCain, Republican Rudy Giuliani, Republican David Vitter, Republican Larry Craig, Republican Henry Hyde, Republican Ken Calvert (or was he unmarried when he got caught with that prostitute?), Republican Vito Fossella, Republican Randy “Duke” Cunningham, Republican Don Sherwood, and that’s just the short list.
I don’t think Republican Mark Foley was married when he was chasing young boys, and while Republican Ronald Reagan betrayed his first wife and his children I’m not aware that he he had an extra-marital affair before abandoning his wife and children, and I’m not sure Republican Jim Gibbons extra-marital affair with a Playboy model has been fully substantiated, and what does one say about Republican Pete Sessions who was fundraising at a strip club, then there are the lesser known Republicans like Republican Ted Klaudt who doesn’t appear to have been married when he was charged with rape, and I don’t know what the marital status of Republican Bob Allen was when he offered $20 to an undercover cop for sx.
The Republican Party is NOT the family values party.
The Republican Party is the HYPOCRITE PARTY where the Republican’s moralizing rules are never for themselves, only for other people.
Porlock Junior:
Holy hilarious Batman!
John Ensign is a veterinarian. Is “Neuter and Spay the Only Way”?

Opposite sex, no diapers–how boring.
Not even ONE wetsuit. *yawn*
Republicans are to family values what Democrats are to taxes.
Right wing corporatist “Adam Herman’s” twisted ideas leave him unable to even get his analogy straight.
The Republican Hypocrite Party pretends to be the Party of family values even while Republican leaders are fooling around on their spouses just as the Republican Debtor Party is singularly responsible for America’s overwhelming debt.
As needs to be said a million times:
Republican President Reagan more than DOUBLED the US debt.
Republican President Reagan and Republican President Bush 1 more than QUADRUPLED the US debt.
Republican President Bush 2 more than doubled the US debt again once all of his debtor bills are added up.
All three of the last Republican Presidents vastly expanded government spending and “outlays” (expenditures).
Republicans are sleazy hypocrites just as Republicans are reckless debtors.
And Democrats support higher taxes on everyone but themselves. I dare say that one can name far more Democratic tax evaders than Republican sex offenders.
Obama just lowered your taxes Adam Herman, unless you make more than 250K.
And that’s an accomplishment you are proud of? That the Republican Party’s sx offenders list is less than some other random list of people?
Obama CUT taxes on 90% of Americans and you’re against that, “Adam Herman”?
But at least you can be proud that your Republican Party has fewer sx offenders than other random lists of people, “Adam”.
(My point being, the majority of Americans make less than 250K/year.)
Obama raises projected spending to vastly unprecedented levels for the next 10 years and lowers taxes for 95% of the people and you believe that pattern is sustainable?
Right winger “Amused Observer” cites an uncertain future to discount the factual reality of the Republican’s irresponsibly indebting America over the past three Republican Presidents.
What’s clear about the last 30 years is that Republicans fantasy economic theories are unsustainable.
