The Evil Eye, And Other Right Wing Stupidity

8:41 pm EST June 30th, 2009 | News | 153 Comments

Dear Wingnuts,

How it should work is this: You present ideas, and we present ideas, and the American people decide – as they have in the past – which bunch of ideas they want to go with. Sometimes they pick your ideas, sometimes they pick ours. While I clearly think ours are better, we don’t have all the answers. We’ve prospered over the last 200+ years on that exchange of ideas. But on occasion (1964, 2008) you guys lose so badly that you go nutso. When we get beaten we tend to beat up on ourselves, wondering why America doesn’t like us. When you guys lose we get stories about hidden communism in flouridated water or serious sounding analysis about the President giving people the evil eye.

That is the hallmark of crazy, and while it helps my side of the fight in the short term, in the long term its just not a good thing to have one party be the ruling party of sanity while the other is presenting the evil eye as a serious policy position.

Love,
Oliver

3:16 pm EST June 30th, 2009 | News | 50 Comments

This isn’t news to anyone that isn’t Norm Coleman, but it’s good to have it in the record. Again.

The Minnesota Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered that Democrat Al Franken be certified as the winner of the state’s long-running Senate race, paving the way for a resolution in the seven-month fight over the seat.

Now Tim Pawlenty must certify Senator Franken.

UPDATE: Finally, Norm Coleman has conceded.

Expect more of this for the next 4-8 years. Right wing group backed by oil/big business makes attack on the president, Fox amplifies it, like its an actual thing. As they showed when they cheerleaded the nation into war, facts and consequences simply don’t matter to them.-

Discussing the 5-4 Supreme Court decision today in the firefighter case, conservatives somehow made 5 become 9. They’re still pretty bad at math.

Did I Miss Something

12:53 pm EST June 29th, 2009 | News | 2 Comments

I concede that I only half paid attention to the news for the last 4 days, I was in San Angelo, TX visiting my friend and his family, but in all the brouhaha over the cap and trade bill that passed the House, I notice it hasn’t passed the senate yet. So, what’s the point? Time and again I’ve seen where the conservative Dems in the senate vote out the most progressive parts of these bills and end up with weak half-measures designed to stop Rush Limbaugh from saying mean things about them.

How is this one any different?
