Comparing Rush Limbaugh To Jesus?

Redstate’s Erick Erickson just did that. Yes, he did. No really, he did.

  1. Dennis says:

Comparing Barack Obama to Jesus Christ?

Jesus Christ was a community organizer. Pontius Pilate was a governor.

Democrats did just that. Yes, they did. No really, they did.

  2. durablend says:

    Shorter Dennis:

    “Look! Up there! A bird!”

  3. Umm… no they didn’t. People said that line as a response to Sarah Palin mocking community organizers. The majority of people making Obama/Jesus analogies are right-wingers who do it sarcastically.

Example: if someone said your mom was a whore, and I said “well so was Mary Magdalene,” I’m not actually comparing your mom to Mary Magdalene; I’m just defending the insult levied against her. You’re welcome.

Second example: if someone said “Sarah Palin was a fucking idiot for mocking community organizers” and I said, “well so is Eric Erickson for saying Limbaugh is like Jesus,” we’d both be right. That’s not really an example, I just felt like saying it.

  5. Dennis says:

“well so is Eric Erickson for saying Limbaugh is like Jesus,” we’d both be right. August J Pollack

Eric Erickson didn’t say Limbaugh was like Jesus. The comparisons to Jesus are far greater and more pronounced in that popular line about community organizers than Erickson’s use of a biblical story is in comparing Limbaugh to Jesus.

The connection in Erickson’s case is so weak that both Ben Smith at Politico and Oliver here both had to pose it as a question. But you accept is as fact and repeat it as such.

  6. bartkid says:

I believe somebody’s confusing South Park with the Good Book again.
Y’know the episode with Cartman on the cross.

  7. SpiderJ says:

The connection in Erickson’s case is weak? He spends paragraphs discussing Peter’s denial of Christ as a direct analogue for any Republican who denies Rush.

There are ways to say “I stand by my friends, right or wrong” without bring up Peter and Jesus.

  8. Dennis says:

There are ways to say “I stand by my friends, right or wrong” without bring up Peter and Jesus. SpideyJ

There are also ways to laud the efforts of community organizing without referencing Jesus, SpiderJ, but Obama’s supporters were quick to make that comparison and repeat it often so that the connection and the comparison was made loud and clear.

Pollack makes the case that there was no comparison to Christ in the community organizing saying, which is false. He also said that Erickson said Limbaugh was like Jesus, which is also false.

  9. Except, he did. I like how you guys try to spin things people can look at with their own two eyes though.

  10. Duros62 says:

and I said “well so was Mary Magdalene,”

Except she wasn’t. That was just a rumor started by the jealous Paul.

    But anyway…

  11. The comparisons to Jesus are far greater and more pronounced in that popular line about community organizers

“Greater and more profound?” You quoted it in its entirety.

Erickson’s use of a biblical story

More commonly referred to as a parable. Yep, totally insignificant. You people will argue over anything, won’t you?

  12. Quaker in a Basement says:

OK, OK, wingnuts. Have it your way. Erick didn’t directly compare Rush to Jesus. He compared the betrayal of Rush to the betrayal of Jesus.

    Big difference.

  13. jr says:

Erick is the John the Baptist of Dominican Sex Tours

  14. Dennis says:

Yep, totally insignificant. You people will argue over anything, won’t you? Pollack

You people? Spoken like a true liberal. I just made the point that Democrats were never shy about making comparisons of Obama to Jesus, you’re the one who chose to argue about it by straining to make the silly assertion that that saying was not a comparison, when it clearly was. No one here has ever expressed embarrassment or amazement at that particular comparison, used by many on the left, yet you try to make hay out of a stretch of a comparison by some blogger of Limbaugh and others to a story in the bible.

If one is more apt than the other, then make the case if you want to be consistent. But you deny it was even a comparison in one case, and a solid comparison in the other. That’s pretty much how lefties frequently counter when their hypocrisies are pointed out to them.

  15. Duros62 says:

You people? Spoken like a true liberal.

    Outrage troll is outraged.

  16. Dennis says:

    “Outrage troll is outraged.” –Duros

I never get outraged at liberal hypocrisy, Duros.

Otherwise I’d be outraged all the time. I leave that to you guys. You people.

  17. SpiderJ says:

You people? Spoken like a true liberal.

Damn. Irony meter broke under the strain.

  18. Duros62 says:

Now, to be fair, I don’t care for the “you people” thing either. Puts a hair across my ass almost instantly. But I really don’t think August was making a racist epithet, do you?

“You People” as in Conservatives who can’t not argue about anything a liberal says.

Like I always say, you can lead a con to water, but you can’t get him to admit it’s water.

  19. PD100 says:

I’ve looked through the Bible quite often, trying to find the parts where Jesus demands his flock to act like total assholes and drive potential believers from the faith with their nonsensical bullshit, indulging in substance abuse while denouncing others who participate in the same behavior as criminals.
    Can’t find that part. Anyone?

  20. Duros62 says:

Don’t forget the down-low homosexual conduct while condemning that of others.

  21. You people? Spoken like a true liberal.

    Hahahaha oh wow.

  22. Right wing militant extremist Erick Erickson, who is a little insane but still one of the most prominent and popular right wing bloggers, not only clearly compared Rush Limbaugh to Jesus Christ but also Dick Cheney and Mark Levin to Jesus:

“Peter, under pressure and fear, denied Christ not just once, but three times. Peter, though, feared death. The strain on Peter was great. The rest of us, though, typically fear the opinions of others.”

“The incidents of late with Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Dick Cheney, and others is why I raise this.

Peter denied Christ three times. Our goal should be to not deny Christ and also to not deny the valuable members of our own movement.”

Right winger Erick Erickson is clearly and unmistakably saying that to reject right wing “fellow travelers” Limbaugh, Levin, and Cheney is like rejecting Jesus Christ.

It’s a classic right wing attempt to manipulate Christians into worshiping thugs, predators, and war criminals.

And here is right wing troll “Dennis” dutifully following orders to protect ‘fellow traveler’ and lunatic cultist Erick Erickson from his own foul words.

And in order to deny the clearly worded essay by right wing ‘fellow traveler’ Erick Erickson, right winger “Dennis” even has to make up words to put in the mouths of his adversaries.

Right wingers have a special talent at rewriting history.

Right wingers ignore and even deny clear words and clear evidence that contradict their false assertions.

And right wingers invent false assertions to put into the mouths of their opponents.

It would be more appropriate to compare right wing thugs, predators, and war criminals like Limbaugh, Levin, and Cheney to Serpents.

  23. Dennis says:

You’re a nutcase, News Reference. Beyond any shadow of a doubt.

I don’t give a rat’s ass about Eric Erickson, what he says, or his blog. I just wonder why this is even something to write about with liberals when I’ve never read one liberal ever get bent out of shape in the slightest at the many past comparisons by Obama supporters of him to Jesus.

Did you ever have anything to say about the community organizer comparison to Jesus Christ? Did it upset you one tenth as much as what you pretend to be about Erickson’s comment? If you shrug at one and at act upset at another it’s nothing short of blatant hypocrisy, and I suspect that is the case with you.

  24. “Dennis”, your a classic right wing deceiver.

“Dennis”: “I don’t give a rat’s ass about Eric Erickson, what he says, or his blog.”

And yet you are here repeatedly defending Erick Erickson and even distorting what he clearly wrote to defend him.

“Dennis”: “I just wonder why this is even something to write about”

Because Erick Erickson is often cited as one of the most popular right wing bloggers out there and he’s said something both absurd and offensive by comparing right wing thugs, predators, and war crimes advocates Limbaugh, Levin, and Cheney to Jesus Christ.

“Dennis”: “the many past comparisons by Obama supporters of him to Jesus.”

Cite five examples. Can you even cite ONE example?

It was the REPUBLICANS that repeatedly Obama to “the one” and to Moses and tried to deride him as a messianic figure.

And yet it was REPUBLICANS and right wingers like yourself that repeatedly invented that comparison.

“Did you ever have anything to say about the community organizer comparison to Jesus Christ?”

Neither Obama nor his inner circle ever made that comparison.

Those that mockingly made that comparison were mocking people like you, “Denis”, and the incompetent Republican Vice President Sarah Palin.

Every church leader in the country is a “community organizer”.

Many of those church leaders, especially Christian evangelical church leaders, are trying to get their church members to become “community organizers” to spread the word of Christ.

But to right wingers and Republicans, church leaders and their faithful flocks are political tools to be used for them and against their opponents.

And for right wing serpents like Erick Erickson to compare right wing thugs, predators, and war criminals like Limbaugh, Levin, and Cheney to Jesus Christ is incredibly offensive.

  25. [corrected]

“Dennis”, you are a classic right wing deceiver.

It was the REPUBLICANS that repeatedly referred to Obama as “the one” and to Moses and tried to deride him as a messianic figure.

  26. Dennis says:

Here, News Ref, Daily Kos: Jesus Christ was a community organizer.

Daily Kos comparing Obama to Jesus Christ directly, or Red State indirectly, as you claim, comparing Limbaugh, Cheney, Levin, and others to Jesus Christ.

The one Jesus comparison is fine and dandy with you because ‘It wasn’t him or his inner circle”, or something. But the other is highly offensive because “he is often cited as one of the most popular right wing bloggers out there”.

Some kind of moral equivalence you got going there, sport.

Consider your own words before you go around accusing others of distorting things.

    News Idiot.

  27. Repack Rider says:

Daily Kos comparing Obama to Jesus Christ directly

I cplicked the link, and of course you are either lying or merely wrong. “Daily Kos” did not “compare” Obaqma to Jesus. One of the over 200,000 SUBSCRIBERS posted a diary, as is his/her right, with the title, “Jesus Christ was a community organizer.”

It doesn’t compare Obama to Christ. It just names a lot of famous people who fit the description of “community organizer,” including but not limited to Jesus. The purpose of the diary is not to compare Obama to Jesus, but to point out that being called a “community organizer” was to be identified with the likes of Jesus, Gandhi, Martin Luther King and others.

Briefly then, the diarist (not “DailyKos”) is pointing out that while Republicans believe that they are insulting Obama by calling him a “community organizer,” THEY are in fact comparing him to Jesus.

And that is exactly what you are accusing LIBERALS of doing! Does it get any more ironic, when the link you provide says exactly the opposite of what you claim it says?

  28. Jaim says:

    Shorter Dennis: WAH-WAH-WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

  29. Mylegacy says:

Personally, I have no trouble comparing Rush to Jesus. Two seriously deluded guys.

  30. Dennis says:

    Repack Rider-

Here’s Markos Moulitsos repeating the meme.

    Response
    by kos
Thu Sep 04, 2008 at 02:15:35 PM PDT

So apparently Republicans hate community organizers. A reader sends me a pithy response:

Jesus was a community organizer and Pontius Pilate was a governor.

Pretty sure Daily Kos is where the saying took on life. And I’m pretty sure most Christians don’t consider Jesus Christ’s role was as a community organizer. The point is, this meme was repeated by a lot of Democrats, and I don’t recall anyone here being upset about the comparison of Obama to Jesus Christ- not by Oliver, News Reference, you, August J Pollack, or anyone here now feigning indignation over Erickson’s comments. I’m saying that’s hypocrisy, and it is.

  31. Repack Rider says:

Dennis, when Republicans say that Obama was “just a community organizer,” THEY are the ones comparing him to Jesus, who as we all know, originated the idea in our culture of the masses having rights in the face of overwhelming authority. Read the Sermon on The Mount.

I guess it just pisses you off when liberals point that out to you. Do you really think Jesus would be a Republican, torture people and all that stuff? He said it would be tough for a rich man to get into heaven. Whatever did He mean?

I ask not what Jesus would do, but what would Scooby Doo?

  32. Dennis says:

You’re wrong about that pissing me off, Repack. I’m asking you why Erickson’s comments are so offensive to you, but the saying bandied about by several prominent Democrats about Obama and Jesus both being community organizers doesn’t. Why one deserves special rebuke and amazement, but the other one deserves your hardiest defense, and that somehow you are being consistent.

  33. I wonder how Dennis types when he’s covering his ears going DADADADADADADADADADADA at everyone’s responses to him

  34. Dennis says:

I wonder how Dennis types when he’s covering his ears going DADADADADADADADADADADA at everyone’s responses to him. AJ Pollack

Funny, Pollack, I had the distinct impression that’s what all the responses were to me. No one has reconciled how they aren’t being blatant hypocrites in this case.

  35. Jaim says:

Hey Dennis, shouldn’t you be posting hourly about how great Obama has been for the economy now that the Dow is at 8,400?

  36. I had the distinct impression that’s what all the responses were to me

Yes, that’s what we’re all laughing about.

  37. Dennis says:

Hey Dennis, shouldn’t you be posting hourly about how great Obama has been for the economy now that the Dow is at 8,400? Jaim

Do you think the economy is in great shape, Jaim?

I can never understand why after spending all day teaching kindergartners that you choose act like one on a blog.

  38. Jaim says:

“you choose act like one on a blog”

Funny. They have better English language skills than you do.

  39. Dennis says:

Ok, you choose to act like one on a blog. Not an English mistake, but a typing one.

Your knowing that already is further childish behavior from you.

You’re still a kid, Jaim. Maybe you should heed the words of your savior when he quoted scripture at his inaugural address and told you to put away childish things.

  40. Jaim says:

8,400 Dennis. Nice of you to not be a hypocrite or anything.

  41. Dennis says:

We’re up about 100 points from the opening level on the morning of Obama’s inauguration, Jaim. If you want to cheer about that, be my guest. The fact that I’m not isn’t hypocritical.

  42. Crusty Dem says:

The fact that you’re not is because you’re a troll who loves to shout “XXX means Obama is horrible”. When XXX changes and looks good, it is in no way indicative of performance. That’s Troll 101.

What’s most amusing about Erick’s screed, besides the bizarro new testament stuff, is his insistence that horrible behavior and extreme wingnutiness is completely ok and forgivable, but any hint of liberalism requires excommunication. Fine with me, good luck with your purges, just make sure to turn off the light when you’re done.

  43. Dennis says:

XXX does not look good right now, Crusty. I’m being quite consistent. That seems hard for you and Jaim to understand. Do you think things are good? I’ve asked Jaim and he refuses to answer.

  44. ed says:

Remember when Jesus made fun of people with Parkinson’s Disease? That was awesome!

  45. Dennis says:

Remember how Jesus made fun of the mentally challenged people who compete in the Special Olympics? That was awesome, wasn’t it, Mister ed?

  46. Duros62 says:

Do you think things are good? I’ve asked Jaim and he refuses to answer.

Things are better than they were on January 19. Just admit it, Denny, it’ll be ok.

  47. Dennis says:

    How so, Duros?

  48. Duros62 says:

    Oh, don’t be coy.

  49. So right winger “Dennis” still can’t find any citations or links that actually say what he’s falsely saying the left is saying.

Like the average right winger, “Dennis” just makes stuff up.

Right winger “Dennis” is too dim to realize that his silly lies don’t stand up by their own weight let alone under the scrutiny of fact checkers.

Right wing dittohead “Dennis” regurgitates lies without realizing he just makes the right wing look dishonest at worst and even at best, too dim to be in charge of anything let alone my country.

Hey “Dennis”, when are you and your special friend Erick Erickson and your Serpent leaders Rush Limbaugh and Dick Cheney going to move to Dubai?

Perhaps ya’all can even invite the Republican Messiah Moon!

  50. ed says:

Remember how Jesus made fun of the mentally challenged people who compete in the Special Olympics?

[False] Equivalence! It’s what’s for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in DennisLand.

  51. Crusty Dem says:

Yes, Dennis, you’re absolutely consistent. I remember all the times you railed about the horrors of George W Bush mishandling the economy causing the stock market to plummet. Or was it all the great fear of what the evil socialist Obama would do when he inevitably became president that caused the market to drop last summer?

  52. Dennis says:

So right winger “Dennis” still can’t find any citations or links that actually say what he’s falsely saying the left is saying. News Ref

I’ve said repeatedly that Democrats and Obama supporters made a direct comparison to Jesus when they repeated verbatim the saying about his community organizer involvement. Do you want links to this or something, when you are obsessed with this sort of thing? I have yet to hear an explanation from you of why that comparison to Jesus is acceptable to you and why Ericson’s citation of a parable about denying someone you might otherwise agree with on principle is somehow so much more wrong.

I have outlined how and why you are a hypocrite, unless last summer you denounced the community organizer comparison to Jesus- you refuse to address that-, and you only counter with ad hominems that you don’t back up, News Reference. Put up, shut up, or go home, take your pick.

  53. ed says:

So, still no citations for News Reference from Dennis, just a substance-free rant. Anyone surprised?

  54. Jaim says:

    “Shorter Dennis: WAH-WAH-WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!”

  55. Duros62 says:

I’ve said repeatedly that Democrats and Obama supporters made a direct comparison to Jesus when they repeated verbatim the saying about his community organizer involvement.

    Except they didn’t.

  56. Dennis says:

    “Shorter Dennis: WAH-WAH-WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!” Jaim

Shorter Jaim: “I’m still a kid!!!!”

  57. Dennis says:

    Except they didn’t. Duros

“Jesus Christ was a community organizer”.

Except they did directly compare, Duros. If that is not a comparison to Jesus Christ, then neither is Erickson’s to Limbaugh.

Unless you’d like to attempt to reconcile your inconsistency, since specifics seem to escape you on this blog.

  58. Right winger “Dennis”: “I’ve said repeatedly…”

    Classic right wing nonsense!-)

Right wingers only power is Marketing. Repetition.

Right wingers entire argument, the essence of their illogic is: “I’ve said repeatedly…”

    Say a thing often enough….

… still doesn’t make it true.

But the right wing know that sometimes it’s good enough to con 50% +1 and so they continue to play their con artist games (see: Erickson, Limbaugh, Cheney, et al).

“Dennis” pulls the classic right wing nonsense of demanding that their false assertion be replied to.

Some “Dems” play along, effectively helping the right wing’s talking points.

    But.

It mucks up right winger’s games when you refuse to play along and call them on their false assertions.

And then when you don’t play their con artist games the right wing shows who they really are when they pull out the thug card: “shut up, or go home”, exclaims right winger “Dennis” when his lies are repudiated and he doesn’t get his way.

Classic right wing nonsense!-) Alternately childish and thuggish.

Republican Newt Gingrich, Tantrum Throwing Cry Baby.

  59. Dennis says:

News Idiot, you take great pains to escape from answering how you aren’t a huge hypocrite.

    Classic left-wing nonsense.

  60. Duros62 says:

Unless you’d like to attempt to reconcile your inconsistency, since specifics seem to escape you on this blog.

MY inconsistency? I don’t give a shit one way or the other. You keep saying I should be outraged at Democrats for comparing Obama to Jesus, just as I should be outraged at Erickson for comparing Limbaugh to Jesus.

    A) Comparing limbaugh to Jesus is just beyond the st00pid.
    B) Why should I be outraged either way?
    C) Bite me.

  61. Duros62 says:

    Except they didn’t. Duros

“Jesus Christ was a community organizer”.

Except they did directly compare, Duros.

That’s one. Hardly counts as a “they”, Dennis.

  62. Typical Republican Car Dealer says:

    Oh, but it does!

  63. Infantile right wing blogger “Dennis” demands that his false assertions be responded to because he made his false assertions “repeatedly”.

When “Dennis” doesn’t get his way he pulls the standard right wing thug card, exclaiming “shut up, or go home”!

Or what ? “Dennis”? You’ll stamp your feet and hold your breath?

    You’ll cry?

Or are you a violent right wing nut?

    Be very explicit.
